Pro wrestling Hall of Famer Jake ‘the Snake' Roberts joined the show. Jake told the guys what he loves most about coming back to Pittsburgh – he will be in town Saturday night for the Riverhounds game. He said Jim Duggan and The Undertaker are two guys he usually he road to different towns with. Jake told an infamous Haku story, where he bit a guy's nose off. Jake said he got into the snake gimmick because he was a big fan of Ken Stabler. Oddly enough, Roberts is terrified of snakes. Jake was part of the iconic Austin 3:16 promo, losing to Steve Austin in the King of the Ring final in 1996. He had an insane Andre the Giant story, where the big man drank 2 cases of beer in a 2-hour car ride. Jake said he hated the Steelers in the 1970's and Lynn Swann was his least favorite. The guys asked Jake to reflect on the life and career of Hulk Hogan. Jake shared a story that he was in a program with Hogan, but the fans started turning on the Hulkster, so the idea got squashed. Roberts said he had a knack for putting promos together and told us his strategy of putting some notes down. Jake talked about his famous DDT finishing move and how it has become more of a transition move in today's wrestling. Jake told the guys a few of his favorite guys to work with. What was the worst injury Jake suffered in the ring?

What was the worst injury Jake suffered in the ring? Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray gave his takeaways from the joint practice today with the Buccaneers. How much pad crunching did we get? Ray said Vita Vea and Zach Frazier was a fun matchup. There was a near skirmish on a punt. Which team got the most out of this? The guys asked Ray about what we should expect to see from Kaleb Johnson in the second preseason game after an underwhelming first game. Where are things at with the Cam Heyward negotiations? Has Cam tarnished his legacy? Will the Steelers add a WR before we reach Week 1? Ray said there is an argument to be made that Chris Boswell is as impactful as Heyward. Total Request Thursday.

It's time for the 15th episode of our trip through SNME 1991-92 and it's gonna be a fun ride. We are continuing our drive into the catalog of SATURDAY NIGHT'S MAIN EVENT & this amazing relationship between NBC/WWF as we make another stop in the DELOREAN. Episode 15 of Season 5 is this upcoming Friday and as per usual ACEFIELD RETRO returns with MIKE BELCASTER & special guest MATT RUSSAK from the EXTRA COOLER show to chat about an retro filled happening! We start our journey to take a close look upon The Main Event #5 (February 1, 1991) from Macon, Georgia, headlined by Sgt Slaughter (c) vs. Jim Duggan for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, Saturday Night's Main Event #29 on April 27, 1991, from the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska, headlined by a 20-man Battle Royal & Saturday Night's Main Event #30 on February 8, 1992, from Lubbock, TX in the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum headlined by Hulk Hogan and Sid Justice vs. Ric Flair and The Undertaker. We chat about all the usual WWF happenings like titles changes, new debuts and just the importance of this working relationship with NBC & WWF. The celebrities & goofy presentation are attempting to bring in the casual fans and tying in popular culture with some of the biggest names in WWF history. Don't forget to grab your weekly Shot of Nostalgia at 7 PM Eastern to continue FLASHBACK FRIDAY ON THE TAVERN. As always, tip your bartenders & learn from the past!
Sixty Men... Three Rings... Three Giants... One Battle Royal! That was the tagline for the very first ever World War 3 event for WCW in 1995. It was not great, but it was unique and it drew a pretty good sized house in Virginia. Johnny B. Badd (not shockingly) opens the show against DDP for the TV Title and it tests the Diamond Doll's allegiances. The All Japan women are in tag-team action that puts what the WWF did a month earlier to shame. Big Bubba Rogers and Jim Duggan face off in a Taped Fist match (yes, really), Sting takes on Ric Flair in a forgotten match-up, and Lex Luger faces an injured "Macho Man" Randy Savage. In the main event, we've got 3 rings, 3 commentary teams, 60 men, 3 giants, and 1 winner. However, the finish was marred with controversy and you'll see why. Let's just say that it makes the babyface Hulk Hogan look like a giant douche. In the news, we discuss one of Vince McMahon's lawyers being investigated by the FBI, WCW and NJPW's working relationship possibly coming to an end, Sabu's surprise return to ECW, and much more! linktr.ee/MainEventMarks Learn more about your ad choices.
