John Cena, while you lay there, hopefully as uncomfortable as you possibly can be, I want you to listen to me.I want you to digest this because before I leave in 3 weeks with your WWE Championship, I have a lot of things I want to get off my chest. I don't hate you, John. I don't even dislike you. I do like you. I like you a hell of a lot more than I like most people in the back. I hate this idea that you're the best. Because you're not. I'm the best. I'm the best in the world. There's one thing you're better at than I am and that's kissing Vince McMahon's ass. You're as good as kissing Vince's ass as Hulk Hogan was. I don't know if you're as good as Dwayne though. He's a pretty good ass kisser. Always was and still is. Whoops! I'm breaking the fourth wall. I am the best wrestler in the world. I've been the best ever since day one when I walked into this company. And I've been vilified and hated since that day, because Paul Heyman saw something in me that nobody else wanted to admit. That's right, I'm a Paul Heyman guy. You know who else was a Paul Heyman guy? Brock Lesnar. And he split just like I'm splitting. But the biggest difference between me and Brock is I'm going to leave with the WWE Championship. I've grabbed so many of Vincent K. McMahon's brass rings that it's finally dawned on me that they're just that, they're completely imaginary. The only thing that's real is me and the fact that day in and day out, for almost six years, I have proved to everybody in the world that I am the best on this microphone, in that ring, even in commentary! Nobody can touch me! And yet no matter how many times I prove it, I'm not on your lovely little collector cups.I'm not on the cover of the program. I'm barely promoted.I don't get to be in movies.I'm certainly not on any crappy show on the USA Network.I'm not on the poster of WrestleMania.I'm not on the signature that's produced at the start of the show.I'm not on Conan O'Brian. I'm not on Jimmy Fallon. But the fact of the matter is, I should be. And trust me, this isn't sour grapes. But the fact that Dwayne is in the main event at WrestleMania next year and I'm not makes me sick! Oh hey, let me get something straight. Those of you who are cheering me right now, you are just as big a part of me leaving as anything else. Because you're the ones who are sipping on those collector cups right now. You're the ones that buy those programs that my face isn't on the cover of. And then at five in the morning at the airport, you try to shove it in my face so you can get an autograph and try to sell it on eBay because you're too lazy to go get a real job. I'm leaving with the WWE Championship on July 17th. And hell, who knows, maybe I'll go defend it in New Japan Pro Wrestling.Maybe I'll go back to Ring of Honor.

This week, the Eastern Lariat dives into a possibly defining show for New Japan Pro Wrestling on 2/11: Tsuji remains champ, Jake Lee looked goofy and Tsuji called out Bushiroad – a lot to unwind for STRIGGA & Dylan! They also discuss the big question: where exactly do you go with Olympic gold medalist Aaron Wolf from here? Who's stepping up after Finlay and Hiromu being added to the list of departures? Maybe Callum Newman? The New Japan Cup may provide some answers. Dylan also plugs his obituary for Tadao Yasuda and STRIGGA is hyped for Katsuya Murashima moving to Europe. After 90 minutes of NJPW, the Lariat goes rapid fire with the Champion Carnival line up, NOAH's latest Korakuen, GLEAT, TJPW and of course Saya Kamitanis's tremendous performance on February 7!

Fred Rosser was known as "Darren Young" during his time in WWE. During that tenure, he was part of one of the hottest factions of its time in The Nexus, became a Tag Team Champion as part of the "Prime Time Players", and even was a protoge of former WWE Champion, Bob Backlund. Most notably, Rosser would become known as the first openly gay WWE Superstar who was active during his career - a distinction he still treasures to this day. Mike McGuire sat down with Fred before a Dungeon Wrestling show in Calgary, Alberta recently. Nowadays, in addition to wrestling, Rosser is Head Coach for New Japan Pro Wrestling's Los Angeles Dojo, the NJPW Academy. The two talk about his history in The Nexus, John Cena's role in his career, his positive outlook despite some personal struggles and even a dubious happening in Montreal that he was an inadvertent part of. Hiroshi Tanahashi is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time and the man known as The Ace of NJPW. In this episode, we look back at Hiroshi Tanahashi's legendary career — from his early struggles, rise as the face of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, iconic rivalries, classic matches, championships, and lasting legacy in wrestling history. This career retrospective explores how Tanahashi saved NJPW, defined an era, and inspired a generation of wrestlers worldwide.Topics covered:Hiroshi Tanahashi's early careerBecoming The Ace of NJPWRivalries with Okada, Nakamura, and moreIWGP Heavyweight Championship reignsTanahashi's legacy in modern wrestling
New Japan Pro-Wrestling closed the book on a defining era at the Tokyo Dome with Wrestle Kingdom 20, a show built around transition rather than nostalgia. Hiroshi Tanahashi's retirement match marked the end of a 25-year in-ring career and served as a clear dividing line for the company moving forward, while the rest of the card focused on consolidation and direction through major title matches and contender-setting bouts. Wrestle Kingdom once again functioned as NJPW's annual truth serum — clarifying priorities, tightening the championship picture, and setting expectations for the post-Tanahashi era. Elsewhere, AEW wrapped up 2025 with Worlds End drawing an estimated 140,000 buys, pushing the company's annual PPV total near 1.25 million worldwide. MJF reclaimed the AEW World Championship, restored the "Triple B," and immediately introduced volatility to the title scene with challengers lining up on television and a potential independent title defense looming at Limitless Wrestling. Willow Nightingale made history on New Year's Smash by becoming the first woman to hold two AEW championships simultaneously, while Tony Khan confirmed the return of AEW Grand Slam Mexico in 2026 and reiterated plans to expand dual-contract partnerships with CMLL talent. WWE entered the new year in the midst of its own structural shift. Trick Williams officially joined the SmackDown roster, Giulia regained the Women's United States Championship, and Matt Cardona was confirmed as an active SmackDown competitor. The WWE PPV and PLE archive began its transition to Netflix in the United States as Raw prepares to celebrate its one-year Netflix anniversary with a Stranger Things–themed episode. Injury updates for Dominik Mysterio and Sheamus, combined with The Usos capturing the World Tag Team Championships, further highlighted a roster recalibration heading into 2026. Tonight's episode breaks down the fallout from Wrestle Kingdom 20, what Tanahashi's retirement means for New Japan's future, and how AEW and WWE are repositioning themselves at the start of a new year. No overstatement, no revisionist framing — just a grounded look at a week that quietly reset the industry's direction. Wrestling Tonight: Episode 159
