Wine is about the humanity.  This concept hit me on a flight home from Rome. I was watching a movie and started to weep. I realized the human soul needs passion, passion forsomething; maybe another person, maybe a lifestyle, maybe a career, but passion drives our will. And wine is full of passion. To do it right, it takes nothing less than passion. Hey there, it's Paul Kalemkiarian on Wine Talks, and in this episode, I really wanted to get personal and share how deeply humanity and humility run through every thread of the wine world at its highest levels. I open the show reflecting on a profound sense of gratitude after tasting with some top producers—it reminded me why I'm passionate about this podcast. Wine isn't just a commodity to me; it's an expression of earth, spirit, and story, and the purpose of Wine Talks is to spread that message. I also let listeners into my own little world, sharing that I've tasted 100,000 wines over the years and even built a comprehensive database (and now an AI-driven app) to catalog all these bottles. It's quirky, but it keeps me grounded in what I love. Then, I shared a special moment from a recent trip to Rome, where I had the honor of attending the Vatican for the canonization of an Armenian archbishop. It was a powerful experience—full of history, pageantry, and meaning. Of course, the promised "private audience with the Pope" wasn't exactly one-on-one selfies, but still, being there among so many was remarkable. The journey continued to Puglia in southern Italy, where I managed, despite short notice, to meet with Mark Shannon of Amano wines. Mark's story resonated deeply—an American winemaker settling in an up-and-coming wine region, driven by pure passion. We recorded a heartfelt conversation, shared great food, and I came away reminded how wine connects people at the most human level. On my flight home, I got unexpectedly emotional watching Top Gun: Maverick. It hit home how we all seek passion and escape—sometimes in movies, sometimes in travel, sometimes in wine. No matter our circumstances, that longing for meaningful off-ramps never goes away. The show then explores not only the artistry and soulfulness in winemaking, but also the nuts-and-bolts of the business—from manipulated supermarket bottles that miss the mark to innovative new packaging concepts, marketing strategies, and the challenges faced by artisans like Mark Shannon trying to access the U.S. market. I shared anecdotes about recent guests—a geophysicist connecting volcanic soils to wine character, a business-savvy marketing pro, and other passionate personalities in the wine world. I reflected on the fascinating diversity of experiences, from NBA stars getting into wine to trailblazers supporting Armenian wine in the global conversation. In the end, I emphasized why I do this: it's for the humanity, the stories, and the connections that wine brings. My hope is always to bring listeners closer to the heart of wine—whether it's a legendary Bordeaux tasting or a birthday party at my own home. Wine Talks was invited to meet the Pope....well, at least by the language in the invitation, it sounded like we were going to meet the Pope. It turns out that the word "private audience" meant with 6294 other private invitees. Lol, it was an honor just to be there. Wine Talks took a detour out of Rome to the now-famed wine region of Puglia.  Home of Primitivo, Negroamaro, and Fiano, the area of Puglia has a rich Italian history on its own. A paper co-authored by Tatsuya Amano was rejected recently without review because its level of English did not meet the journal's required standard. His research suggests that 38% of researchers who are not fluent in English have experienced similar rejections.Amano, whose first language is Japanese, describes how dismantling language barriers will result in improved knowledge sharing, and in the long run, better research.Journals, he argues, can help by taking steps to distinguish the quality of science from the quality of language when assessing manuscripts. And conference organizers can adopt a range of measures to support presenters and attendees whose first language is not English.The biodiversity researcher is one of eleven scientists leading TranslatE, a project which strives to make environmental science more accessible to non-fluent English speakers.AI and translation tools can bring huge benefits to researchers like him, he says, but they won't all have been trained on many of the world's estimated 7000 different languages, deepening inequities in science. 早安，我是咔图摄影教育中心的讲师星明，今天们来回答“如何在复杂光线环境下准确测光并曝光？”的问题。解释这个问题之前呢，首先我们先来简单复习一下测光和曝光这两个知识点。测光也就是相机测量要拍摄的画面亮度，同时呢相机会根据内部的算法，给你一个把测光点拍成18%灰亮度的曝光参数。那这个内部的算法呢通常相机上会给你这么三到四种选择。我自己比较常用的有两个，一个叫评价测光，近似于把整个画面拍成18%灰的亮度。