Veatrice is a leader in physical therapy and one of the founders of the American Academy of Physical Therapy. Beatrice shares her journey into physical therapy, which was sparked by watching a physical therapist on a soap opera. She discusses her passion for healthcare and how she found her calling in physical therapy. Tune in to be inspired by Beatrice's story and learn about the impact physical therapists can have on the profession. Show notes: [00:01:12] Soap opera inspires career choice. [00:28:13] Fighting for equal job opportunities. More About Veatrice: Veatrice A. Cook is a native East Texan, born in Livingston, Texas, where she grew up and graduated from Livingston High School in Polk County. In her junior year of high school she realized that she wanted to be a physical therapist, and researched more about the profession, only to discover the challenges facing admission into a college program, as an African American student. The number of African Americans that made up the physical therapy profession in 1968 was less than 2%. Ms. Cook received a BS degree in Physical Therapy from Texas Woman's University, Denton, Texas in1976, and a MA degree in Special Education, from the University of Texas, Austin, Texas in 1981. As a clinician, she has been trained in the John F. Barnes' Myofascial Release Approach, and continues to use it in her practice setting. Currently she is the Director of Rehabilitation for TeamCareRehab, Inc in San Antonio, Texas. After practicing for over 47 years she is often asked about retiring, and her reply is always, “ I love the work that I do, and it's really not work when it's something that you enjoy”. The limited number of African Americans in the profession of physical therapy, and the lack of mentors was the inspiration that gave Ms. Cook the zeal to help found and organize two professional Physical Therapy organizations: The Texas Network of Minority Physical Therapists (TNMPT) in 1987 and The American Academy of Physical Therapy, Inc (AAPT) in 1989. Ms. Cook, along with Dr. Lynda Woodruff were the organizers, and two of the Founders of the AAPT. 82 African American physical therapists and physical therapist assistants met in Chicago, Illinois on September 16, 1989 to form this great organization, along with 13 others that sent funds to help in the efforts. Ms. Cook, the meeting facilitator was elected as the Charter Treasurer, and served as Annual Conference Chair for 10 years. She was also an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Texas Physical Therapy Association, and serviced as Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Minority Affairs for the APTA. As a community activist, Ms. Cook has served on numerous boards and nonprofit organizations, and has been awarded many honors for her service. In her profession she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas Woman's University and the Leadership Award from the AAPT. Ms. Cook often says that here greatest honor is being the mother of three wonderful children, Marcus Lorioun, Vernetha Dionne, and Lawrence Ray Williams, Jr., who are all college graduates and have successful careers. She is also a grandmother of two outstanding grandsons who are carrying on the family tradition of leadership in their high school. More About Jenna: Jenna Kantor, PT, DPT, is a bubbly and energetic woman who was born and raised in Petaluma, California. She trained intensively at Petaluma City Ballet, Houston Ballet, BalletMet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Regional Dance America Choreography Conference, and Regional Dance America. Over time, the injuries added up and she knew she would not have a lasting career in ballet. This lead her to the University of California, Irvine, where she discovered a passion for musical theatre. Upon graduating, Jenna Kantor worked professionally in musical theatre for 15+ years then found herself ready to move onto a new chapter in her life. Jenna was teaching ballet to kids ages 4 through 17 and group fitness classes to adults. Through teaching, she discovered she had a deep interest in the human body and a desire to help others on a higher level. She was fortunate to get accepted into the DPT program at Columbia. Dr. Kantor co-founded and runs Fairytale Physical Therapy which brings musical theatre shows to children in hospitals. She hosts the Dance PT Podcast and guest hosts on the podcast Healthy, Wealthy, and Smart. We sat down (virtually) with the fantastic William David Ellis, author of The Harry Ferguson Chronicles and the recently released KISSES OF MY ENEMY about time-travelling romance, Nazis, and dragons. An East Texan skeptic who writes fantasy inspired by figures in the Bible, who else but Mr. Ellis would have an amazing insights into humour, faith, and morality? This was such a wholesome and heartfelt episode where we discuss the concepts of defilement and glory, voice and storytelling, provocative book covers, biblical dragons, character arcs and the spiritual concepts of