A Moment In Crime is presenting a three part episode - The Patron - which looks back at the life and crimes of disgraced knight and serial sex attacker James Hay Wallace. Until his spectacular fall from grace, the Auckland rich lister was considered one of the biggest supporters of New Zealand film and art. Wallace was respected, revered and his help, guidance and money was sought after by many in the arts world. But behind the money and resplendence, Wallace was a serial sex offender who lured men to his mansion on the premise of discussing funding proposals or helping with projects or careers and abused them when they least expected it.  Wallace's case took years to resolve with multiple trial dates - one delayed, one aborted and the case then moved to the High Court at Auckland. A Moment In Crime - The Patron tells the story of Wallace's life, crimes, court case and the impact it had on the victims and wider community across three episodes.  Thanks to NZ Herald' senior journalist Sam Hurley for his contributions to this episode. No Clue by James Hay audiobook. “No Clue! A Mystery Story” finds detective Jefferson Hastings at the home of wealthy but eccentric Arthur Sloane one hot summer night, when two other guests at Sloanehurst stumble across the body of young Mildred Brace lying dead on the lawn. Sloane's daughter Lucille asks Hastings to help solve the crime, but Hastings gets surprisingly little help from anybody he interviews, including Mr. Sloane himself and even the mother of the victim. With few clues to aid him and nobody beyond suspicion, including himself, seemingly rock solid alibis begin to fall apart, expanding the list of potential suspects, and Hastings must rely on subtle expressions and the scant evidence at hand to try to solve the murder.

According to the Pension Scams Industry Group, a voluntary body of providers and trade associations, around 40,000 pension holders may have been defrauded in one way or another and up to £10 billion may have been lost in pension scams. These figures sound pretty bad, however, the People's Pension has crunched its own numbers and found that 1 in 200 adults in the UK – that's around a quarter of a million savers – may have lost retirement savings to fraud. They also estimate that the total cost of this could be more in the region of £14.6 billion. So, whoever's data we use, we are talking some about pretty big numbers. Damian Smyth, Head of Sales at James Hay, is joined by Neil MacGillivray, Head of Technical Support, to discuss pension scams and what we can all do to help run the scammers out of town. In part one of this podcast special, Neil defines what a pension scam is and the issues pension scams pose. *For professional advisers and paraplanners only *

This week, reporter Amy Austin talks to two advisers who have remained in the market: Alistair Cunningham of Wingate Financial Planning and Dominic James Murray of Cameron James. They discuss how their firms have managed to remain in the DB transfer market, what impact the contingent charging could have, the role abridged advice could play and what it means for clients if the market continues to shrink. Then, Amy talks to reporters Imogen Tew and Rachel Mortimer about James Hay's decision to buy Nucleus and the Treasury select committee's investigation into the London Capital & Finance scandal. The FTAdviser Podcast is the weekly podcast for financial advisers, brought to you by FTAdviser. #004 Predicting the Future of COVID-19 Using Epidemiological Models — Dr James Hay (Computational Epidemiologist at Harvard School of Public Health)

Curious about how the UK made the decision to the lock the country down? It was made using epidemiological models. One research team has been particularly influential in their response — the Imperial College team led by Professor Neil Ferguson. Their model predicted that an unchecked COVID-19 epidemic would overwhelm the NHS and result in 500,000 UK deaths. They suggested that we may need to have some form of social distancing for 12 out of the next 18 months. More recently, an Oxford University team led by Professor Sunetra Gupta published their own model. Any model on covid-19 has to make some assumptions — Imperial looked at the deaths we've had in the UK and assumed that COVID-19 hadn't infected much of the UK, but had quite a high death rate. Oxford assumed the opposite — they constructed a model which assumed that COVID-19 had infected most of the population, but had a relatively low death rate. This was picked up in news outlets such as the Financial Times — “Coronavirus may have infected half of UK population“. To find out how these types of COVID-19 models work, what their limitations are and how we should interpret them — I called up Dr James Hay — who's a computational epidemiologist at the Harvard's School of Public Health. For the record, this conversation was recorded on the 31st March 2020. Imperial COVID-19 Model: Impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) to reduce COVID- 19 mortality and healthcare demand. https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/imperial-college/medicine/sph/ide/gida-fellowships/Imperial-College-COVID19-NPI-modelling-16-03-2020.pdf Oxford COVID-19 Model: Fundamental principles of epidemic spread highlight the immediate need for large-scale serological surveys to assess the stage of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.24.20042291v1 Financial Times article mentioning Oxford model: https://www.ft.com/content/5ff6469a-6dd8-11ea-89df-41bea055720b

The Celtic Graves Society are proud to announce a ceremony to commemorate the final resting place of the Celtic captain JAMES HAY At Ayr Cemetery, Holmston Road, Ayr KA7 3BE On Saturday 17th June 2017 at 2pm "Touch combined with strength ... neat stride ground passes ... lion-hearted defence vigorous tackler ... shoulder-work ... full of punch" These are words used to describe Jimmy 'Dun' Hay by the Scotland goalkeeper of the time, Jimmy Brownlie. The Ayrshire born left-half combined immense strength with subtle skill as a stalwart of Willie Maley's legendary side which won six Scottish League Championships in a row between 1905 and 1910. A man who could combine immense strength, skill and leadership qualities would be the Captain of five of these Championship-winning sides between the years 1906-1911. He would also become Scotland Captain for three of his 11 international caps and lead out a Scotland team in 1910 versus England at Goodison Park, Liverpool. Hay signed for Celtic for a fee of £50 from English side Glossop in March 1903 and made his senior competitive debut in a 2-1 home league victory over Partick Thistle on August 15th of that year. He would go on to make 255 appearances for Celtic, scoring a total of 17 goals. He would leave Celtic Park for Newcastle United on the 27th of July 1911, after a benefit game when the Celtic board refused to meet his demands for an improved contract. It was a rather sad end to his Celtic career but in his eight years in Paradise, Jimmy 'Dun' Hay showed time and time again that he was a great player, a great leader and a great Celtic Captain. He was suspended for life for refusing an apology, after accusing a director of Ayr United and the Treasurer of the Scottish Football Association of trying to bribe a referee in 1926. He was later reinstated but subsequently played no major role in the game with which he had been involved for 30 years. Scottish League Champion 6 times: 1904-05, 1905-06, 1906-07, 1907-08, 1908-09, 1909-10 Scottish Cup Winner 4 times: 1904, 1907, 1908, 1911 For more information on Celtic Graves Society please visit www.celticgraves.com where donations to the work of Celtic Graves Society can be made.
