Anita Harwood needs our help finding a man named Marty who helped her on that fateful day of September 11th, 2001. This is one woman's good journey, traveling from the UK to the United States to attend a Michael Jackson concert, only to find herself in the middle of New York City on the morning when everything changed. It's also the story of kindness, specifically the kindness of one stranger who said yes when 18 year old Anita and her best friend needed it most. We found this story on Upworthy's Instagram page and reached out to Anita to see if she might want to come on World Gone Good, tell her story, and see if you, our good audience, might be able to help out in finding the missing Marty. If 9/11 taught us anything, it is this: good or bad, we are all in this together. Give a listen to Anita to see if you might be the person who helps her locate this stranger to give him the hug and thank you she's been waiting over 24 years to give him. _____________________________ Steve is busy at work on the third book in his cozy mystery series, THE DOG WALKING DETECTIVES. On this week's episode, I highlight the second word in the title of my podcast: UPLIFT. Even in the midst of hatred, violence and negativity, we can focus our attention on what lifts us up and how we might lift up others. I reference Hafiz' poem about Joy, particularly the line that says “we were created to smile, to love, to be lifted up and lift others up”. May we honor what we were created for - let yourself be lifted up and enjoy lifting up those around you. Let the kindness, thoughtfulness, and gratitude naturally flow with ease. Happy lifting! Enjoy the podcast!

The Uplift app is here! Try it free for 30 days What if I told you that overthinking isn't proof of brilliance—it's fear in a fancy outfit? It looks productive. It feels responsible. But let's be honest—it's just mental busywork dressed up like wisdom. Overthinking is like binge-watching the same three episodes of worry on repeat, hoping the plot twist will finally reveal itself. Here's the truth, friend: you don't need more time to think. You need a fresh approach to move forward. Because after a couple of hours, your brain turns into a GPS stuck in “recalculating”—lots of noise, zero progress. But today? We're done with that. No more spiraling. No more second-guessing. No more talking yourself out of the very thing God keeps nudging you toward. This is your permission slip to stop overanalyzing and start obeying. In the week leading up to this Sunday, Pastor Chris wrote the congregation asking if folks needed some encouragement. We could probably all use something like that. The world out there seems awfully prickly and tense these days. Getting a blessing would be, well, a blessing. Paul's second letter to Timothy was an encouragement and a blessing-- even though the circumstances around its writing were grim. Join Pastor Chris as he encourages the congregation to be blessed for their faith, to rekindle their gift, and to trust in God and not be ashamed. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord! They refuse to do life alone. Let me flip the script for you—because everything you've been taught about growth? It's backwards. You don't need more noise, more content, more overwhelm. You need clarity. You need connection. You need the right people in your corner. Here's the truth no one's saying out loud: the women who rise fast aren't buried in a sea of self-help. They're in rooms that challenge them, conversations that stretch them, communities that see them. So today, I'm pulling back the curtain. In this episode of For the Good of the Public podcast, Liz Tenety, co-founder of Motherly and Founding Women, moderates a conversation on creating a culture of care with Elissa Strauss, journalist and author of “When You Care: The Unexpected Magic of Caring for Others,” Joe Waters, co-founder and CEO of Capita, Tim Carney, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and Dr. Charles Daniels Jr., founder and CEO of Fathers' Uplift. The panelists explore what it means to have a culture of care in this country and how it relates to today's concept of care, drawing from their professional experiences and personal journeys with parenthood. They dig into the practical solutions that would approach care in a more humane way, both on a policy level and a community level. Watch the video recording of this talk on YouTube! “Caregiving is a hot topic. It's on the campaign trail right now. It's in the headlines, but there's such depth to what we need around caregiving.” -Liz [07:44] “I believe that care consists of various peoples–aunties, uncles, teachers, coaches–that contribute to the being of one person. And I believe that it's mutually beneficial. I think members of their culture have someone to contribute to their being. None of us arrive to this place of love and care by ourselves. It takes a village.” -Charles [13:35] “Caring for others is self care. It is challenging and stressful and hard, but that doesn't mean that it's not nourishing us in other ways.” -Elissa [21:20] “If we want to support stay-at-home parents, if