Today Dr. Julia Brock joins in to talk about how hunting transformed and was transformed by the Modern South. We talk about dimensions of race, class, and sex and how they informed land stewarship and environmental conservation in the early twentieth century and how those changes affect us today.About our guest:Dr. Julia Brock is Associate Professor of History at the University of Alabama.
Mark Szczepkowski grew up in Wisconsin and hunted whitetails for years. He eventually moved out west and settled in Idaho. His skills in hunting big whitetail deer followed him, and he was pulling big mountain bucks that were making even the Idaho locals jealous. I got to know Mark very well for the past 10 years, and he is one of the most down to earth humans you will ever meet. He taught me a lot about deer scrapes, tree stand setup, and how to find those MONSTER whitetails that elude other hunters on Public Land. With the rattling and calling techniques and with the techniques Mark has taught me, I have found great success on taking down some big whitetails myself. When we started creating the Stuck N The Rut Master Class Collection, I knew that if we created a Whitetail Course, we needed to get Mark involved. If you are interested in increasing your skills in pulling big whitetails in your area, make sure to check out the Whitetail Master Class Here https://360sportsman.org/whitetaildeer

Send us a textThe river might be choppy, but the vision is clear: we bring Noah and Lauren from Rowdy Creek Outdoors into the studio to chart how a loud, hilarious sandbar scene turns into stories with real weight. We start where it all began—accessible racing that feels like a duck hunt on water—then tackle what separates a fair lane from a bad one, why 660 feet matters, and how one over-trimmed heartbeat can write a whole afternoon's narrative. The banter is sharp, but the blueprint is sharper. From there, we lean into the pivot that has us most excited: Rowdy Creek's next chapter in bowhunting and short-form documentary. Think two-minute profiles that slow the energy, pull focus on the people behind the boats, and capture the real work between highlight clips. Along the way, we swap misses and lessons—string-jumping does, angle math from tree stands, and the difference between convenience targets and 3D deer that train your eye for real shots. Ethics, patience, and clean exits take center stage without killing the fun. Then the wildcard: golf. We sketch formats inspired by YouTube golf, brainstorm ridiculous stakes, and laugh about high socks and “best ball I've ever hit” moments. But the crossover is legit—pacing, feel, composure, and course management echo the discipline that makes a race fair and a hunt ethical. Add in a gear detour—Canon vs Sony, editing flow, who actually gets to touch the camera—and you've got a full picture of how a rowdy brand grows up without going corporate. We wrap with a plan: play nine, then set Lauren up for her first deer. Racing roots, bowhunting craft, golf chaos—one day, one crew, one evolving story. If you love outboard racing, DIY short films, ethical archery, or just want to watch a team raise their game while keeping the jokes, hit play, subscribe, and drop us a comment with what you want to see next.GUEST WEBSITE: https://rowdycreekoutdoors.comOUR WEBSITE/OTC MERCH: https://offtheclockwithbscott.comHAVOC GEAR SHOP: https://havocnation.comHAVOC BOATS WEBSITE: https://havocboats.comHAVOC DEALERS: https://havocboats.com/dealers/WREAKIN' HAVOC CREW WEBSITE: https://wreakinhavoccrew.comSOCIAL LINKSTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@OffTheClockwithBScottFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Off-The-Clock-With-B-Scott/61557737220814/Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/OTCwithBScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/offtheclockwithbscott/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwu6_wWcXDoBzhpHv4YgZGQRumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-5644782Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2g76hRDp9d609LETevSH2U?si=0ba23ae282c94e88&nd=1&dlsi=d9f84d7699b84724Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off-the-clock-with-b-scott/id1734265760

Send us a textWant to see more mature bucks during daylight hours this season? Clifton Denny from On Your Own Outdoors reveals game-changing tactics that fly in the face of conventional deer hunting wisdom. The most eye-opening revelation? Mature bucks aren't actually "going nocturnal" - they're simply responding to patterns hunters unknowingly establish. Clifton explains how the common practice of filling feeders after work at 5-6pm is precisely why your target buck only appears on camera at night. By shifting your feeding schedule to 10pm and changing your bait type right before hunting, you create the perfect scenario for daylight encounters. The conversation unveils the power of "fat lines" - those mysterious thicker contour lines on topographical maps that consistently mark high deer activity zones. What started as a theory has been field-tested with remarkable success, with hunters reporting mature buck sightings exactly where these terrain features appear on maps. Clifton's comprehensive breakdown of this approach gives listeners a significant advantage for early season success.Beyond technical strategies, the episode dives into fascinating observations about deer behavior during velvet-shedding period, bachelor group dispersal, and critical early-season food sources like persimmon and honey locust trees. The discussion even addresses regional hunting differences, with practical advice for Arkansas hunters looking to adapt their skills to different terrains.Whether you're a weekend warrior or a dedicated trophy hunter, these practical, field-tested approaches will transform your early season strategy. After implementing these tactics, you'll never look at your hunting property - or your trail camera results - the same way again.GUEST WEBSITE: https://www.onyourownoutdoors.comGUEST YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/c/cliftondenneyonyourownoutdoorsOUR WEBSITE/OTC MERCH: https://offtheclockwithbscott.comHAVOC GEAR SHOP: https://havocnation.comHAVOC BOATS WEBSITE: https://havocboats.comHAVOC DEALERS: https://havocboats.com/dealers/WREAKIN' HAVOC CREW WEBSITE: https://wreakinhavoccrew.comSOCIAL LINKSTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@OffTheClockwithBScottFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Off-The-Clock-With-B-Scott/61557737220814/Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/OTCwithBScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/offtheclockwithbscott/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwu6_wWcXDoBzhpHv4YgZGQRumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-5644782Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2g76hRDp9d609LETevSH2U?si=0ba23ae282c94e88&nd=1&dlsi=d9f84d7699b84724Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off-the-clock-with-b-scott/id1734265760

