On this podcast, I share a real client story about how she went from weeks of frustration and zero movement on the scale… to losing four pounds in just one week. The difference? This one habit. I'll also tell you how my son called me out on my own excuses in the gym and helped me level up my own results. What if the secret to breaking through plateaus, reaching your goals faster, and truly transforming your life came down to just one small habit? In this episode, I'm revealing the powerful — and yes, sometimes uncomfortable — practice that can help you make consistent progress in any area of life. We'll talk about:How to track “from curiosity” (instead of shame or perfectionism)Why tracking isn't just for food — and how it can apply to fitness, habits, business, relationships, and moreThe surprising truth about why we think we're doing better than we areHow being radically honest with yourself can change your results permanentlyWhy imperfect consistency beats perfection every timeWhether your goal is weight loss, building strength, improving a routine, or creating new habits, tracking gives you the awareness and accountability to make real change — and it's often the exact “next level” move you've been avoiding.Interested in speaking with me about how we can work together? The reindustrialization movement is fully underway, and cities like Detroit are leading the charge. But how do we accelerate the timescale it takes to get America back to the ‘golden days' of manufacturing? The key, as you'll hear in this episode, isn't to keep looking back at the past. It's to use the tools and resources we have today with a healthy dose of industry collaboration.Joining this episode is Chris Nolte, Co-Founder of Bloom, an operations-as-a-service platform created in Detroit to help companies build, ship, and service products through a vetted network of service partners. You'll hear a bit about Chris' unique story as an Iraq war veteran who originally started in the business of selling electric bikes. But he noticed, as we all saw during COVID, that global supply chains are more delicate than we imagined. You'll also hear about how Detroit's industrial background is making a comeback and even drawing in talent from the coasts to bolster American manufacturing. In this episode, find out:A little history lesson of Detroit and how reindustrialization has revitalized the areaHow COVID changed the public's perception of global supply chains and the need for a stronger industry in the USWhy Chris co-founded Bloom to help fill in some of the gaps needed for US manufacturers to thriveChris' take on how “custom at scale” can become more feasible in the USHow Chris went from serving in the military to starting an e-bike company before starting BloomWhat's holding back the US from becoming a manufacturing powerhouse like it was in the pastWhat the US can learn from China's approach to manufacturing and why the US needs to say “yes” moreThe culture change that's needed and why the next generation of workers is key to making that happenWhy we need to be open-minded and stop looking back at the past if we want to accelerate reindustrializationThe secrets behind Detroit's resurgence in manufacturing and why the Midwest needs to shout out about its successes Enjoying the show? More than you might think. This week, host Matt Kirchner is joined by Wall Street Journal columnist and cycling expert Jason Gay to unpack the world's most demanding sporting event: the Tour de France. They break down everything from team tactics to jersey competitions to the breathtaking drama expected in this year's race—highlighting the fierce rivalry between defending champion Tadej Pogačar and two-time winner Jonas Vingegaard.Along the way, they explore the surprising connections between elite cycling and STEM education, from aerodynamics and power output to mechanical systems, race strategy, and nutrition science.Listen to learn:What makes the Tour de France's 21-stage race one of the most captivating competitions in global sportA preview of this year's high-stakes showdown between two of cycling's most dominant ridersHow the science of cycling connects directly to STEM—physics, engineering, and human performanceThe advanced tech behind the race: radio comms, carbon fiber frames, power meters, and moreThe complex strategy and systems thinking behind every individual win3 Big Takeaways from this Episode:1. The Tour de France offers a powerful model for teaching systems thinking. Success on the course depends on how well teams work together—each rider has a role, and strategy unfolds in real time. Educators can use the race to illustrate collaboration, logistics, and decision-making under pressure.2. Cycling gives students a real-world application of STEM principles. Every stage involves physics, data analysis, mechanical systems, and energy management. From gearing ratios to wattage tracking to aerodynamics, the race mirrors the technical concepts taught in STEM and CTE classrooms.3. This year's race highlights how different approaches can lead to success. Pogačar races on instinct and momentum; Vingegaard relies on structure and consistency. Their contrast gives educators a chance to explore how mindset, preparation, and style impact outcomes—even in high-tech, high-performance environments.Resources in this Episode:Official website of the Tour de FranceConnect with Jason GayFollow Jason on X | Read Jason's articles in The Wall Street JournalWe want to hear from you! Welcome today fellow griever. I appreciate you, I see you and thank you so much for listening and if you can, please ---Support the showToday, I release a recent conversation with Betsy Thibaut Stephenson to talk about her son Charlie who was a smart, witty, reserved, and was (silently) living with being 'unmotivated' & being depressed. Despite doing what seemed like all of the right things, Charlie, a rising senior in college, died by suicide in July of 2022 at only 21 years old. It was shocking and devastating -- and they are learning to live with it, to carry with it! "Betsy Thibaut Stephenson lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband and labrador retrievers. When she isn't visiting her grown daughters in North Carolina and South Carolina, she is helping public affairs clients tell their story to policymakers and the media. Blackbird is her first book."There are SO many take aways from this mom-to-mom heart-to-heart....Here's a few of the highlights of our conversation include: How they responded as a family when Charlie reached out when he spoke out about his thoughts of self-harm from the first time. The trips to see him after he opened up-- and the letter she wrote him, that he carried with him & was found in his backpack after he was gone. The letters he wrote and left behind (not a suicide note, per se, but insight of sorts) & what those told his family & how they 'helped' them understand moreThe shock of his death-- and how they spoke 'the open truth' from the beginning.ALL of the 'signs; she gets from him now... why bringing him into 'everything" helps and makes it lighter somehow.
