The only way Edwina could get her husband to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer was by starting a podcast about it! This week, we're sinking our teeth into Doublemeat Palace—a fast-food fever dream that's widely regarded as one of the worst episodes of the series... and yet, somehow, it's got its die-hard defenders. Love it or loathe it, we're serving up the hot takes with a side of mystery meat. Follow us on: TikTok Instagram YouTube Threads Bluesky Merch Store https://linktr.ee/Nerd_Subculture

Grab your abomination hat and terrible uniform and get ready to clock into a TERRIBLY long shift at the Doublemeat Palace! This week Buffy joins the workforce again, and is faced with MORE than just the monotony of employment when she finds something under the meat grinder- A FUCKING FINGER! She behaves appropriately and has a menty-b (there Buffy.. have a menty-b!) but Buffy is determined to save her coworkers from MORE than ear grease plugs. In other news, Willow AND Anya both get visits from people from their past who attempt to bring back old habits. Rewatch, listen and laugh as we talk about trash fucking, undesirable color pallets, and we worship at the altar of she who is called Halfrek.And don't forget to follow us on Instagram at @the_rewatcher for special bonus content!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

But what is the chicken made of? {morepodcasting on IG}
Buffy finally decides to pull herself up by her bootstraps via a minimum wage job at a fast-food restaurant. Feeling almost as soulless as the vampire she's sleeping with, Buffy battles grease, her tyrannical manager, and the ongoing gaslighting of her Scooby pals. Something is wrong at the Doublemeat Palace, and she's going to stop it. Hear us discuss… Technical difficulties made us feel like we were living the Doublemeat Experience too Buffy's actually so smart and perceptive! We hope she's using protection (gloves and hairnets, of course) The true monster is, once again, corporate America Did this show predict plant-based burgers? Trigger warnings Body horror, severed appendages
She's everything. He's just Riley. Join us this week as we kick Buffy while she's down with a visit from her ex and his absolutely perfect wife (who we love despite ourselves). In Doublemeat Palace (S6 E12 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Buffy gets a job and Willow struggles when Amy gives her magic as a gift. Along with the recap, this podcast episode focuses on: (1) how to create a fair fight between a villain and a superstrong protagonist; (2) layered dialogue (like Hallie's and Anya's) that reads differently each time you hear it; (3) when it's okay for someone else to save your hero; (4) writing a subplot with strong, clear plot turns; and (5) why realism matters most when you're writing fantasy or humor. Gilmore Girls S6 E15 "A Vineyard Valentine"/Buffy S6 E15 "As You Were"Luke & Lorelai and Xander & Anya are beyond stressed about their upcoming weddings, so both pitch the idea of eloping. Surprise! Mitchum and Riley drop by unexpectedly, despite an overwhelming lack of demand. Luke reminds Lorelai he loves her, which is maybe news to Lorelai, while Spike reminds Buffy he loves her upon request. Not sure what's more confusing, the hours of operation at the Doublemeat Palace or what you're supposed to do on Martha's Vineyard after 9:30pm. Both episodes feature a very out-of-place salad. Buffy S6 E12 "Doublemeat Palace"/Gilmore Girls S6 E12 "Just Like Gwen and Gavin"Despite grease swooshing around just everywhere, Buffy goes to work flipping burgers, and April gets busy with some salt shakers. Buffy and Taylor call emergency meetings in the middle of the night, making it seem as if both Doublemeat Palace and the state of Maine exist outside of normal time. Spike and Logan try to win over their love interests with money. Willow and Zack still aren't doing great after their recent bad decision-sprees, and ultimately confront their nemeses. It's a meat process. Noelle and Lani can't unsee what they've suddenly seen while watching Doublemeat Palace (S6.12).
Buffy believes that the local fast food chain uses people in its burgers. Turns out they don't even use meat. A weird worm comes out of an old lady's head. Willow turns a pencil to rubber.Support the show (https://shop.spreadshirt.com/JandLWatches/)
Buffy has brand spanking new job! And while she's dealing with that slow death, everyone else has some demons to contend with.
