Exquisitely detailed measurements of the ripples in spacetime from the mergers of black holes now show that some of these merging black holes were, themselves, created by an earlier black hole merging event. While this had been suspected to take place, we now have clear evidence of it. On a less dramatic scale but much closer to home, new simulations of the early solar system suggest the large population of moons of Uranus needed help from a now long lost fifth giant planet to survive. A few episodes ago on the podcast Your Life and Restaurant, I talked about the transition from the first generation to the second in a family business. In this follow-up episode, I explore the psychology behind that transition.Growing up inside a family business creates a unique dynamic between founders and the next generation. Responsibility doesn't usually happen overnight, it develops slowly over time as the second generation grows into the role.In this episode I reflect on:The relationship between the first and second generation in family businessesWhy some children choose to stay in the business while others leaveHow responsibility and leadership develop gradually over timeWhat both generations must do for the transition to be successfulFamily businesses work best when both generations learn how to evolve their roles while respecting the foundation that was built.Contact Me at:yourlifeandrestaurant.com

Over the years at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. he has held a number of jobs in both the original Chico, California location and in the Mills River, North Carolina brewery. Today he goes by chief brewer and is increasingly becoming the public face of the venerable beer brand that just celebrated its 45th anniversary. In this episode, Brenda J. and Karen B. interview Deenbo Kidane, Director of the Daniel Initiative, a global network of pastors and church leaders. She also serves as the Director of Children's and Youth Ministry at El Bethel Ethiopian Church. Deenbo shares her story as a 1.5-generation immigrant and how this role allows her to bridge the gap between first-generation parents and second-generation children. She explains how cultural norms that feel "normal" to the first generation can create unrecognized trauma and identity loss in their children. This conversation offers a clear, compassionate look at generational trauma and the challenges second-generation kids face as they navigate belonging, culture, and identity. https://www.danielinitiative.com https://hangingontohope.org