redemption and hope. As nonreligious but spiritual people ourselves, this conversation was gave us strength during these challenging times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and showed us even more how fantasy helps us through times of crisis. THE PETE SANTILLI SHOW Episode #1708 - Friday - December 13, 2019 - 6PM Live Broadcast Link - https://youtu.be/T_M_ptgAfR0 Death of The Deep State: Attorney Ty Clevenger Poised To Legally Dismantle Entire Russia Hoax -1708 6PM For two years, Ty Clevenger blogged about allegations that Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich — not the Russians — was responsible for providing embarrassing DNC emails to Wikileaks. He provided the U.S. District Court in Brooklyn with clear evidence that FBI officials were hiding records about Mr. Rich, who was murdered in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2016. Bank on it, says Clevenger: The FBI is hiding records about Seth Rich GUEST: Ty Clevenger is a 49-year-old lawyer, East Texan raised on a small farm, in Aggie. He practiced law in Collin County for a time. Now he handles mostly civil rights cases in Texas. One reporter described Mr Clevenger as a fearless, saber-toothed legal hit man for what he believes is right. Among those in his cross hairs: lawyers, federal judges, presidential candidates, the Texas attorney general, and in some Texas towns even lowly city council members. Ty is a former reporter, a former police officer and, since 2001, a lawyer. "I don't like watching people get away with things because they're powerful," he says, are words he tries to live by. Mr. Clevenger downplays his role in the struggle to reform our Judicial System by simply referring to himself as just a Lawyer and blogger but in 2016 he was one of the first high profile attorneys to file grievances with the D.C. Bar and with bar associations in New York, Maryland and Arkansas against the following notables: Hillary Clinton, about her email problem. Her top aide, Cheryl Mills over same. FBI Director James Comey and former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch for mishandling the email case. Clinton lawyer David Kendall for deleting the Clinton emails. http://lawflog.com/ E-Militia Article: Death of The Deep State: Attorney Ty Clevenger Poised To Legally Dismantle Entire Russia Hoax – E-Militia News http://ow.ly/4RQS30q1J8a Save Our APP To Your Smartphone! https://one.cards/PeteSantilli Morning Prayer Requests: http://petelive.tv/prayer
THE PETE SANTILLI SHOW Episode #1656 - Friday - October 18, 2019 - 6PM Live Broadcast Link - https://youtu.be/hlS-esJ1pd0 EmailGate: Epic Battle Between FBI & DOJ In Progress; Covering Up Murder of DNC Operative - 1656-6P Despite Prior FBI Statements that Seth Rich’s DNC Computer and Emails Were Investigated, FBI Now Claims No Related Docs in FOIA Request. Attorney Requesting Documents Demands Court Step In. Texas businessman Ed Butowsky filed a lawsuit where he outed reporter Ellen Ratner as his source for information on Seth Rich. The DNC operative was murdered in the summer of 2016 in Washington DC. His murder was never solved. According to the lawsuit Seth Rich provided WikiLeaks the DNC emails before the 2016 election, not Russia. This totally destroys the FBI and Mueller’s claims that Russians hacked the DNC to obtain these emails. In 2009, Anthony John Amyx, Business Coach, put down his guitar to stop touring as a professional musician and decided to build a personal brand known as the #TwitterRockstar, where he trained over 10,000 people on how to use Twitter to generate leads and sales. Along the way, he has been featured on CNN, BusinessInsider, CreativeLive and is a mentor to several of Forbes Top Social Media Influencers. Today, AJ teaches entrepreneurs in the creative industries there is a way of living that defies the status quo and mediocrity. He wants them to know it is possible to thrive in the modern-day marketplace. I started my business because . . . I wanted freedom. I wanted to be able to work from anywhere in the world using a laptop and internet connection. The thing I enjoy most about my business is . . . seeing the positive impact it has on humanity. I see the impact it has on my clients and their families. The biggest surprise for me as a business owner is . . . my results are not solely driven by the things I do. I am learning the more I do the deep inner work of who I am being in the midst of my doing of marketing and sales tasks, I make more money while working less hours. This is very counterintuitive to my East Texan upbringing. My advice to people considering starting a business is . . . do the deep work. Take radical responsibility for ALL of you. Every thought. Every emotion. Every result. It’s all feedback trying to guide you to living in your greatest potential. My older self would coach my younger self to . . . have unwavering confidence in myself and never look externally for validation or approval. But rather to source it internally, within myself.
