BREAK: INGLES 7 STORY 1: Cobb, Marietta teaching excellence pays off — in horsepower This week, two of Cobb County’s best teachers got the surprise of a lifetime—a brand-new car to drive for a year. In a tradition that never gets old, the Cobb Chamber, with help from Voyles Automotive Group, handed out free one-year car leases at their monthly luncheon. Hailey Howdyshell, a first-grade teacher at Hickory Hill Elementary, drove off in a sleek Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, while Amanda Dillard, a special ed teacher at Pope High, snagged a Kia Telluride. Other honorees? Caleb Garrett (Compton Elementary) got a Honda Passport, and Lakeisha Gray (Betty Gray Middle) scored a Jeep Wrangler. Teachers, you deserve it. STORY 2: Nathan Deal calls for civility, bipartisanship Former Gov. Nathan Deal didn’t hold back this week when he spoke to the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, urging lawmakers to ditch the shouting matches and rediscover bipartisanship. In a candid chat with Superior Plumbing CEO Jay Cunningham, Deal reflected on how politics has changed—and not for the better. “It used to be you had to prove you could govern,” he said. “Now, it’s just about who yells the loudest and raises the most money.” Deal, who led Georgia from 2011 to 2019, highlighted his bipartisan work on criminal justice reform, calling it “the right thing,” not a political win. Before wrapping up, Deal shared a personal project: his children’s book, Veto the Governor’s Cat, inspired by his late wife, Sandra. “Kids listen to animals more than adults sometimes,” he joked. The book teaches lessons on courage, patience, and embracing differences. Cunningham called Deal “a man of humility and integrity,” thanking him for his service to Georgia. STORY 3: GMDT’s The Nutcracker will be Thanksgiving weekend The Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre is bringing the magic of The Nutcracker back to Marietta this holiday season, with performances Nov. 28-30 at the Jennie T. Break: STRAND THEATRE STORY 4: Smyrna man accused of DUI after crash leaves driver seriously injured Eriberto Cante, 25, of Smyrna, is facing serious charges after a crash on Oct. 12 at the intersection of Church Street and N. Marietta Parkway. Police say Cante, driving a blue 2003 Toyota Rav4, ran a red light and was hit on the passenger side by another car with the right of way. The collision, caught on Cobb County’s Real Time Crime Center cameras, left a man unconscious with a brain bleed and fractured ribs. Officers reported smelling alcohol on Cante, who admitted to drinking five Modelo beers earlier. His blood alcohol level? A staggering .234. He also didn’t have a valid license. Cante was arrested Oct. 24 and released three days later on a $15,000 bond. STORY 5: Pro women's soccer team could be headquartered in Marietta Arthur Blank, the billionaire behind Atlanta United and the Falcons, is reportedly bringing an NWSL expansion team to Atlanta, according to The Athletic. The price tag? A record $165 million. The team, set to debut after the 2026 season, will play at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, just like Blank’s other teams. But will it call Marietta home? Atlanta United’s $90 million training facility on Franklin Gateway seems like a natural fit. With six fields, a podcast studio, and plans for hydrotherapy rooms, it’s already top-notch. Plus, Blank owns extra land nearby—plenty of room to grow. Marietta Councilman Johnny Walker is hopeful. “It’d be a win-win,” he said. Break: STORY 6: Mayor Tumlin reelected as Cobb County certifies tight race It’s official: Steve “Thunder” Tumlin will stay Marietta’s mayor, edging out challenger Sam Foster by just 89 votes. The Cobb County Board of Elections certified the Nov. 4 results Monday, locking in Tumlin’s 50.3% to Foster’s 49.7%. Close? Absolutely. Turnout was low—just 24.9% of Cobb’s 565,686 eligible