we want to empower choices by parents to care for their children in the ways that they think best and align with their values, one of the most important things we can do is address the cost of housing.” -Joe [45:32] “It's really tough to fix this because what we have on one hand is parents who can't afford safe, clean, reliable childcare, and the biggest input into that is the wages.” -Tim [52:15] TIMESTAMPS [00:00] Intro [04:04] About the panelists [07:36] The deeper meaning of caregiving [14:10] America's concept of care [21:29] Economic and cultural pressures [25:43] The role of women [32:05] Learning from other countries and cultures [41:25] A more human approach to care [51:12] Questions from the audience [1:08:39] Outro REFERENCES For the Good of the Public Summit Liz Tenety, co-founder of Motherly and Founding Women Elissa Strauss “When You Care: The Unexpected Magic of Caring for Others” by Elissa Strauss Joe Waters, CEO and co-founder of Capita Tim Carney, journalist at the Washington Examiner and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute Dr. Charles Daniels, founder and CEO of Fathers' Uplift “Family Unfriendly: How Our Culture Made Raising Kids Much Harder Than It Needs to Be” by Timothy P. The Uplift app is here! Try it free for 30 days I need to tell you something, and it may sting a little. You know that woman who's always the helper? She's the first to say yes, the one solving everyone's drama, answering texts like it's her full-time job. She's incredible—but here's the hard truth: she's vanishing. Slowly, yes, by yes, she's losing herself. She's so busy showing up for everyone else that she's forgotten how to show up for herself. And if you're thinking, “Oh goodness… that's me,” then we need to talk. Because what you've been calling kindness might actually be quiet self-betrayal. What appears to be selflessness is often just dysfunction in disguise. And today, I'm handing you the roadmap to stop people-pleasing, reclaim your voice, and start honoring your own God-given needs—without guilt, without apology. The Uplift app is here! Try it free for 30 days Picture this: you finally land the promotion, your launch hits six figures, your relationship feels like a rom-com—and then boom. Out of nowhere, you start unraveling. You forget the meeting, pick a fight over the dishes, or come down with a mystery illness right before the big presentation. Sound familiar? You're not alone in this. You're not broken. You're not failing. You're just bumping up against something called the Upper Limit Problem—a sneaky little mindset trap that psychologist Gay Hendricks describes as your brain's way of keeping you "safe" in your comfort zone. Here's the truth: your mind isn't trying to sabotage you—it's just scared of expansion. It thinks success is risky. But we're not here to play small anymore. It takes courage to step into the unknown, and we have that courage within us. Today, we're breaking through that invisible ceiling. We're talking about how to stop self-sabotage, stretch your capacity for joy, and step boldly into the life God's calling you to—without shrinking back. Anne-Laure is a neuroscientist, entrepreneur, and one of the most refreshingly original voices I've come across when it comes to learning, growth, and creativity. Her story is wild in the best way. She walked away from a high-powered career at Google (yes, that Google) to study neuroscience. Now she's researching the science of curiosity and learning at King's College London and running Nest Labs, where she helps people think better and live with more intention. What I love most is how she blends deep research with practical tools that actually work—and she's not afraid to bust the big myths, like the idea that success is some perfect, linear path. Spoiler alert: it's not. Her book Tiny Experiments absolutely blew me away. It's packed with wisdom that'll help you rethink your goals, your mindset, and the way you show up in the world. The Uplift app is here! Try it free for 30 days Perseverance doesn't have to be pretty. It doesn't need to sparkle or come wrapped in perfect Instagram quotes. It just needs to be faithful. We live in a world that's constantly shouting, "Do more! Be more! Hustle harder!" And it's exhausting. But there's a relief in knowing that you don't have to keep up with this culture. But let me tell you something that'll flip that narrative on its head: your breakthrough isn't hiding behind another motivational podcast or a fresh planner. You don't need more hype. You need holy grit. That sacred kind of grit that shows up when you're bone-tired. The kind that whispers, "God's still working," even when your heart feels heavy and your to-do list feels impossible. It's not about pushing harder—it's about standing firm. Right where God has planted you. Messy hair, unpolished prayers, and all. Because here's the truth that we often forget: transformation doesn't come from our striving. It comes from our surrender. It's when we say, 'Okay, Lord. I'm here. I'm showing up. Use me.' That's when the real magic happens. Timestamps: (02:30) - What is Holy Grit?
