In this series of extended podcasts we revisit some of our favourite interviews from the first 200 DGEIC episodes. Part 4: Heather Morris is a grandmother from Te Awamutu. She took up writing in her mid-60's and has now sold over 16 million books worldwide. He brought sailing to life and into our living rooms. One of the most recognisable voices in New Zealand history, Peter 'PJ' Montgomery looks back at his life, and a recent loss that has left him heartbroken. And most of us probably know Geoff Ross as the founder of ground-breaking Kiwi vodka brand 42 Below. These days he is farming down south, and is ruffling a few feathers doing it. Why? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
For 30 years, the closest Justine and Geoff Ross had come to cows was two cowhide chairs in their Auckland living room.
The founders of 42 Below Vodka, Justine and Geoff Ross are a controversial pair within the farming world. In 2017, the pair sold their company and bought a farm, aiming to change the model and confront the climate crisis, establishing Australasia's only climate positive farm. Geoff told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking that despite the controversy, most of what they saw and felt was positive. “We got huge numbers of messages of support from pretty much every agricultural company in the country,” he said. “A huge number of farmers wanting to visit and exchange knowledge.” Their South Island farm is 6,500 hectares, holding 10,000 merino sheep and 280 angus beef cattle. “We were naïve,” Justine told Hosking with a laugh. “Although we come from farming backgrounds, we'd never, we don't know anything about sheep and beef farming.” The pair fell in love with the property, realising that it provided the opportunity for them to pursue their goal in farming in a climate positive way. “We emit two-and-a-half thousand tons of greenhouse equivalent and we sequester, we remove five-and-a-half thousand tons.” Justine and Geoff detail their experiences in their new book “Meet You At The Main Divide.” “If you read the book,” Justine told Hosking. “You will see that there was a bumpy road.” “It hasn't been easy.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
My esteemed guest today is none other than Geoff Ross. Formally a vodka brand genius, he is now a trailblazing farmer from who's on a mission to revolutionize the way we think about farming. His journey is an inspiring one, though it has not been without controversy. Our conversation provides a fresh perspective on farming, debunking many misconceptions. We look at animal welfare practices, transparency, and biodiversity; and discuss the pressures the Ross family have encountered in ushering changes to conventional farming methods, their ambitious goal of becoming the first carbon-neutral farm, and the significant investments they've made to achieve this feat. New Zealand needs people like Geoff Ross. They are vital if we are to continue to innovate and be truly world-leading. --------- EPISODE CHAPTERS --------- (0:08:55) - Sustainable Farming and Marketing Opportunities(0:21:14) - Efforts for Sustainability in NZ Farming(0:31:24) - Farmers and Potential in New ZealandSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Over the next few weeks, The Front Page is revisiting some of the major stories we covered in 2022. Over the last year, the divide between rural and urban New Zealand has only seemed to widen. There was no better example of that than an episode of Country Calendar. In the episode, businessman Geoff Ross sparked heated debate when detailed some of his more unconventional approaches to farming, including switching music in the wool shed from AC/DC to Vivaldi in an attempt to improve animal welfare. So why was this so controversial, and what did a seemingly harmless TV show expose our rural realities in 2022? NZX head of insights and rural analyst Julia Jones joined us earlier in July and pointed out that the kerfuffle surrounding the TV show was reflective of a fear of change. Follow The Front Page on iHeartRadio or wherever you get your podcasts. This week, I am speaking with Geoff Ross. Geoff is a real estate development executive who has interdisciplinary expertise. He has both been trained as an architect and has worked in several architectural offices in New York City, and then he transitioned into the ownership and development side where he has worked with some of the largest and most active New York City developers. He's had projects come out of the ground in several US states and has repositioned assets in New York City of over $3 billion. This was a really fascinating conversation to see behind the scenes of how developers with architects, how they approach and hire architects, what they're looking for, what makes a successful collaboration, mistakes architects often make when they're trying to find work with developers, and how developers can actually take advantage if they're not properly prepared. We also speculate on the future of real estate in a post-covid world and the numerous business opportunities that may be presenting themselves to architects. ► Access your free training at http://SmartPracticeMethod.com/ ► If you want to speak directly to our advisors, book a call at https://www.businessofarchitecture.com/call ► Subscribe to my YouTube Channel for updates: https://www.youtube.com/c/BusinessofArchitecture ******* For more free tools and resources for running a profitable, impactful, and fulfilling practice, connect with me on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/businessofarchitecture Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/enoch.sears/ Website: https://www.businessofarchitecture.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/BusinessofArch Podcast: http://www.businessofarchitecture.com/podcast/ iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/business-architecture-podcast/id588987926 Android Podcast Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/BusinessofArchitecture-podcast ******* Access the FREE Architecture Firm Profit Map video here: http://freearchitectgift.com Download the FREE Architecture Firm Marketing Process Flowchart video here: http://freearchitectgift.com Come to my next live, in-person event: https://www.businessofarchitecture.com/live Carpe Diem!

Geoff Ross has a theory. A theory so explosive, so stunning, and so well researched, that it might just make you freak out so hard you quit modern life completely and go live in the woods and like chop wood or whatever. Geoff thinks that the state of technological innovation in this country is at least 30 years ahead of what we really think it is, and a cabal of government and private industry players is keeping it from us for their own creepy purposes. It’s nuts!!!

Geoff Ross is one of New Zealand’s most successful serial entrepreneurs -- Liz sat down and talked with him about things that maybe you wouldn't expect. Geoff shares some gritty details and hard-earned lessons: “When you’re in your business - and I was there myself!- you feel quite lost and alone and you don’t know those options until you’ve been through it a few times.” And for someone who doesn’t want anything to do with politics, Geoff’s also got some ambitious ideas about how New Zealand, as a country, could do better at being an environmental leader. Taking your company public is hard and Geoff really opened up about what that means. Have a listen, it's so refreshing to hear someone as successful as Geoff just cut the bull and honestly share his story with us. This is episode #83.
"Be stubborn about your goals and flexible about your methods". I was writing down a list of of people I wanted to interview on my podcast for the year, Jake Millar was one of them. I then saw a photo of Jake with Sebby Woodhouse at his new favourite restaurant Amano. So I looked Jake up on facebook, saw he was friends with a mutual friend Ryan Everton who's previously been on the podcast. I gave Ryan an email, got an into then snap, crackle and pop in the inbox I had a reply and a meeting 3 days later. I was excited to meet Jake and even more so after this interview. The guy dressed sharp as Ricky Martin and was hungry as a starving labrador looking at sausages to achieve his goals. The day we met he had just interviewed Geoff Ross, was about to sky dive out of plane and then have dinner with friends. I loved his energy and excitement for life and his own story and also his passion that I share for questioning the norms and education system, as he said, "it's fucked". And not only is he asking questions he's also proving answers including the two game changing business he's founded, Oomper which he's now sold, Unfiltered which provides a business education platform, and he also has a scholarship in the pipeline similar to that of Peter Thiels fellowship. I hope to be able to achieve and ounce of Jake's business success, perform a one arm handstand, have an outdoor bath with the girl of my dreams, buy my first home and help increase the health and happiness of NZ this year. I hope Jake's story and this podcast helps you to do the same, metaphorically speaking, I wouldn't want anyone else in the tub with my girl :P Think less experience more, Yours happily, :Doug