voters showed up. Most voted on Election Day, but Acting Elections Director Michael D’Itri noted a few hiccups: abandoned ballots, long lines at Thompson Community Center, and a handful of discrepancies. “It was a tough day,” D’Itri admitted, but praised poll workers for pulling it off. Runoffs for Marietta City Council Wards 3 and 5 are set for Dec. 2. Early voting starts Nov. 22. STORY 7: Braves complete coaching staff, retain Hyers, Perez The Atlanta Braves shook up their coaching staff Tuesday, announcing a mix of familiar faces and fresh hires for Walt Weiss’ first year at the helm. Tim Hyers is back as hitting coach for his second season, and Eddie Perez—yes, the 1999 NLCS MVP—is returning for his 37th year with the organization. That’s loyalty. New faces? Tommy Watkins takes over as third base coach after years with the Twins, Dustin Garneau steps in as catching coach, and Darnell Coles joins as assistant hitting coach, bringing over a decade of experience. Tony Diaz rounds out the group as a major league coach. Oh, and Tony Mansolino, originally hired as third base coach, will now serve as Weiss’ bench coach. Big moves all around. Antonio de la Torre encarna con su habitual magnetismo a un buzo veterano que, junto a su hermana -una impecable Bárbara Lennie-, se enfrenta al límite físico y moral de su oficio cuando descubren un alijo de cocaína en un petrolero hundido. A partir de ahí, el director construye un relato de atmósfera opresiva, cargado de tensión y verdad, que combina el pulso del cine de género con una mirada profundamente humana al sacrificio y la precariedad laboral. Min 14 CUERPOS LOCOS (1 estrella) La directora Ana Murugarren se adentra en el terreno de la comedia familiar con Cuerpos Locos, un relato construido sobre el clásico intercambio de identidades que esta vez enfrenta a una niña de diez años, Ana, y su futura madrastra, Sara. Javier Riaño Sierra, de IronIA Fintech, analiza las carteras modelo con composiciones históricas. “La cartera modelo te permite configurar una cartera con los fondos y programar una aportación periódica”, asegura el invitado. Sobre esta particularidad de la composición histórica, el experto señala que “los clientes pidieron que permitieran composiciones históricas y ver cómo se ha comportado la cartera en la historia”. Además, destaca que “antes había una aplicación de terceros que tenía esa funcionalidad y que permitía a la gente hacer un seguimiento de carteras que había en otras entidades, quería hacer un seguimiento global”. También permiten, según él, “subir los ficheros de forma cómoda a través de un excel”. ¿Qué más funcionalidades tienen estas carteras modelo con composiciones históricas? “Pueden presentarse a las distintas competiciones que hacemos”, afirma el integrante de IronIA Fintech. ¿Se repiten patrones que los inversores puedan aprovechar? El invitado explica que “hay mucha diversidad, hay gente que apuesta mucho a sectores, hay una diversidad enorme”. ¿Cuál es el perfil de inversor que usa este tipo de servicio? “La tipología de clientes que tenemos en IronIA Fintech es absoluta, hay carteras conservadoras, carteras agresivas, tenemos un perfil de cliente formado e informado que ve la renta variable como el activo más rentable a largo plazo”, afirma Javier Riaño Sierra. ¿Cómo afecta la volatilidad y cómo se adapta a ella este tipo de carteras modelo? El experto señala que “lo bueno de la modelo es que es una carta virtual, se puede usar como una box list, se puede ir viendo cómo se comportan esos fondos de los que el cliente hacen el seguimiento”. ¿Cómo puede empezar el cliente a empezar a invertir en esas carteras modelo? “Dentro de la plataforma, una vez que estés registrado, hay una opción que es configurar mi cartera modelo y si puede hacer desde el carrito, desde los planes e incluso con una guía para poder configurar esta cartera modelo con composiciones históricas”, asegura el invitado.

