The Art of Being a Mum

Ellie D, is a music publicist currently in Bundaberg, QLD, originally from Adelaide SA and a mum of 3 children under 2. She is hugely passionate about the Australian music scene. Through her podcast, her internet radio station and her YouTube series, Ellie's pure focus is highlighting undiscovered Australian music artists.Ellie spent many years in human resources and promotion, but her passion was in the music industry. In high school Ellie's year 12 project was on Community Radio, in University she was hosting 5RTI's Italian programme. It was when Ellis was hosting Southern FM's Monday Breakfast that she realised there were so many Australian artists who were going under the radar, so used her show to promote and highlight them . Ellie brought her skills from her previous jobs to begin working as a manager and promotor for Aussie artists, which saw her attend the ARIA awards. Early 2018 when she left Melbourne she was touted as the next Molly Meldrum. When her family moved to Bundaberg, as a 36 year old she was basically retired, as the music industry was so different. During 2020 when her son was 4 months old she was reinvigorated to do something for herself, and started her YouTube and podcast series and on 1st March 2021 Ellie began her radio station.Often a thankless job, that does not stop her. Her passion for the Australian music industry is that strong.Ellie also discusses her 15 year infertility battle, IVF journey, complications with her twin pregnancy requiring surgery and going onto 81 days bed rest after her waters broke at 20.5 weeks and having her twins in the NICU for 5.5. weeks. This episode contains discussion around foetal medical procedures, premature birth and complications, twin to twin transfusion syndromeWatch Ellie's family's appearance on ABC's Catalyst hereEllie instagram / website / OzNow Radio / YouTube / PodcastPodcast instagram / websiteMusic used in this episode from your host Alison Newman and producer LT Balkin used with permission. When chatting to my guests I greatly appreciate their openness and honestly in sharing their stories. Ellie shares her story of courage and resilience to start up her own 24/7 radio station in a saturated market. Sick of hearing the same music on repeat and keen to support Aussie homegrown talent, saw the launch of OzNow Radio - the home of original Australian music. Ellies BIO Familiar face? You're not dreaming. Featured on/in: Channel 9 News | CareerOne | The New Daily | The Sydney Morning Herald | The Age | Hit 107 | Southern FM | KIXX Radio | NewsMail | Soar Collective | ABC Wide Bay | Coral Coast Radio | Cory Talks Podcast | Kick Arse Chats My media story started in the early 2000's, when I hosted a youth program on 5RTI in Adelaide whilst studying at The University of Adelaide. This was my first true taste in panel operations, radio production (albeit in Italian) + saw my first on air interview with Scandal'us. My qualifications have since taken me all across Australia in diverse and exciting ways, as a Business/HR + Social Media Consultant, Recruiter, Career Coach, Public Speaker, Radio Announcer, Publicist and Podcaster. Having mentored small businesses, large multinational organisations, and musicians at varying stages of their careers, I am comfortable providing customised solutions to issues within Human Resources, Business Management, Marketing and Training facets. In 2016, after relocating to Melbourne, I joined the broadcasting team at Southern FM where I spent the next 18 months producing and hosting Monday breakfast. Aside from panel operations, I coordinated interviews with Aussie musicians far and wide (along with a few international notables including Isaac from Hanson). This opportunity led to my initiative of the Ellie D brand - a platform for start up muso's to seek support with the publicity of their music + many talents. From providing publicity support for The Healesville Music Festival to reporting from BigSound (Brisbane) + The ARIA Awards (2016/2017), every moment was thoroughly enjoyable + gave me a comprehensive insight behind the scenes. Now living in Bundaberg + establishing that none of the local radio stations had/have any interest in my skillset, I'm rocking + rolling Ellie D style.. solo + freelancing. Fully self funded. This year sees me focused on: - the weekly release of Behind The Music with Ellie D, featuring Australian singer songwriters - the people behind the music - as a YouTube series and podcast available on Apple Podcasts & Spotify; - the creation of Spotify playlists featuring Australian singer songwriters, whom are not household names, but deserve our attention; and, - the launch of OzNow Radio, home of original Australian music 24/7 Find Ellie on her socials @elliedofficial online oznowradio.com.au on email hello@elliedofficial.com Sharon's Links Download my freebie: 10 Steps to Overcome Burnout Follow me on Instagram: @thesharoncliffe For more about me and what I do, check out my website. On this edition of Cory Talks... It's the 2020 series finale episode. And it's the longest podcast I've done so far coming in at 67 minutes. Please don't miss this one and certainly do not feel you have to listen to it all at once. There's breaks after around each 20 minutes. While Victoria continues on its path to COVID Normal, not so good news out of South Australia which initiated a brief lockdown this past week. It ended earlier than expected because a man lied to contract tracers about his association with a pizza shop. Still health officials were working hard to bring this outbreak to a swift conclusion. Meantime the inquiry into contract tracing in Victoria has seen disappointment levelled at the Department of Health and Human Services over their handling of contact tracing. Australian Defence Force chief Angus Campbell held a media briefing on Thursday over the damning report into Australian Special Forces members abhorrent actions in Afghanistan. *WARNING* the audio contained in this edition of the podcast will be confronting to some. The media diversity Senate Inquiry is going to happen looking into Rupert Murdoch's influence on the Australian media scene, as the attacks on its two poster children, former Prime Minister's Kevin Rudd and Malcolm Turnbull intensifies. A Melbourne based podcaster claims he "tested the system" by getting someone to forge fake digital signatures for the petition. A $1.2 billion AUD victory for those wrongly assessed by the government as owing money to the nation. Freedom of Information (FoI) documents cast light onto Prime Minister Scott Morrison's mirky past when at Tourism Australia and Tourism New Zealand. Rabid celeb chef Pete Evans gets rebuked for a social media post. A big shout out to a really nice and generous person. Filmmaker and musician Patrick McGuinn sent me five of his films after a compliment on YouTube I posted in reference to one of his films. Hear the story on this episode. This being the final show for 2020, I have not one, not two, but three special guests... Guest: - Grant Baensch (@grantbaensch on most social platforms) joins me to talk about his love of the King, Elvis Presley and a radio show he does in tribute. Guest: - Ellie D (@elliedofficial on most social platforms) tells us what's ahead in 2021 for her podcast and YouTube Documentary Series - Behind The Music with Ellie D, plus another project in the new year. www.elliedofficial.com Guest: - Johnno Smallman (@thebizzwithjohnno on Instagram) reviews his year of entertaining us all with his live Instagram Shows during a year where we desperately need entertainment, and what's in store for 2021. This is the season one finale episode. In it I talk more about the thing that just won't go away... yes, you know what I'm talking about. How man's best friend may be lending a hand in the fight against COVID-19. The idiot brigade have been out and about this past week, Sky News falling all over themselves to get an exclusive news story out, only for it to be found untrue. I've made a rather expensive purchase this week and good friend of the show, Ellie D consoles me in that I made the right decision :-) Speaking of decisions, will I continue my Twitter presence after they suspended me for 12 hours?