For my 50th birthday (ugh), my gift to you is the 50th episode (egads) of this podcast, which will focus on the 50th worst episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (I made that last part up...it’s probably higher on most “Worst Of” lists. It’s a meat process.) Joining me this time is my good friend and frequent collaborator, first-time guest Eric Sipple. Together we share the DoubleMeat Medley that is the forgettable patty of 611, “Gone” above the mid-bun, and the processed trauma of 613, “Dead Things” below the mid-bun. But it’s really that bland, stale mid-bun of 612, “Doublemeat Palace” that gives us indigestion. Am I straining the metaphor here? Well, it IS Season Six, so when in Rome... Next: Jessica Hautsch is back with us to take a look at 614, “Older and Far Away,” 615, “As You Were,” and 616, “Hell’s Bells.” THE BREAKDOWN Run Time: 01:23:05 00:00:55 - Intro / Guest 00:08:30 - Main Topic 01:18:48 - Outro / Next THE LIBRARY Broken Magic, by Eric Sipple The Deli Counter of Justice, by Paul Smith, Eric Sipple, Arlo Wiley THE LINKS Gobbledygeek Podcast - website - iTunes The Avatar Returns Podcast - website - iTunes THE MUSIC “Conversations (feat. James Rocha, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Fresno State and co-author, along with his wife Dr. Mona Rocha, of Joss Whedon, Anarchist? A Unified Theory of the Films and Television Series, returns to help ease us into the poor decision making of the Scooby Gang, and the heavy-handed “metaphor” application of the writers headed into the darker half of the darkest season. In episode 608, “Tabula Rasa,” James does his best to get into the philosophy of it all, while I just question if Buffy has jumped the shark. In 609, “Smashed,” we talk about Willow’s reasons for finally de-ratting Amy; the debate over Spike’s reasons for trying to bite the blonde in the alley is rehashed; and Buffy (the “good” Slayer) has now slept with twice as many named characters as Faith (the “bad” Slayer). And 610, “Wrecked” reminds us how important Merrie Melodies cartoons are; the so-called subtext becomes painful, bludgeoning text hammered directly into our innocent, trusting faces; and my oft-referenced issues with one particular writer are made just a little more clear. For better or worse. Next: co-host of The Avatar Returns podcast, co-author of The Deli Counter of Justice, my friend Eric Sipple joins the conversation for the first time to discuss episodes 611, “Gone,” 612, “Doublemeat Palace,” and 613, “Dead Things.” THE BREAKDOWN Run Time: 01:54:55 00:00:55 - Intro / Guest 00:03:26 - Main Topic 01:51:15 - Outro / Next THE LIBRARY Joss Whedon, Anarchist? This week Buffy has her greatest challenge yet...working in fast food. But is everything as it seems? Are the burgers made of people?? Listen to find out!
Is “Doublemeat Palace” a terrible episode of TV? Or is it just a weird episode of Buffy? Why is the tone so strange? Why is the pacing so slow? It’s got a horror movie vibe but something just doesn’t work about it for us. In “Provider,” Angel’s quest for money scatters the team and leads to a risky situation for Fred.
Chelsea and Bob discuss their admiration for a not so loved episode as well as the realities of working in fast food
So this time we recorded in the car still, but without the rain. That variable turned out to be insignificant, as we still sound like shit. Sorry Y'all, we're really trying to find a way to make this work. Thanks for sticking by us.Also these episodes feel like a return to season 1- the heaviness and malaise is gone briefly, which makes these episodes hard to get into. Not bad, just . . . filler.
Michaela and David have a better time than expected with "Doublemeat Palace". Yup, it's the episode that's widely regarded as the absolute worst episode of BtVS and yet we're having fun. The episode has a far different tone, but manages to still have terrible fashion choices all around. Can we keep her? -Xander still wants to marry Riley. It’s adorable. -Wedding bells are ringing, or will they? -What did we think about Spike being the Doctor? -“OMG he’s so in love with her it’s obnoxious.” -BUFFY CALLS SPIKE WILLIAM. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Angel season 3, episode 15, “Loyalty”: -No Mitch, Angelus is not here. -Are we seeing things from Wes’ paranoia? -Conner’s safety is our number one priority, but what is Holtz’s MO? -Is this in character for Wes? -Daddy Angel is the best Angel. -What would Buffy think of this Angel? -Can someone get me a timeline? -The Loa, aka the giant hamburger, plays into Wes’ paranoia -Is Conner actually going to be eaten? -Gunn and Fred — cute or not? -We miss you, Cordy! -Hockey dad, love it. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Brittany’s Brainstorms/Kristen’s Kontemplations: –Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 6, episode 16, “Hell’s Bells” –Angel season 3, episode 16, “Sleep Tight” Contact us! In "Gone", Buffy is overwhelmed with raising a teenager, furnishing Willow's recovery, and managing her own indiscretions with Spike. After she fails to pass muster with Child Services, Buffy chops off the golden locks Spike loves so much. A chance run-in with the Trio outside the hair salon triggers them to shoot her with their new invisibility ray. While the Scoobies investigate how to re-visible her, Buffy enjoys a brief freedom from consequences. We discuss Dawn's level 10 whining, and what we'd do with the power of invisibility. Buffy solves her income dilemma with a job at the "Doublemeat Palace". High turnover. Employees disappearing. The smell. The secret ingredient. Manny. Is this a typical fast food job or is something nefarious afoot? When Buffy finds a finger in the meat grinder, she enlists the Scoobies to investigate what's really in the Doublemeat Medley. Meanwhile, Amy doses Willow with unwanted magic. Kristen and Mike discuss the adversities of working as a corporate cog, and suggest ways to improve Wig Lady's costume. PLUS! Your food-service horror stories.

