Founder of Boy's Own and Junior Boys Own and an active part of Defected sub-label Faith, Terry Farley is a bonafide house legend. Teaming up with XOYO and Music Box Radio resident Wade Teo, the duo recruit New York-based spoken word artist Kameelah Waheed for a party-starting house cut on Radio Slave's Rekids. Terry Farley and Wade Teo team up with Kameelah Waheed to release their new track ‘Why We Dance' on the hugely respected Rekids imprint. The release is joined with two varied remixes that also make their way onto Radio Slave's legendary label. Some Rekids alumni include Carl Cox, Ian Pooley, Mark Broom, Hybrasil, Commix, X-Coast and many more.Across the A-side, robust drums, rocking low end, and piano stabs combine to provide the perfect backdrop for Kameelah Waheed's infectious vocal. This jackin' house track is a cleverly crafted production with a catchy hook and pulsating groove throughout. On the flip, Farley and Teo deliver their ‘Lonely Dancer Remix' to kick off the B-side, adding subtle percussions and floating pads for a grooving rework. Rounding out the release, Farley recruits Kevin Swain for the collaborative ‘Angels Take Control' remix, with dubbed-out claps, menacing low-end combining for a heads-down closing track. In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience. Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. I will be your slightly odd, slightly off-centre, guide. But ultimately and most importantly, your friendly on-line record shop assistant. April Track Listing 01. Soup Sessions 2100hrs (BST)! Welcome back to the Soup Sessions with Ashley Beedle x DJ, Producer, Musician, Gentleman Rudeboy! Ashley Beedle has been involved in more projects than a US building marshal. His style is as diverse as his hometown’s cultural crucible (London) and his productions have been championed by artists ranging from Danny Tenaglia to Fabio and Grooverider as well as Gilles Peterson to John Digweed. Where do we start in doing this man’s career justice in so few words? He brought house music to Notting Hill Carnival (with Shock Soundsystem), he produced one of the first British garage tunes and his initial production as Black Science Orchestra on Junior Boys Own broke him internationally. X-Press 2’s massive hit, “Lazy”, an inspired collaboration with former Talking Head David Byrne, and other number one hits has meant X-Press 2’s albums have traveled the globe and at the time of writing this they are currently number one on the US Billboard Club Breakouts chart, again. Ashley’s remixes have ranged from pop and rock bands, little house labels; hip hop mixes, house mixes; as a solo remixer, and as part of X-Press 2. There really are too many to mention, though Elton John’s number one hit “Are You Ready for Love?” and Bob Marley’s “Get Up Stand Up” spring to mind. House then and now with a true stalwart of UK dance music.
After a short break over the summer period spent basking in rays of sun we are back with our 18th instalment of the podcast series and a mix from a very special guest, Donga. The head honcho of Brighton based, Well Rounded Records has been collecting, listening and adoring vinyl for the majority of his life and fuelling this passion for vinyl is an unrelenting love of music. The result of such an infatuation is a very talented selector, memorable DJ sets and, here, some bluddy great blends. Throughout the summer Well Rounded have been hosting Friday nights at Brighton’s LIFE Club. The night begins at 10pm on the club’s terrace and it is those early, warming hours that Donga has chosen to showcase in this mix, providing a lovely progression to the mix. Memorable vocal tracks stand alongside slick house grooves throughout this hour journey – a very welcome return of the podcast! Largin’ up Well Rounded, always! Tracklist 1. Joeski steps up for Gangstercast 14 while his 'NY Raw' release (produced with Audio KoDe) for our label continues to do damage on the world's dance floors. The mix showcases Joeski at his best, with almost two hours of music including one of his favourite Latin infused summer joints. Joeski says he "went back to his roots" on the mix and that it "represents my culture and who i am as an artist". We hear that loud and clear at IAHG HQ! Talking about the I'm A House Gangster sound he says it's "raw, jackin, banging, hypnotic, deep in your face house music". We hear that loud and clear too! Raised in Corona, a large Spanish area in the borough of Queens, New York, Joeski started playing house parties in 1989 and hasn't looked back since, staying true to the underground house sound throughout. Building his reputation in the early 90's at New York clubs and events like The Limelight, NASA, Save The Robots, The Chocolate Factory and Together he was soon touring the world. After building his studio and honing the craft of production at the end of the 90's, he exploded into people's attention with a series of tracks and remixes on Siesta, Tango, Electric Sol and more. He also launched his own label Maya Records, which was highly sought after from the early releases thanks to his collaborations as part of 6400 Crew and outings with Onionz and D'Julz. The label welcomed guests like Chus + Ceballos, Tony Senghore and Nick & Danny Chatelain. The early success led to remix work for the likes of Sneaker Pimps, Dajaé, Delacy, Dirty Vegas, Medway and DJ Sneak, and collaborations with DJ Chus, John Creamer and Stephan K, Steve Smith (Dirty Vegas) and Matthias Heilbronn. The results have graced labels such as Hooj Choons, NRK, Ministry, Stealth and Junior Boys Own.

I had a week off recently and whilst digging around for tunes online I rediscovered a chunk of early remixes by Terry Farley and Pete Heller of Junior Boys Own fame. In the early 90s I was a big fan of their work under the Fire Island and Roach Motel monicas. This session pulls together some of my favourite FI/RM looped bassline grooves and brass stabs. We open in 1992 with Sunsreem’s classic Perfect Motion, slide through dubs of Juliet Roberts and Monie Love (two records I foggily recall mixing back-to-back continuously one morning after Flesh at the Hacienda), In Your Bones reminds me of dancing downstairs at Paradise Factory with Selina, and as one of the finest house tunes ever produced, Movin’ On has to be one of my Desert Island Discs.Transatlantic was a tune Ted used to play at post-Strangeways chill outs, and we close with a blissful Balearic take on New Order’s Regret - not a great dance floor moment, but a regular on the car stereo driving to work in my Key103 days. All this seems pretty fitting as Junior Boys Own hosted their own event in London last night (according to the Guardian Guide, their first in 16 years) and much of the catalogue is now reissued through Defected, although I’ve tried to steer around some of those more obvious classics. Most of the tunes are from ’92 - ’95 so I’ll also upload this to the Classic Archive podcast.