另外一个叫点测光，就是把测光点圈住的范围内的画面拍成18%灰的亮度。在相机测光完成以后，我们就要操作相机曝光了。这个时候我们可以选择直接使用相机给出来的参数曝光，拍出来的画面就是18%灰的亮度。或者呢，是对相机给出来的参数进行修正，让拍出来的画面更接近我们现场看到的亮度。而修正的方式呢，可以用曝光补偿或者手动调整参数来进行修正。修正的口诀就是所谓的白加黑减了。也就是环境太亮了就加曝光补偿，环境太暗了就减曝光补偿。至于详细的操作和原理这里就不展开讲了，如果有还不太清楚的同学可以查找一下往期的早自习，有相关的介绍。© 星明那么针对复杂光线的环境呢，我目前想到的比较典型的情况有两种：一种是户外的自然光，一种是舞台灯光。白天，尤其是晴天的户外自然光是比较稳定的，光线本身的变化不怎么剧烈，换场景引起的光线变化可能还要更强烈一些。所以呢这种情况我会用评价测光、自动iso，配合曝光补偿，根据拍摄内容手动调整光圈和快门。比如说拍人像就用大光圈，拍运动就用高速快门。© 星明而在多云、日出日落或者是夜景这些情况下，光线的变化会比较频繁，而且变化幅度通常都不小，这就需要频繁地调整曝光参数。如果是拍人像，我就会用点测光来测人脸，再稍微调高一点曝光补偿来优先保证人脸不过曝。如果是拍风光，我一般会用评价测光配合曝光补偿白加黑减，让画面整体尽量不过曝或者不欠曝，好让后期有更大的还原空间。Photo by Vinicius "amnx" Amano on Unsplash如果去拍舞台，你很可能会遇到全黑、剪影或者聚光灯突然都打在一个人身上。快的时候一秒能变几次，你跟着现场的变化去调整参数是根本来不及的。我习惯的做法呢是在彩排的时候，找个绝大多数灯都打开的时机，试好曝光，再切换到手动曝光模式固定在这个曝光参数上来拍舞台。这样呢舞台全黑，你拍出来的也就是全黑，舞台是剪影，你拍出来的也会是剪影，即使所有聚光灯照在一个人身上，这个人也不会过曝。这个就是我百试百灵的拍舞台的方法。好了，关于这个问题今天就先聊这么多。如果有你遇见过其他比较复杂的光线环境觉得不好处理，欢迎在早自习下方留言提问，我会尽量解答。我是咔图摄影教育中心的讲师星明，每天早上6:30，微信公众号以及喜马拉雅的“摄影早自习”栏目，不见不散。

In questa lezione imparerete delle espressioni provenienti direttamente da film italiani che potete usare nelle conversazioni della vostra vita di tutti i giorni (e che stupiranno gli italiani!). Pronti? CITAZIONI di film che usiamo QUOTIDIANAMENTE Ricordati che devi morire (“Non ci resta che piangere”, 1984) La citazione "Ricordati che devi morire" viene dal film italiano "Non ci resta che piangere" del 1984, diretto da Massimo Troisi e Roberto Benigni. I protagonisti viaggiano indietro nel tempo e si ritrovano nel 1492 in un borgo toscano. La frase viene pronunciata da un frate diverse volte consecutivamente. Riflette il tema della morte presente nel film in un modo leggero e umoristico, tipico dello stile comico dei registi Troisi e Benigni. La citazione è la traduzione della famosa frase latina “Memento mori” (promemoria della morte e della brevità della vita), che invita le persone a vivere una vita piena, con questa consapevolezza. Dopo l'uscita del film, la citazione in italiano è diventata molto popolare ed è stata utilizzata anche da diversi comici italiani nel corso degli anni, sempre con un'accezione umoristica. Di conseguenza, anche gli italiani la usano frequentemente, sia per invitare l'interlocutore a godersi il momento e la vita, tenendo presente che dura poco, sia in senso ironico.  E io pago! (“47 morto che parla”, 1950) La citazione appartiene a Totò (nel personaggio di un barone avaro) ed è una delle sue battute più famose. Nel film Totò, ogni volta che qualcuno sta sprecando delle risorse da lui offerte, ci tiene a specificare che lui è sempre quello che ci rimette e che tira fuori i soldi. Questa espressione viene ancora usata quotidianamente, soprattutto da chi deve pagare per gli altri. Per esempio, la dicono i genitori ai propri figli, la dice il collega o l'amico che finisce per offrire sempre a tutti e così via. Buongiorno, principessa! ("La vita è bella”, 1997) La citazione "Buongiorno principessa!" è tratta dal film italiano "La vita è bella", diretto da Roberto Benigni e uscito nel 1997. Nel film, il personaggio interpretato da Roberto Benigni, Guido, usa questa frase come saluto per esprimere il suo amore nei confronti di Dora e il desiderio di farle vedere la bellezza e la gioia anche in mezzo all'oscurità e alla tragedia dell'Olocausto. "La vita è bella" è ambientato durante l'Olocausto e Guido cerca di proteggere suo figlio e sua moglie dalla realtà brutale del campo di concentramento in cui si trovano, trasformando la loro situazione in un gioco di immaginazione, per regalargli momenti di felicità in un contesto così drammatico. Oggigiorno, usiamo questa citazione sia con la stessa sfumatura affettuosa originale, sia in senso più ironico, ad esempio se qualcuno si sveglia tardi o con una faccia completamente sconvolta. Non posso né scendere né salire ("Tre uomini e una gamba”, 1997) Questa citazione viene dal film "Tre uomini e una gamba”, una famosa commedia italiana del 1997 diretta da Aldo, Giovanni e Giacomo, che sono anche i protagonisti del film. Tre amici si trovano coinvolti in una serie di ostacoli e situazioni comiche mentre cercano di consegnare una gamba di legno (costosa scultura di un famoso artista). Aldo pronuncia questa frase perché, sceso dalla macchina per cercare Giacomo, si avventura tra le rocce in infradito e si ritrova bloccato.  Oggigiorno questa espressione viene utilizzata per indicare una situazione problematica in cui qualsiasi soluzione potrebbe portare a un risultato negativo. Il mio falegname con 30 mila lire lo faceva meglio ("Tre uomini e una gamba”, 1997) Usata per criticare la qualità di un lavoro o di un prodotto che però è costato molto. Suggerisce che sarebbe stato possibile ottenere un risultato migliore a un prezzo inferiore, magari dal proprio “uomo di fiducia”. Anche questa viene dal film “Tre uomini e una gamba”.
