Her intent was to bring together professionals from both sides of the discussion to posit the role of ABA in medical treatment, specifically for autistic individuals. This was recorded prior to the conference, but publication held till now. This is definitely an imperial oatmeal stout with robust notes of coffee and chocolate--a lot to take in and digest. Pour heavy, drink slowly, and always analyze responsibly.
In this episode, we sit down with Jennifer Fitzpatrick to explore the growing divide in the ABA community and how collaboration can bring us together. From standardization to supporting ethical ABA practices, this conversation is packed with valuable insights for ABA business owners and practitioners alike.

Patient Experience Best Practices That Every Business Must Do Shep Hyken interviews Jennifer FitzPatrick, founder of Jenerations Health Education and author of Reimagining Customer Service in Healthcare: Boost Loyalty, Profits, and Outcomes. She talks about how organizations can de-escalate complaints, reduce malpractice claims, and promote better healthcare outcomes by improving patient experience. Top Takeaways: We go to healthcare providers to address a big problem; our health. Some healthcare practitioners know how to treat symptoms and illnesses; however, they are falling short of making the patients feel like they are human beings with respect and dignity. When patients receive great customer service from their healthcare providers, not only do they provide better reviews, fewer complaints, and malpractice claims, but they also have better clinical outcomes. Patients are not just comparing their healthcare providers with other healthcare providers. They compare their experiences in the healthcare world with the best customer service they received from anyone in other industries. Healthcare must recognize younger generations of employees (GenZ and Millennials) are expressing themselves differently than GenX or Boomers. Instead of focusing on external factors like the color of someone's hair or whether they have tattoos or piercings, identify the top qualities that truly matter to your patient's care. Are they compassionate, intelligent, kind, and reliable? Nobody wants to engage with the healthcare system. On a pain scale of zero to 10, most patients come in because they are at a seven or higher. Find ways to make the experience less painful for them, like setting the right expectations, providing updates, and not making them repeat the same information over and over again when it is not necessary. Plus, Shep and Jennifer discuss what is more important in choosing a healthcare provider, expertise or bedside manner. Tune in! Quote: "Train your people to do the right thing for your patients or customers, don't assume they know. Make sure that anybody who comes into contact with the patient and the patient's family members, from doctors to billing and housekeeping, are properly trained on customer service." Getting Beyond Burnout When You Are Barely Hanging On As a Caregiver Adult caregivers, you can avoid burnout as you care for your loved one. It's sure not easy and, often, we forget to care for ourselves in the process. “Honor your father and mother,” in Exodus 20:12 is a commandment with a promise. The Lord shares that if we honor our parents, our days may be long in the land He gives us. Being a caregiver of your own parents or an aging adult is both a labor of love and a responsibility. The task comes with many stressors that affect your mental and emotional health, your ability to relax, sleep well and overall quality of life. Often, your own finances are affected as is your work/life balance and time with your immediate family, perhaps your own children. Join Charlotte and Carole Jeanne Runnels, R.N. as they talk about caring for yourself in the process of caregiving while ensuring your loved one receives the best possible care. Carole Jeanne is a committed Christ-follower, a dear friend of Charlotte's, and lovingly cared for her mother, father, aunt and uncle for 12 years into their end-stages of life. Her nursing career of 38 years included serving as an oncology nurse, an educational programs coordinator and as a school nurse. Caregiving is hard. Yet it is priceless time to help your loved ones finish out their lives well. Keeping your spiritual tank full, involving Christian community and finding small things that bring you joy are helpful as is taking the scenic route and remembering the fullness of your aging adult's life. Carole Jeanne suggests sharing the freedom that comes from the ability to discuss everything and to serve as your loved ones advocate. Tapping in to community resources and offering yourself a bit of grace will help you “do the next right thing” as you care for your loved one. Tune in to hear more from this insightful conversation. These scriptures helped Carole Jeanne and they can help you: “The Joy of the Lord is my strength,” Nehemiah 8:10 “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Phil. 4:13. End of Life Costs Aging Americans are struggling to pay for assisted living, home care and other forms of long term care. The average American family caregiver is spending thousands of dollars each year on household, medical and other expenses for a loved one. It's no fun to lie awake worrying. But if you have elderly parents or other family members living alone, that's often what you do, especially as time goes on and you know they aren't fully able to take care of themselves anymore. Your first thought may be of a nursing home or assisted living, but many seniors feel strongly about staying in their homes and aging in place. How much does it all cost? Driving Restrictions for Seniors Older drivers arenâ??t giving up their right to drive, which begs the question; should there be unified statewide testing across the board for drivers over the age of 65? Jennifer FitzPatrick, Generations Expert, Gerontologist and Author of "Cruising Through Caregiving: Reducing The Stress of Caring For Your Loved Oneâ?? touches on the delicate task of talking to seniors about no longer driving. She helps us to understand the loss of freedom and independence that seniors feel when they can no longer drive. She also offers different transportation options for seniors so that they arenâ??t solely reliable on a caregiver to get them where they need to go. * What is the best way to approach this topic with our aging parents? * Should we retest older drivers and if so, at what age should they be retested? * Should car insurance rates drastically increase for older drivers as they do for teenage drivers? * What made you become an advocate for the senior community? HR Happy Hour - Episode 65 - 'Tomorrow's HR Today' Thursday September 16, 2010 8PM EDT The future is a funny thing, no matter how much we seem to worry, prepare, and plan, it always kind of sneaks up on us, and before we know it, Bam!- it's smacking us upside the head. Perhaps it's because inside organizations and as leaders and HR professionals we get caught up in the day to day, burdened or even overwhelmed by outdated processes, tired information systems, and rigid, inflexible structures and hierarchies that may have served a noble purpose in the past, but now seem to keep us stuck and unable to do the important and interesting work we know we are capable of. We know we have to get smarter, more nimble, and better able to react to changing conditions in the external marketplace, as well as in the management of organizational information and unleashing of internal talent. It would be hard to argue those points, and while we know them to be true, the trick is how to go about making the changes needed, and as leaders and HR professionals how to raise our games to deliver on these objectives. Better technology, more business-savvy HR teams, and deeper understanding of how to tie employee efforts with personal and organizational goals - those are some of the keys to unlocking the future, and they will be what we will discuss this week on the show with our special guests Leighanne Levensaler, Vice President of HCM Strategy at Workday, and Jennifer Fitzpatrick, Director HR & Talent Management at Chiquita Brands International. Leighanne and Jennifer not only know the talk, but they know how to deliver, and they will share their insights and expertise to help you understand how to enable 'Tomorrow's HR Today'. I hope you can join us.