Send us a textHave you ever wondered why you can hit a bullseye one day and miss the target entirely the next? In this eye-opening conversation with Neil Hignight of 501 Archery in Hot Springs, we dive deep into the psychological aspects of archery that even experienced shooters struggle to master.Neil's journey from barbershop owner to professional bow technician began after a neck injury forced him to reconsider his career path. What started as casual help at a local bow shop evolved into a full-time passion for helping others improve their archery skills. "I love to serve people," Neil explains. "I want to see somebody needing help because I want to help them—and it's not for my own gratification."The conversation takes a fascinating turn when Neil reveals the concept of "target panic"—a psychological phenomenon affecting virtually all archers. With remarkable clarity, he explains how modern technology has paradoxically made some aspects of archery more challenging by disconnecting shooters from fundamental techniques. "We've forgotten the fundamentals," Neil says. "Technology's got so advanced... everybody's shooting their bow instead of letting their bow shoot."Beyond equipment talk, Neil shares invaluable insights about the mental discipline required for archery success. His passion for teaching through the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) demonstrates how archery builds confidence and self-reliance in young people—qualities increasingly important in our technology-dominated world.Whether you're a seasoned bow hunter or just curious about the sport, Neil's practical wisdom will transform how you think about archery. His memorable advice to "let your bow shoot instead of trying to shoot your bow" might just be the key to breaking through your performance plateau. Ready to overcome your target panic? Listen now and discover the mental game that separates good archers from great ones.GUEST WEBSITE: https://www.facebook.com/p/501-ARchery-61572293309863/OUR WEBSITE/OTC MERCH: https://offtheclockwithbscott.comHAVOC GEAR SHOP: https://havocnation.comHAVOC BOATS WEBSITE: https://havocboats.comHAVOC DEALERS: https://havocboats.com/dealers/WREAKIN' HAVOC CREW WEBSITE: https://wreakinhavoccrew.comSOCIAL LINKSTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@OffTheClockwithBScottFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Off-The-Clock-With-B-Scott/61557737220814/Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/OTCwithBScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/offtheclockwithbscott/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwu6_wWcXDoBzhpHv4YgZGQRumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-5644782Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2g76hRDp9d609LETevSH2U?si=0ba23ae282c94e88&nd=1&dlsi=d9f84d7699b84724Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off-the-clock-with-b-scott/id1734265760

In this epsisode, I have the honor and privilege to have Jace Elliott, Iowa DNR Whitetail Deer Biologist in person! Jace explains his common sense CWD management plan. This plan relies on hunter participation in harvest from hunters to decrease spread of CWD and also dependent on hunter participation regarding submitting deer heads or lymph nodes to DNR Conservation Officers or at the Wildlife Units to determin CWD in your area. We also dicuss the future for the whitetail deer in Iowa, how other states have approached CWD, what makes Iowa different in the plan, the predator factor, and also the relationship between Iowa hunters, whitetail deer, and the pryon itself.Thank you for listening! This week Matt and Chainsaw Chad discuss the ins and out of forbs and the value they provide to lactating whitetail and bucks developing antlers. We review a recent NDA article published by Mark Turner named "One Type of Plant is the Greatest source of Deer Nutrition. Here's How to Grow it" We get deep into the Crude Protein, Calcium and Phosphorus nutritional demands and which forbs provide the adequate % to demands of a lactating whitetail doe. Broadleaf species such as marestail, jewelweed, pokeweed, ragweed, old field aster and giant ragweed rise to the top of the list when it comes to nutritional value. It does appear that calcium levels and protein levels are rarely lacking, but the phosphorus levels are less commonly found met by forage values. Regardless, the true takehome value comes from offering diversity in your forages! Both, forbs and woody and semi-woody plants need to offered in abundance! Its not food plots that are meeting the needs of whitetail deer, its weeds! Promote weeds to feed deer.

Warning! This episode is going to contain some adult content! Bray is a local rancher here in North Dakota and one of my good buddies. We talk about hunter/ land owner relations from the land owner perspective. We try to figure out why nearly all of the private land is posted, unlike 20 years ago. We also discuss some Do's and Don'ts as to how and when to approach a landowner to get permission.