Meredith is from Chandler, TX. East Texas born and raised, she just graduated from UT Tyler with a Bachelors in Accounting. . Meredith started playing music at the age of 10, originally playing in a choir and opera. By the time she was 13, she started playing old country music. After Meredith played her first show, she earned enough tips to go out and purchase her own guitar from a pawn shop, which was a Johnston guitar. Meredith's mother purchased her a "Fake Book" of a bunch of old country songs. She learned chords and eventually started writing her own songs. . The music scene in East Texas has been present for a while but it is growing, even though at times it may seem like it isn't. Meredith has played many different wineries, breweries, and restaurants in East Texas, mostly in Ben Wheeler, Tyler and Longview. Meredith prefers to incorporate all styles of music and likes to play all styles as she grows in her skills. Being able to jump around in genres allows her to connect with the audience a lot more because it appeals to so many different demographics. Country, old folk music, 60s/70s/80s rock, jazz, blues, they all inspire each other and create nostalgia for the audience. . Meredith was in school and would have to do typing tests, which she capitalized on that opportunity to learn new songs by writing the lyrics in these tests. This along with mastering cover songs helps create repetition, which sometimes gets "old". Learning a new song or changing up how you learn is important. This idea of consistency through change allows you to prepare for fighting past your own thoughts and helps you to focus. Sometimes while you're playing in a show your mind will wander and you with have some really weird or dumb thoughts, which can derail your performance if you're not prepared. Being nervous is okay, you just have to fight the urge to fly away or given into a momentary fear. Fighting your thoughts through self-awareness helps you to gain confidence, which is really important to being a musician/performer. These skills sometimes require experience in order to learn how to overcome the hurdles. Stay true to your goals and passions, which will create new opportunities to get your first show or your next show! . In Meredith's experience, booking shows really came through relationship and word of mouth. Sometimes venues would approach her and sometimes she would contact venues directly to play, however, the most effective way she was able to get booked was through relationships she built with other people. As she made friends with everyone and heard her play, she would end up getting referred to play different venues and shows. . Meredith gives some perspective on local music and how we should encourage artists through our business. Sometimes going to a restaurant or a venue for a show or there happens to be a show, you walk in with a preconceived notion on what you should get out of the restaurant, venue, band or music. The best thing you can do is to have an open mind when you're going into an establishment with a local artist. Engaging musicians before or after shows is always nice, as well as showing appreciation for what you're hearing or experiencing is greatly appreciated. Sometimes just showing up to a local show and giving it a chance, can be a great surprise! If you don't like it, you can always leave and do something else here in East Texas. Meredith highlights some of her favorite East Texas food joints: San Pedro's Restaurant - Chandler, TX The Forge Bar and Grill - Ben Wheeler, TX Moore's Store - Ben Wheeler, TX Stanley's Famous Pit Bar-B-Q - Tyler, TX WaWa's Seafood Shack - Athens, TX . Meredith loves sweet wines, specifically Moscato . Song: Transit - on the coming Meredith Crawford Album in January 2019 . Local musician and entertainer Douglas Jay Boyd joins us - Kiepersol Texas Podcast ep 9 . Hosted by Michael Roth . Douglas is a local East Texan who is well connected in the community and invests in artist collaborations. . Michael and Douglas met in early 2018 because of Café 1948 owners Sam and Amber Richmann were hosting a true Texas BBQ. Café 1948 is a local mobile coffee shop that is heavily invested and supportive of the local community. . Douglas is a native Texan, who moved down to Austin in 2005 thinking he could get his musical chops in that area. Once he got down there he was intimidated at first by the level of talent most of the musicians had in that area. It took a friend moving down there and pushing Douglas to become better at his craft before Douglas started to play shows regularly. Douglas ended up touring and playing professionally all around North America, around 300+ shows a year. . Eventually, Douglas moved to Tyler, Tx in 2015 because he wanted to be a father to his son. Between his fatherly duties and his lack of confidence in his ability to be a full-time musician, Douglas took a break from music. After spending some time outside of the music scene, he quickly realized that he needed music in his life on a regular basis. So he started sound engineering for some local venues and booking bands or playing smaller gigs as well. During this time, Douglas realized that there is so much potential in the East Texas music scene. Tyler, Tx is perfectly located, far enough away from most major Texas markets and far enough from Shreveport or New Orleans, that we are the perfect stop for touring bands as they make their way east or west. There is a lot of the musical talent here locally in East Texas as well. . There is a lot of opportunities around Tyler specifically, where you can experience cover bands or country music. Places like Stanley's Famous Pit Bar-B-Q provides opportunities to experience different genres and cultures within the music scenes. They are also working on expanding their restaurant and venue area seating, which will only bring in more opportunities for more bands to come out. . Stanley's Famous Pit Bar-B-Q caters to Americana, blues and rock'n'roll style music. . Texas Music City Grill & Smokehouse - Authentic Site has a really nice venue and has become very successful and will only continue to grow. They cater a lot to the red dirt country scene. . True Vine Brewing Company has a really awesome and different venue that caters to a lot of East Texas music and other concerts within the rock genre. . The Grove - Tyler has a really neat venue, that caters to a lot of the local musicians, but has great acts from out of town as well. . Rick's On The Square is a fun restaurant where they typically have tribute bands or cover bands or party bands. . ETX Brewing Co. is always open to having great music, with a nice mix of different genres. . The Garage Bar caters to more rock bands and music lovers . Moore's Store in Ben Wheeler, Tx caters to red dirt country, blues, rock . Cowboy's Tyler caters to red dirt and country . Red Rooster Icehouse in Hawkins, Tx which has a lot of country red dirt . Coyote Sam's Bar & Grille is where Douglas, Ian Power and Marc Beevers play on Tuesday nights. . We at Kiepersol are starting to have music, so stay tuned as we start to book more variety and shows. . . Douglas' Tips for Musicians/Bands - 1) Forget the money, 2) Don't forget the love of music. It should be about your passion of music, not money or fame. 3) Reach out for help or collaborations. No man is an island, so you will need help at some point. 4) Help other bands, musicians or local talent. You can both be in competition with other local bands AND advocate for the local community at the same time. The more people that come to Tyler, Tx and East Texas, the more opportunities other bands and musicians will have to play. . visit us at www.kiepersol.com
