On today's episode, I speak with Frances Reimers from Firestarter a brand agency. Frances works a ton with professional athletes on their social media, personal brand and everything in-between. Frances Reimers is the CEO of Firestarter Communications, a sports marketing and public relations agency that helps athletes and coaches build their personal brand. On this episode, Frances joins Mark for a conversation about the changing economics of the sports world, including a major development that allows college athletes to monetize their name, image and likeness - something that in the past would disqualify them from being in the NCAA or joining a pro team. If you like sports, we think you'll love this conversation.
Branding expert Frances Reimers grades Washington rebrand an "F". The entire rollout was an epic fail--from the Today Show presentation, to the uniforms, to the crest, and more.
1:04 - Calls/tweets: Where do you think this Dan Snyder saga is headed? 11:07 - Gambling Partna Slim gives us his 2-piece and a biscuit gambling prop bets. Plus, Congress is DEMANDING that the NFL turn over EVERYTHING regarding the investigation into the toxic culture of the Redskins/Washington Football Team/Commanders by February 14th. 29:42 - Guest: Branding Expert Frances Reimers grades Washington an "F" on their rebrand
Tez and Chip talk to Frances Reimers about branding, sports marketing, the WTFs, and NIL. We also find out about insurrection dating, Dead Ass Birds, and we make Frances play Florida or Nah?
In this episode, we welcome a special guest to our show, Frances Reimers, Founder and Owner of Firestarter. Frances is a personal brand expert, PR and Social Media Strategist, Radio Host, Author, Speaker and Educator. She is also the creative director and project lead, managing a team of professionals that help NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, NASCAR, and NCAA clients to expand their paid, earned, shared, and owned media opportunities. We discussed the importance of positive branding and promotions of athletes, coaches, and programs. We then discussed the new NCAA legislation. From NCAA.org - The board approved the areas for modernizing name, image and likeness rules for student-athletes. When approved by the NCAA membership, these rules would allow: Compensation for third-party endorsements related to athletics, without school or conference involvement. Compensation for other student-athlete opportunities, such as social media, new businesses, and personal appearances, without institutional involvement or the use of trademarks/logos. The board emphasized that at no point should a school pay student-athletes for name, image and likeness activities. This is a HUGE game changer and we explored it with Frances Reimers as she discussed the implementation and offered some valuable guidance on building a brand for athletes and coaches, including social media dos and don'ts. Next week, we will host a panel of college coaches about their viewpoints on this new legislation. We also caught up with local basketball coach, Dale Lamberth and discussed his college playing days at Missouri State University and his Flight Basketball program and the mission of serving a lot of our basketball youth in the community. Since graduating from law school, Amy has represented individuals facing serious criminal charges including multiple felony charge drug distributions, sex offenses, embezzlement and murder. She shares how rewarding she has found her pro bono work assisting victims of domestic abuse in obtaining protective orders against their abusers. We also talk about how to manage through transitions that occur throughout your life and how to stay true to who you really are. Amy also tells what her mentors taught her about how to have confidence. We talk about why it’s so important to being open to being coached and mentored. She currently pays it forward with high school students, law students and young attorneys through her mentoring activities. She’s an active volunteer and recognized leader in her field and her community. I found her Brave Girl story fascinating and her career path interesting and I think you will too.
