Today I share my conversation with Sharon Ehlers. She lost her best friend Joy and ex-fiancé John within a few years of each other, both to suicide. Sharon is the founder of Grief Reiki® - a multidimensional approach to grief and loss using emotional recovery, Reiki and other spirituality-based tools. She is also an award-winning Author, Grief Educator, Death Midwife and Reiki Master Teacher. She has three beautiful children and lives in Los Angeles, CA. She talks about the isolation she felt after her losses as well as the immense affect on her outlook on life and ultimately she took a completely new path. She discusses how she started down this path by allowing herself to be led from spirit. She discusses how reiki was a stronger tool for her - as she was using before her loss - but she also discusses how her spiritual connection became more dialed in and developed as well. She de-mystifies Reiki for us - us as basic laymen, AND we also dive a (little) deeper into energy healing and the whys and how's of it working. Energy is everywhere and it's everything. Once we accept it - harnessing energy is easy and it IS SO HEALING!!! This is a fun and enlightening conversation and Sharon has wisdom worth listening to! A premonition dream of her daughter's death was became reality in 2009 when Lynda Cheldelin Fell lost her third child, Aly, in a car accident. Shortly after, her husband suffered a stroke leaving him with permanent disabilities. This "double whammy" of grief brought Lynda to a place that she describes as "far more than the '5 Stages.'" At TTP we have noticed something we find very concerning: the number of death cases that are ruled as suicides with little or no investigation by the authorities. We are not simply talking about survivors of victims who don’t want to believe their loved one would have taken his or her own life. The cases we are talking about are more than mere “gut feelings.” These are incidents in which the survivors cite compelling evidence that there was a rush to judgement by the authorities in reaching the suicide conclusion. Joining us to discuss this issue will be Lynda Cheldelin Fell. Lynda is an award-winning author, the creator of the Grief Diaries books and Grief Diaries: Project Cold Case, and CEO of AlyBlue Media. Mary Lee Robinson and her husband had just relocated 11 months prior to their brand new home in the Low Country of the Carolinas. Her husband suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage and was gone at age 63. She hit the wall of loneliness and grieving at 90 mph. It was startling not only to her, but to the other story tellers that most people don’t have the faintest idea what to do for the bereaved. Strangers can be very kind, and familiar folks can be downright cruel. Grief is very poorly understood and not tolerated well in our culture. Not only has Mary Lee Robinson written books on the subject, as well as participating in the Grief Diaries anthology series, she started a movement, Set an Extra Plate, that encourages everyone to invite that person who may be alone on holidays to enjoy a meal with our families.
