Hi friend! Are you hosting for the holidays this year? Maybe it's your first time ever or you're an old hat, but want to be prepared ahead of time instead of playing catch up.  Or maybe...you've hesitated hosting because you don't like what your guests will be seeing once they come inside.  In this five week mini series, I'll be guiding you through your home holiday preparedness plan. Week by week we'll be focusing on a new goal for our home and with focused attention, we'll be guest ready with a clean, organized, stylish home that is fit for even the pickiest (or nosiest) of guests. Not only will you be getting your home in order, but this mini series will teach you how to decorate a table as beautiful as the food you will be spending hours preparing.  In today's episode (and the focus of this week), we are talking about decluttering. Our focus will be to declutter areas that our guests will be privy to: living room, kitchen, dining room, guest bedroom and bathrooms - as well as the pantry and refrigerator. Why declutter before the holidays? Clutter is chaos and the visual over stimulation of your visual chaos ties directly to your stress level. Removing AS MUCH STRESS as you can before hosting extra people, making extra food, engaging in sometimes interesting conversations lightens the load before the load gets heavy.  You will not be able to control the conversations at the dinner table and which side of the political line Uncle Eddie is on, but you can control your clutter.  Using the three box method this week for every room in your home where guests will have access to, will set you up for a stress free holiday.  Three Box Method for Decluttering:  1. Get three boxes or bags 2. Label them: donate, trash and relocate (bonus: you can also have one for recycle) 3. Do one guest accessible room at a time (start small to big, big to small, easy to hard, etc).  4. Choose a companion (podcast, audiobook, TV show) and let that companion be your timer 5. Give yourself a 'carrot' or reward for each room finished. Allow yourself to complete one room/area per day. 6. Apply the one-touch rule: you touch each item one time and place it into one of the boxes The DONATE bag goes directly into the car for delivery.  The TRASH (and RECYCLE) bag goes directly.  The RELOCATE bag gets emptied out and items placed categorically for more efficient put-away.  Do you NEED or WANT help decluttering? Decorating SOS Coaching Calls are designed to help you make your space beautiful - and making your space beautiful isn't always about what you bring IN. Often times decluttering is the FIRST thing that needs to happen, but the thing that is most overlooked. What if your holiday plans could go off without a hitch thanks to perfect weather? Tune in as I, meteorologist Steve Pelletier, bring you some fantastic news about the upcoming weather for the first week of July 2024. Expect clear skies and sunshine to dominate the northeastern U.S., with a high-pressure system ensuring beautiful weather from northern Maine all the way down to the Carolinas. While coastal Massachusetts may see a brief impact from an upper-level trough, it's smooth sailing for the rest of the week, including a warm and sunny Independence Day.But that's not all—we'll take a national perspective to ensure your travel plans are just as seamless. Discover why major airline hubs like Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, and Minneapolis-St. Paul are looking great weather-wise, and how afternoon thunderstorms in Florida could affect your drive. From a dry and clear Western U.S. to potential showers in Houston, we've got every region covered. Don't miss this episode to make sure your holiday plans are weather-ready and stress-free. Join me next time for an updated forecast and enjoy your week! Here are more details Dangerously hot conditions will continue across the Southern Plains andLower Mississippi Valley, while simmering heat builds throughoutCalifornia's Central Valley starting Tuesday......Severe thunderstorm and heavy rain threat for the East Coast today; aModerate Risk for Excessive Rainfall has been posted for portions of theSoutheast coast for Monday......Showers and thunderstorms for the Four Corners/Southwest over the nextfew days; active weather pattern to produce some pre-Independence Dayfireworks in the Northern Plains and Midwest...As the calendar prepares to flip over to July today sweltering summerheat will be one of the top stories in the days leading up to IndependenceDay. To start the week, strong upper level high pressure over the Southwill be responsible for heat indices that range between 105-110F (locallyup to 115F) through Tuesday from the Southern Plains on east to the LowerMississippi Valley. Much of these regions have Excessive Heat Warnings andHeat Advisories that are in place through at least Monday. Meanwhile,California and Desert Southwest will gradually heat up as anotherimpressive upper level ridge of high pressure builds in over the northeastPacific on Tuesday. Daily record highs may be challenged in parts ofcentral California and heat indices in the Golden State's Great Valley mayapproach 105F. This approaching heat dome along the West Coast will likelybe a fixture for Californians and eventually for more residents along theWest Coast by Independence Day. On the flip side, following anoppressively hot Sunday in the Northeast, the strong cold frontresponsible for today's widespread shower and thunderstorm activity willusher in a more refreshing air-mass tonight. High pressure over the GreatLakes tomorrow is set to lock in pleasant weather across the northeasternU.S. through Tuesday. The other regions likely to experience cooler thannormal temperatures the first couple days of July are the Northern Rockiesand northern Great Plains as northwesterly flow keeps any excessive heatat bay in the short term.In terms of active weather, the evening will remain quite busy along andeast of I-95 this evening from southern New England on south to theMid-Atlantic states. The severe threat will conclude for interior parts ofthe Northeast this afternoon as the cold front races south and east. Somethunderstorms could be severe this evening, particularly from NorthCarolina to as far north as Maine where the Storm Prediction Center has aSlight Risk (threat level 2/5) in place. As we step into the festive season, we often find ourselves swept up in the whirlwind of holiday preparations. However, amidst the glittering lights and cheerful melodies, our sensitive dogs can sense our stress along with the change in their environment, sometimes reflecting it in their own behavior. This season, Kathy invites you to create a holiday 'green zone' – a sanctuary of calm and connection for both you and your beloved dogs. Creating this green zone starts with us, the devoted dog moms. When we acknowledge our own stress and take steps to manage it, we pave the way for a happier holiday experience for our furry family members. Remember, our dogs are incredibly attuned to our emotions. If we're frazzled, they feel it too. By taking a few simple steps to keep ourselves regulated, we help them stay balanced and calm.   Key takeaways: Less is more: our dogs don't need a picture-perfect holiday; they need a happy, connected, and stress-free family. Sensory overload makes dogs hyperactive, barky, anxious or easily triggered, so keep holiday decorating simple this year. Set up a cozy hideaway for your dog away from the action. It's their safe retreat for a peaceful escape during holiday gatherings.   LOVE TO LEARN MORE?  Become a calm and confident Dog Mom with a cooperative, happy dog ... without obedience training, or relying on treats or arousing games, or corrections of any type.    Here are some next steps:   SUBSCRIBE to Kathy's YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/DancingHeartsDogAcademy/videos   LISTEN or READ Kathy's Podcast and Blog on her Website: https://dancingheartsdogacademy.com/   GET STARTED work with Kathy: https://dancinghearts.link/foundation   LET'S CONNECT on the socials for more partnership tips and advice: -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dancinghearts/ -Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kathykawalec/   LISTEN TO PODCASTS: Subscribe to the Enlightened By Dogs podcast in your favorite app!
