Stu is joined by Brian Hardy for his third appearance on SWP and there is plenty to talk about. Brian runs United States Wrestling USW out of Delaware and has spent many years building the company into what it is today. Their TV show Justice is set to reach 52 episodes this year with tapings taking place on February 7. Special guests for the tapings include Duane Gill also known as Gillberg from WWE fame along with wrestling veteran and actor Andrew Anderson. Brian also trains the next generation of wrestlers at the USW Academy. On the episode he explains why he believes in training students the correct way especially when many schools do not and can be unsafe. In 2011, Japan was rocked by a magnitude 9.1 earthquake. It triggered a tsunami that measured 130 feet high - killing around 18,000 people and causing untold damage. Tina Dura and Robert Weiss say sea level rise will now allow even weaker earthquakes to cause tsunamis with similar destruction. And: Sea level rise is also endangering white cedar trees. Rob Atkinson and Linda Manning run the Fear to Hope project, which gets high school students out in the field to help protect white cedar trees from extinction. Later in the show: Liesel Ritchie and Duane Gill have gone around the world, talking with people who've had their lives upended by oil spills. They say we process the emotional trauma of natural disasters differently than man-made disasters. Plus: Disasters often hit historically marginalized communities the hardest. Nakeina Douglas-Glenn is the Director of the Research Institute for Social Equality. She's helping to ensure equitable outcomes for vulnerable communities impacted by disaster.

Their research focuses on the sociological impact of disasters and extreme events such as earthquakes, hurricanes and oil spills. They join us to discuss how the current COVID-19 pandemic compares to other extreme events, whether people from a particular area are more helpful than others in times of crisis, and how we develop resilience for the next time something bad happens.
November 30th, 1998: "Stone Cold" Steve Austin wants payback on The Undertaker for his actions over the past few weeks, and he enlists an unlikely ally to help him do it. Unfortunately for Paul Bearer, this results in him being thrown into a very undesirable location. Chyna agrees to go on a date with Mark Henry in order to get him to drop his sexual harassment lawsuit against her, but is "The Ninth Wonder of the World" actually warming up to Mark's advances? In a non-title match, WWF Champion The Rock goes one-on-one with Al Snow because he only steps into the ring with the best of the best. Mankind is forced to defend his coveted Hardcore Title against The Big Boss Man in what is only the sixth ever Ladder Match in WWF history. After last week's swerve, X-Pac calls out new WWF Commissioner Shawn Michaels, which results in HBK forcing him to defend his European Title tonight against Ken Shamrock. Gangrel & Edge team up to take on Tag Team Champions The New Age Outlaws, who are still being recruited to join The Corporation. Goldust steps into the ring with Jeff Jarrett as the "retired" Owen Hart looks on from ringside. A disgruntled Marc Mero puts his career on the line against -- of all people -- Duane Gill, but the Light Heavyweight Champion has some back-up in the form of a debuting weirdo from ECW. Val Venis takes on Tiger Ali Singh in a match which ends up being horrendously overbooked despite the fact that it only lasts for about three minutes. Shane McMahon forces WWF Women's Champion Sable to return to her roots and model WWF merchandise, and this particular product is rather unusual. Plus, a popular wrestler makes a surprise return, The Blue Blazer unmasks himself, and a 22-year-old Stephanie McMahon makes a random appearance backstage! Meanwhile over in WCW, Hulk Hogan retires from wrestling just a month before "Starrcade" in order to run for President of the United States. Enjoying the Podcast? November 23rd, 1998: Sgt. Slaughter has decided to step down from his commissioner role, so Vince McMahon appoints a replacement: the returning Shawn Michaels! However, that may prove to be the wrong decision for Mr. McMahon as HBK's first order of business is to schedule "The Corporate Champion" The Rock to defend his WWF Title against X-Pac! "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is hospitalized with a concussion after being hit with a shovel by The Undertaker last week, and The Dead Man then proceeds to continue his carnage by abducting Austin from the medical facility. Mankind is ordered to defend his beloved Hardcore Title in a Triple Threat Match against Corporation members Ken Shamrock and The Big Boss Man. In a non-title match, WWF Tag Team Champions The New Age Outlaws go head-to-head with J.O.B. Squad members Bob Holly & Scorpio. Edge & Gangrel square off with D'Lo Brown & Mark Henry in what turns out to be a very solid heel vs. heel match. And speaking of The Brood, WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Christian puts his title on the line against ultimate underdog Duane Gill. Goldust faces "Marvelous" Marc Mero while each man's former valet looks on from ringside. Steve Blackman steps into the ring with The Blue Blazer.... but who is inside the costume? The Headbangers take on Oddities members Kurrgan & Golga as The Insane Clown Posse proceed to make their presence felt from ringside. The Godfather is scheduled to face Tiger Ali Singh, but a pre-match interruption from an angry Steven Regal may change those plans. Plus, Chyna tries to put an end to the sexual harassment lawsuit which was filed against her, a leaf-blower is used as a weapon by multiple people, and Kane makes a surprise appearance! The Lapsed Fan wrestling podcast delves into the heart of the Attitude Era this week, and the game your co-chairmen play is most certainly deadly.Your deep dive into the 1998 WWF Survivor Series “Deadly Game” scrutinizes all angles of the WWF title tournament that sharply turned The Rock heel just as he was beginning to catch babyface fire, and the lessons that can be applied to a certain Roman Reigns.Immerse yourself in attitudinal booking with a study on the elements that helped the WWF, by this point in 1998, decisively pull ahead in the Monday night ratings wars, and never look back. The show includes:- SO MANY signs in the crowd. Just a sea of neon cardboard.- The Rock breaks through a bonafide top guy- Vince makes each and every bout of manipulation sing from his wheelchair in a vintage performance- The confounding first WWF run of William Regal as the “Real Man's Man”- The Big Bossman invades every nook and cranny of the show, except the run-in he was supposed to do in Austin v. Mankind, killing the match's heat- The name of the football squad Duane Gill coached to glory- JR on X-Pac's “suddenness”- Ken Shamrock huracanranas- The crowd is asked to react to an Undertaker who just admitted he set the fire that destroyed his family and was blamed on Kane- JR actually says this: “Mankind has opened up offensively now after realizing that the tube sock was around the mannequin head.” #AttitudeEraAll that and so much more, as TLF dissects the qualities that make the 1998 Survivor Series a true harbinger for a WWF product re-imagining that sent the company to new heights (and occasionally new lows).