Superfans: Karen and Maj Newbies: Ariana and Kristen Fun Facts: Maj finally saw Spider-Man: Homecoming, Kristen tells another tale of woe involving her car, Ariana is very happy about getting her book signed by John Lewis at SDCC, and Karen is super grateful to have an awesome roommate who will spend hours hunting down exclusive Funkos for her online. Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 6, episode 12, "Doublemeat Palace": -Synopsis -There is mad love and mad hate for this episode. -Sarah Michele Gellar was in Burger King commercials as a kid. -The burgers are not made of people, they're made of VEGETABLES! *GASP* Beef fat is the secret ingredient. -Sex in the alley sounds, well sexy, but it didn't look it at all. -What is going on with Buffy and Spike here? -Was Helfrich right in her understanding of the Xander/Anya relationship? -Xander constantly correcting Anya is usually played for laughs, but is it at least a little problematic? -It was the old lady! Didn't see that one coming. -Amy 'gifts' Willow some magic for her birthday. Was it retaliation or an actual 'gift'? -Willow is working hard to overcome her addiction, and we just hope the show sticks through this to the end. -Maj shares the German and French titles for this episode. -Xander and Dawn discuss Buffy's job prospects for the future. -Buffy really should be getting paid by the Watcher's Council and Willow should be helping pay the bills if she's gonna live there. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Angel season 3, episode 12, "Provider": -Synopsis -Oh how the tables have turned! Angel is now the financially concerned one, while Cordy is mission-focused. -Cordy, you can't take a baby to a beheading. -Buffy and Angel both were money-themed episodes, and this isn't the first time the themes have lined up with these shows. -The Holtz scenes definitely seem like filler, and we find them mostly annoying. -Jeffrey Dean Morgan makes a clean shaven appearance. -Fan theory is that Jack and Sam's relationship was a little more than best friends. -Who would you rather see with Fred: Wesley, Gunn (or both)? -No sign of Cordy's demon side... yet. -German/French titles -Connor has a dedicated little family around him with Aunt Cordy, Uncle Wes, Uncle Gunn, and Aunt Fred. -Favorite Scenes -Favorite Lines Kristen's Kontemplations/Ariana's Answers: -Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 6, episode 13, “Dead Things” -Angel season 3, episode 13, “Waiting in the Wings” Contact us! We rebel against the haters by not hating Doublemeat Palace! WE HAVE REASONS! Amanda likes the horror style, Andrea likes that Buffy's trying to make positive steps in her life. The ladies also get into a couple tangents about minimum-wage jobs, and the stigma around them. And if you have kids listening to the podcast, be warned Andrea(!) makes up a weird, not-for-kids tagline for this episode. ALSO! Please be warned! There are spoilers for 'Soylent Green' in this podcast, Amanda insisted this warning be included, despite Andrea believing the movie coming out in 1973 means the statute for spoilers has expired. Alli and Mary hit our local bar before recording today's discussion of Buffy's Gone and Doublemeat Palace, where Alli continues her defense of oft-hated episodes like DMP and Beer Bad. At least we're not stuck in a tedious pit of despair like last week? It's tough to bring the humor when the show is determined to bring you down, but that's what the beer is for. Cheers!
In this episode, Lani gives her response to Doublemeat Palace (S6.12), including love for Jane Espenson, Kali Rocha and Kirsten Nelson!
