If you're a young person who's worked in retail, hospitality, or other casual jobs, you've probably wondered at some point whether you were not being paid fairly. Now, new research from the University of Melbourne suggests your suspicions are correct. A major study surveying nearly 3,000 young workers has found that one in three have likely been underpaid, even when you account for junior rates. The findings are stark: around 10% of workers were paid just $10 an hour or less, more than half weren't paid overtime they were entitled to, and one in five weren't paid for work they'd done. To help us understand these findings and their implications for young workers across Australia, we're joined on today’s podcast by Tom Dillon, Research Fellow at the Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law at the University of Melbourne, who co-authored this report. Senior members of the Trump administration, including President Donald Trump himself, are facing growing criticism from their own supporters after the Justice Department concluded that no document exists that lists every associate or client of convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and that the disgraced financier died by suicide in jail. Instead, they are calling for Trump to fulfil his campaign promise of releasing as much information as possible about Epstein's alleged high-profile clients. Gold is one of the world’s oldest investments. In 2025, it came into the spotlight as a haven for investors concerned about the volatility of our economic markets. About two months ago, it reached its highest price ever - around $3,800 an ounce. That's a pretty big deal when you consider that just five years ago, an ounce of gold was worth about half that amount. When gold prices soar like this, it can impact everything from the jewellery you might buy to the broader Australian economy. On today’s podcast, we’re going to look at what has driven the spike in the price of gold, and the mechanics of actually buying the shiny stuff. Did you know that rules of pet ownership are changing in Australia? Well, kind of. At the start of this month, the ACT revealed a new draft code of practice that sets out mandatory rules of dog ownership in the territory. Among the new rules is a required minimum time of three hours spent with a dog every day. Now that is just for the ACT. Read the ACT's full draft Code of Practice here. But it comes a month after new laws at the federal level came into effect that changed how pets are seen in the family law system.
