Many of us are trying to disciple our children without the example of our own parents. Perhaps we came to faith through friends in our teens or adulthood, or the faith our parents have now is not one that they had when we were growing up. How do we nurture our kids' faith when we have no example to follow? How do we help them not to make the same mistakes we made? And what are the basics of family discipleship? Here to help us navigate these issues is writer Hope Bonarcher. Native New-Yorker Hope came to faith in her late 20s, after a life of drugs, alcohol and promiscuity. Her life was radically turned around by Jesus, and within a couple of years she was married with a baby! Hope now lives west of Glasgow with her Scottish husband and their four children, who she is currently homeschooling. The Star Wars fandom is highly vocal, with polarizing views that can be navigated respectfully. Iconic comics like X-Men's Dark Phoenix Saga and Savage Dragon have deeply impacted fans. Superman's new film is bringing practical effects back, evoking nostalgia for fans. Deadpool and Wolverine's use of iconic 90s music brings a unique charm to the movie. Star Wars Skeleton Crew aims to capture the adventurous spirit of the Goonies, appealing to both kids and adults. The closure of the Xbox 360 Marketplace marks the end of an era, prompting fond memories of games like Gears of War and Oblivion. Game Informer's legacy as a pioneer in video game journalism remains influential despite its closure. New D&D rules are being introduced with a focus on community feedback and adaptability. Memorable Quotes: Aaron: "The biggest thing about Fandom Portals is just the fact that it's really connected to social media and making social media social again." Squeaks: "I would say arguably PS2 was better than 360. I'm saying it." Frank: "The Xbox 360 was probably the best system ever, and they are closing down the marketplace for that." Like most parents, I hope my children will share my interests so we can enjoy them together. As a passionate upland hunter, I dream of days spent in the field nurturing their curiosity, instilling a desire for conservation, and fostering a profound respect and appreciation for the game birds we pursue. There's a special kind of magic and responsibility involved with welcoming young children into the world of upland hunting.  I often get asked, “When is the right time?” I believe it depends on many factors, primarily age and maturity, but it's important to understand there's no one-size-fits-all introduction to the uplands.

What You'll Hear In This Episode:- Communication differences surrounding certain phrases, such as “I need time alone” and "we need to talk"- Clarifying the meaning of commitment with each partner- Asking specific questions to understand expectations and intentions- Regular communication and clarification to avoid misunderstandings- Importance of discussing expectations and desires for building a deeper connection- Addressing potential issues and clarifying intentions early on- Recognizing signs of a potential mismatch in commitment levels- Importance of addressing concerns and desires to avoid future hurt and disappointment- Men also need space for personal growth and processing, similar to women- Seriousness for men may involve consistency and integrating each other into daily routines, not necessarily long-term plans- Differences in views on moving in together- Importance of open communication and taking time to be sure before making such big decisions- Highlighting the need for communication and understanding differing perspectives in a relationshipKey quotes:"When most women tell a man they want to ‘take it slowly,' they are saying they want to build a strong emotional foundation before having sex. They want deep meaningful conversations and to build the emotional intimacy first. For men, taking it slowly often means NOT having intimate talks that go too deep." – Lisa Shield“When a woman hears the phrase 'I need some space,' it can trigger catastrophic thinking and tap into her insecurities, causing her to question the stability of the relationship. On the other hand, for some men, being in a serious relationship may simply mean integrating each other into their daily routines and getting to know each other better, without necessarily signaling long-term plans or commitments." — Lisa Shield“It is good to have a conversation to clarify what you mean by certain phrases. You can say, ‘Hey, ________, I know that we said we're in a committed relationship, and I also know that being in a committed relationship, that word can have different meanings for different people. I would love to hear what it means for you.'” — Lisa ShieldContinue On Your Journey: Lisa Shield | YouTube | Facebook | Instagram | Book a Call With LisaEmail the podcast at: podcast@lisashield.com

In this conversation, I talk with Cami Hawkins, CEO of Marathon Kids, about getting kids to fall in love with running. Marathon Kids is a national organization that has the mission to show kids through running that they can achieve more than they ever thought possible and be on the path to healthier lives. Marathon Kids has served over 2.5 million kindergarten through 5th graders in its 25 years and hopes to continue to do so for the next 25 years. With this conversation, I have 3 goals: 1. Bring awareness to the great work of Marathon Kids to get kids active, an organization that I have been work with directly for the last 17 years. I now serve as Board Chair and am a parent to 3 Marathon Kids.   2. Provide tips on how to get your kids to fall in love with running while also building their fitness in a healthy and sustainable way. 3. Ask for your support of the organization. During the week of January 25th, I am going to cover 104.8 walking and running miles in order to raise awareness and fundraise for the cause. I would love for you to support my goal to raise $20,000 to help fund the next generation of Marathon Kids.  Give the gift of running and donate to the cause here: https://app.hellofund.com/view/fundraiser/BZ6u6m6ukYn All proceeds are tax deductible and go directly to Marathon Kids to be used to support their mission.

Not too long ago it was common for firearms to be in nearly every home.  Firearms were respected and had a purpose, usually for hunting to provide food for the family.  With changing times, society, and increased urbanization, fewer families had to rely upon hunting their own food to survive.  Today, kids may not have that exposure to firearms as kids did in the past.  Children need to be taught the safe handling and rules regarding firearms by removing the anomaly or taboo surrounding them.  Learning about firearms strengthens life lessons, not only to keep themselves safe in their own home with firearm, but also teach them how to be safe when outside of the home.   It is our job as parents and mentors to ensure we do all we can to educate our youth about our 2nd Amendment and the safe and responsible use of firearms. Even if you are raising kids and do not own firearms of your own, your kids WILL be exposed to firearms one day.  It is best to educate them the proper way when they are young, or sign up for a class offered by trained individuals, so the mystery and curiosity around  firearms is removed and replaced with knowledge and training.
