Julia Jones has over 15 years of experience as a postpartum doula, educator, and best-selling author and has trained over 1500 postpartum professionals in over 60 countries through her worldwide leading education training for postpartum professionals. In this episode Julia shares about her entry into the space of postpartum support, differences in postpartum support practices around the world, and the development of her long-term vision in revolutionising postpartum care practices through Newborn Mothers. Julia's initial interest in ayurvedic practices led her down the path of offering postpartum care, but there was a lack of formal training options when she started 15 years ago. “The dread of going into the night alone with a baby is very normal because it's not how we were designed. In many traditional societies, and even societies today, like Indigenous communities, babies would have multiple adult carers - sometimes 8-14 - every single day. Doing this job of raising a baby at home alone, with not a lot of friendship or professional support, informational support or support with basic chores like cooking and cleaning, is exhausting. I hope this understanding can help you be more forgiving and compassionate towards yourself, to lower your standards. It's hard, but understanding that it takes a village to raise a child - in a very literal sense - can help you in early postpartum and encourage you to reach out for support whether that's childcare, meal deliveries, help from family and friends or guidance from a health professional.” - Julia Jones in today's episode for our Postpartum Uncovered Mini Series brought to you by Boody. “It's like being a chameleon. You try to look neurotypical or you try to block out the ADHD tendency, so you can mask when you have any type of disorder. So autism, OCD, ODD. Today's episode is on a topic I'm very passionate about and I've been learning about now for quite a bit, and it's the art of saying NO - gracefully. I used to have to say yes to everything. My imaginative and optimistic mind would get excited by all the invitations, activities, support, and projects for friends and family - so much to the detriment of my time. I had a real case of fear of missing out (FOMO), missing out on something fun. It was only when I learned about the joy of missing out (JOMO), did I realize what an important tool this is and I'm excited to share this with you in this episode. Please Enjoy! ‘Women need security to feel safe because when a woman feels safe, she can open her heart. She doesn't feel safe when a man comes and goes. She feels like has to start all over. When a woman doesn't feel safe, she can't make as much estrogen and estrogen is the magic hormone that allows her to be orgasmic. So you get to much higher levels of multi-orgasmic pleasure if a woman feels loved and safe. And ironicall, if a woman feels loved and safe at a very high level, a man's hormones that get produced in his body are different than regular sex. There is research on this where is shown that married men who have a good sex life, their body makes a hormone after sex called prolactin. For a man, prolactin is the monogamy hormone. So when people ask what makes men monogamous? The answer is getting married and having a successful relationship.' - John Gray In this episode we will dig into the roles hormones play in relationships, top tips and tools for finding the right partner, creating and maintaining the most profound lasting relationship, and the relationship between the human genome and expression of masculinity and femininity. ‘We recognize that people with asthma breathe faster, often harder, have upper chest breathing, irregular breathing, and mouth breathing. It's feeding into conditions, but it's also activating a stress response. People with asthma don't just have asthma. As asthma severity increases, so does tiredness. They're more likely to have disrupted sleep, to be waking up during the middle of the night, especially if they have uncontrolled asthma and oftentimes that's overlooked, and taking medication. Of course, medication will help to control their asthma, but it's not getting to the underlying issue of a poor breathing pattern and it's not happening their sleep.' - Patrick McKeown, creator, CEO and Director of Education and Training at Oxygen Advantage®, Director of Education and Training at Buteyko Clinic International and President of Buteyko Professionals International.
