Hello radio friends and welcome to our 10th episode hitting the Primavera airwaves. For this special instalment we have a top-notch guest -- all the way from Tropical London -- Mr. Frankie Francis. Frankie recently visited Barcelona and smashed our dance floor alongside Norsicaa. He is devoted to audio engineering at The Carvery and also spends his time producing amazing records with the almighty Sofrito Sound crew. They are also responsible for one of London's hottest nights, the praised "Republic of Sofrito" featuring amazing afro tropical bands, dj's and producers. If you are an Afro-Tropical head this is your chance to hear about Frank’s background, how Sofrito was created and soon shaped up a whole chapter in the music culture. Frank also talks about how they curate their imprints, future plans and dubplate culture. We also asked him about the Carvery, which is nowadays one of the most in-demand studios where he gets to master with love amazing records for labels such as BBE, Strut, Soundway and Favorite as well as getting cuts for artists like Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas, Dimitri from Paris and Nu Guinea, just to name a few. Thanks for so much love and wisdom Frank! Viva Sofrito and keep up the good work!
The host of this mix is Fabié - @fabiee2 - from Rythmical Archives - @fm61024, a record label based in Pesaro, Italy focused on promoting local music. Black music is the starting point where our vinyl-digging research and our spirit are born. R.A. and the RAW Festival (Rhythmical Archives Wave) are together working on the organization of djing-related events, contributing in the promotion of unedited, yet-to-discover musical content. Enjoy! ‘Here come the riffs straight from the heart of the world, from where every percussion has influenced different genres and people, something which is and will always be fundamental for each and every musical genre, because it’s spontaneity and primordial nature within us.’ BIO I got into the hip hop world dancing. The 11 years spent break dancing made me fall in love with this music and culture. Right now I'm a beatmaker and DJ. I work in my studio since 2015, sampling and playing records I carefully select. I recently released an EP by myself ("Fabiè"/Rhythmical Archives) and soon there will be an LP in collaboration with "Rimasti in Ombra" crew, a group of MCs, producers, saxophone and guitar players from Pesaro area. My partner Moro and I worked also on RAW Festival, a branch of Rhythmical Archives promoting DJs from Pesaro area. My music archive is the result of digging into authors like Piero Umiliani, Mulatu Astatke, Romano Mussolini, Miles Davis etc. But it is also made of contemporary artists pushing music boundaries (BBNG, Chris Scott, Youssef Dayes etc.) TRACKLIST: 01. Urbano de Castro - Fatimita 02. Unknown Artist - Temedy 03. André Sampaio E Os Afromandinga - Ecos De Niafunke 04. Unknown artist - Kizunguzungu 05. Gyedu-Blay Ambolley - The Message 06. Of course we're talking about another defeat! Cardiff this time, like it matters. Craig Clark and Frankie Francis makes triumphant returns to talk to Stephen and Gareth about it, as well as other stuff like Jack Rodwell deciding he wants to pack in (only if we'll pay his contract up though. Lolz). See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Thanks to everyone who supported the show this year. 2017 has been a good un so it's that time again when I take a look back over the past 12 months and pull out some of my favourite cuts that were released this year. Always a headache to squeeze everything into a 3 hour special (I actually went over by 30 mins!) but overall I'm happy with the selection. It's been a grand year looking back with some fantastic old and new productions doing the business. As ever Athens of the North came correct (with not one but 3 entries in this show) as well as Floating Points' Melodies International releasing some top draw gear from yesteryear - records that were long forgotten but now given a new lease of life. My top 3 records of the year of course had to be included (Steve Monite, Wajeed and Amor) and this show could of been a hell of a lot longer but I hope you enjoy it as much as I did in putting it together Merry Christmas and I'll see you all in the new year x 01. Some positives to take from the draw at Hull, but massively frustrating that we decided to sit back in the second half, eventually succumbing to a David Meyler equaliser. It was like West Ham last season all over again, all out defence, right backs galore and a late goal. But who is to blame? Gareth, Stephen, Frankie Francis and Michael Lough discuss all that and more. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We're getting to the stage where the undertaker is going to have to replace the coffin, such is the residual damage from the constant hammering of nails in the aforementioned casket of relegationy goodness. Sunderland seemed to be there in body and not in spirit as they limped to a 0-3 home reverse to Manchester United. Is there anything good about us at the moment? We're all scratching our heads. No Stephen this week, so Gareth is joined by WMS contributors Rory Fallow and Richard Easterbrook as well as local celeb and all round top bloke, Frankie Francis.
