Cara introduces you to the magic of doing less. These gentle no-frills instructions get right to the heart of meditation practice.About Cara Lai:Cara Lai spent most of her life trying to figure out how to be happy, or at least avoid total misery, which landed her on a meditation cushion for the majority of her adulthood. Throughout many consciousness adventures including a few mind-bendingly long meditation retreats, she has explored the wilderness of the mind, chronic illness, the importance of pleasure, and a wide range of other things that she might get in trouble for mentioning publicly. In the past, Cara has worked as an artist, wilderness guide, social worker and psychotherapist, but at this point she's given up on being an adult in exchange for an all-out mindfulness rampage. He is well loved and respected for his inspirational work at Challenge Day during the school year where he facilitates social and emotional learning workshops for thousands of young people all over the country. Enrique's skill with teens has led to teaching internationally for Inward Bound Mindfulness Education. Their programs that teach the skills we have been talking about on this podcast like self-awareness, compassion, ethical decision-making, hold retreats across the US, Canada and United Kingdom.Mick is a long-time mindfulness and meditation practitioner and clinical social worker. As a result of 20 years of personal practice Mick has experienced the profound benefits of mindfulness. He realizes that we have a great capacity to connect deeply with our full selves and others. Through dedicated practice we can transform the way that we relate to ourselves, those closest to us, and the world. With his rich background as a therapist, former schoolteacher and coach, Mick brings a wide range of skills and dedication to helping young people on their journey of self-exploration. Since 2011 he has formally taught mindfulness to teens in schools, on retreats and weekly groups.Welcome Mick, thank you for taking the time out of your day to share more about mindfulness, meditation and the philopophy of iBme.Q1: Can you define what “mindfulness” is since this term is used so often these days. Everyone seems to have an idea or thought about what mindfulness programs are.Q2: Can you explain why mindfulness is so important for young people (and adults) to develop especially these days where anxiety and depression are at an all-time high?Q3: How does your retreat work compared to someone using an app like Calm or a guided meditation? Can you explain a bit about your process? (I can see a calendar on your website.)[ii] Can you explain how your retreats work?Q4: Can you explain what the research[iii] says about mindfulness programs? What are the long-term effects of the retreat practice of meditation and mindfulness? 3 months after the retreat, what did the participants notice? And also, would someone receive similar benefits if they just started their own mindfulness practice at home?Q5: I have heard Jon Kabat Zinn who I know has worked with your organization mention that “the real meditation is with how we live our lives.”[iv] –meaning how we change from being stressed, rushed, to being calmer and more present. What parting thoughts would you like to leave us with about how to get started with a meditation program in our daily lives (perhaps from a parent point of view, student, or someone in the workplace) so anyone can learn how to go from knowing to doing, and reap of the benefits of a mindfulness program.Thank you so much Mick for sharing your extensive knowledge in this field. If anyone wants to learn more about you and the programs at iBMe, they can go to ibme.com. The Houston Midtown Chapter of The Society for Financial Awareness Presents MONEY MATTERS with Christopher Hensley

When preparing for standardized tests, most students only study content and strategy. But teacher and mindfulness expert Logan Thompson claims that those are just the tip of the iceberg. Beyond the Content shows readers how to use mindfulness to identify and cope with hindering thoughts and emotions--what author Logan Thompson calls "passengers." Thompson says that while mindfulness is already practiced in businesses, colleges, and professional sports to optimize performance, it's long overdue in test prep.  Logan Thompson scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT(R), GRE(R), and GMAT(R). He has studied and practiced mindfulness since 2008. After earning his MBA from Vanderbilt University, Thompson lived at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA, for two and a half years, spending several months in silent mindfulness retreats. He also completed a two-year mindfulness teacher-training program by Inward Bound Mindfulness Education. Thompson holds a master's of education in human development and psychology from Harvard University and is an adjunct psychology professor. He has spend the past several years teaching both mindfulness and test prep for Manhattan Prep.    Beyond the Content is available wherever books are sold.   Follow Logan Thompson: twitter.com/loganjthompson instagram.com/loganjthompson facebook.com/loganjthompson1 Website: loganjthompson.com   To learn more about Houston Money Week visit: www.Houstonmoneyweek.org   http://www.cheatsheet.com/personal-finance/how-schools-can-improve-their-personal-finance-education.html/ Financial Advisor Magazine Articles: http://www.fa-mag.com/news/advisors-stay-the-course-amid-monday-s-market-drop-22864.html?section=3  http://www.fa-mag.com/news/on-it-s-80th-anniversaryadvisors-consider-social-security-s-impactfuture-22784.html?section=3 You can listen live by going to www.kpft.org and clicking on the HD3 tab. “There is hope. After everything, you are able to survive. Listen to people, ask for help, receive the help. That would be the message… to receive the help. Take it when it’s being offered.” Reeta Kroner took the stage at CreativeMornings/Helsinki in June 2016 to speak on the global theme of Broken. Reeta shares how alcoholism sent her life into a spiral and why she had to break the person she had become. Being honest and facing our pain is the only way to start building a new life. Is there anything broken in your life? Reeta encourages us to ask and receive help to fix it. Made possible by Inward Bound Mindfulness Education and MailChimp.