Hoy vamos a hablar de un tema que me parece clave para entender no solo el presente sino, sobre todo, el futuro inmediato del automóvil. Vamos a responder a dos preguntas aparentemente sencillas: ¿Qué significa hoy en día "Made in Europe"? ¿Qué significa "Made in China"? Olvídate de todo lo que creíais saber, porque las viejas etiquetas ya no sirven. Y ahora, vamos con los “euro-chinos”. Porque la “paternidad” de los coches, fruto de las alianzas, cada vez es menos clara. Una nueva generación de automóviles está conquistando nuestras carreteras. Son coches nacidos de esas alianzas que hace apenas una 5 o 10 años nos habrían parecido ciencia ficción. La unión “euro-china” tiene sus ventajas, pues por un lado tienes tradición, ingeniería y diseño de Europa con el músculo financiero y la increíble agilidad productiva de China. Y que nadie se confunda: hoy no hablamos de copias, ni de imitaciones baratas. Hablamos de una fusión estratégica y, por lo general, inteligente que está redibujando por completo el mapa mundial del motor. Todavía hoy cuando escuchamos "coche chino", nos viene a la cabeza la imagen de un producto de calidad dudosa. Y esto está cambiando a toda velocidad. El desembarco de las marcas chinas en Europa no es una simple invasión comercial al uso: Va más allá, es me atrevo a decir, más peligrosa. Es un movimiento sutil y brillante, porque los gigantes industriales chinos han entendido que para conquistar el exigente mercado occidental no basta con ofrecer un precio bajo. Se necesita diseño, tecnología punta, una seguridad incuestionable y, todavía hoy, sigue ayudando mucho una marca de confianza, una tradición, una historia, un ADN. ¿Y dónde se encuentra todo eso en abundancia? Exacto, en Europa. Por otro lado, marcas europeas con décadas de historia, algunas de ellas en dificultades e incluso al borde de la desaparición, han encontrado en el capital chino el salvavidas que necesitaban. Pero no ha sido un simple rescate. Ha sido una inyección masiva de recursos con la idea de reinventarse y posicionarse como líderes en la nueva era eléctrica. Para hacerlo más fácil, vamos a dividir este fenómeno en tres grandes categorías: Primero, las joyas de la corona europeas que ahora tienen un pasaporte chino. Segundo, las nuevas marcas chinas que han nacido y crecido con un cerebro y un alma de diseño europeo. Y tercero, los matrimonios de conveniencia más recientes, donde dos gigantes se unen para crear una nueva generación de vehículos. Para mí no todo han sido aciertos… hay de todo. Nosotros te lo contamos y tu juzgas. ¡Vamos allá! Categoría 1: Legado europeo con corazón oriental. Aquí es, quizás, donde encontramos las historias más potentes. Lotus. De la ligereza al Hiper-SUV Eléctrico. MG. El Renacer del icono británico. Volvo y Polestar. Modelo de éxito. Categoría 2: Marcas chinas con cerebro europeo. BYD. El gigante que fichó a las estrellas. Lynk & Co. El “Netflix” del automóvil. Categoría 3: Matrimonios de Conveniencia… Smart. Revolución Germano-China. Stellantis y Leapmotor. Un “balón de oxígeno”. ¿Vendrás más? Volvo, MG, Lotus... la lista crece. Y seguirá creciendo. Como veis, el panorama del automóvil ha cambiado para siempre. Ya no se trata de dónde se ensambla la última tuerca, sino de dónde provienen el capital, la tecnología, el diseño y la estrategia. Esta fusión "euro-china" está acelerando la transición eléctrica y aumentando la competencia, lo cual es bueno para nosotros. Surgen muchas preguntas: ¿Es menos europeo un Volvo por tener un dueño chino que ha potenciado su herencia? ¿Es menos chino un BYD por haber sido diseñado por un alemán? Las etiquetas son cada vez más difusas, los estereotipos desaparecen. Hay dos cosas que importan. Una, el producto final. Y muchos de estos coches "euro-chinos" son productos y muy competitivos. Y dos, ¿Dónde van a parar los beneficios? Este asunto, a futuro, es también muy importante… la preponderancia de las marcas europeas y japonesas, está llamada a desaparecer. Conclusión. El concepto de coche "nacional" se va desvaneciendo. Marcas históricas europeas sobreviven gracias a esta unión, mientras que nuevas marcas chinas conquistan nuestro mercado adoptando un alma europea. Esta fusión está acelerando la electrificación… si es bueno o malo, lo veremos con el tiempo.
