Always eclectic, his selections joining the dots between styles and eras with skill and respect – never losing focus on the dancers. His latest release is no different. A djembe led future soul burner blessed by the legendary London vocalist Colonel Red's scorching voice. Sounding like a 90's R&B jam thrown into the future before morphing into a 3am dancefloor blazer - definitely one for all the freaks out there. The remix package is a massive shout to Edseven's varied tastes and influences, enlisting a murderers' row of friends and overseas contacts to reinterpret the original. Japan's Grooveman Spot providing a heavy heavy classic Jazzy Sport beatdown version whilst Canadian due Potatohead People flip it into a dripping 80's Boogie track. Local don's Inkswel and Setwun take their version even further from the original… Inkswel's broken space mix upping the tempo and pulling in Bruk / West London vibes and Setwun's refreak an acid tinged, ever-evolving broken beat piece.' Edseven Bio Armed with a unique ear, deep collection and a skill for combining diverse sounds, Sydney's edseven has built a solid reputation as a dj over the last decade as well as a producer/remixer and more recently as a promoter founding Lioness Presents. A collector of many styles, a typical Edseven dj set could include anything from Detroit Hip Hop to Nigerian Funk, UK Broken beat to Chicago House, Classic Soul to Future Beat and beyond. This musical range and the technical ability to hold it all together has seen edseven called upon to support international acts including Peanut Butter Wolf, Samiyam, El-P, IG Culture, Steve Spacek, Mark de Clive Lowe, Jose James, Mark Rae, Dj Spooky, Frank Booker, Recloose, Grooveman Spot, Domu, Quantic, Alice Russell, Boca 45, Raf Daddy, Pablo Valentino, Funkineven, James Pants etc... In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience.Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. I will be your slightly odd, slightly off-centre, guide. But ultimately and most importantly, your friendly on-line record shop assistant. 1. TUGBOAT EDITION - LOVE DANCING2. A few things I noticed from my year-end list - no berlin-school music, very little what I would call 'space' music, a fair amount of dusty, loop music like Maps & Diagrams or Tapes & Topographies, several guitar based albums like Dave Depper, Dave Nelson, SUSS, and Devendra Banhart, and lastly, a lot of modern classical/modern composition albums from Mastrokristo & Alapastel to Max Richter and Viktor Orri Árnason and Glåsbird. That collection of favorites is nothing new for me. I've been a big fan of that dusty, noisy, loop-based style for a long time & as modern composition has grown over the years, so has my interest. Although, I may need to dive back into spacey, droney ambient like the stuff in the stargazing mixes. I guess there's not much else to say for this post other than here is part 2 of my favorite ambient albums of 2021. Cheers! Glasgow-based @miltonjackson (real name Barry Christie) released his first EP aged 18 on @tronicsole way back in 2001. An album for @glasgowunderground entitled "The Bionic Boy" was released in 2001. Romanthony was such a big fan of the 3rd single ‘Dimensional’ that he asked to remix it, a huge honour for Milton. After the success of "Bionic Boy" and the accompanying live tour (taking in venues like @rexclub in Paris), EPs were completed for the likes of Black Vinyl, Bear Trax (Milton’s own label) and Omid 16B’s Alola (@sexonwax). Milton even worked with a young Mylo on their ‘Pretty Boys’ project. In 2006 a new relationship was formed with @jimpster’s @freerangerecords and saw collaborations with fellow deep house don @shurikan. 2009 was topped off with a win in the DJ Awards in the Deep House category. Milton picked up his award at Pacha in Ibiza alongside the likes of @petetong, @lucianocadenza and Sven Vath. Moving into the 2010s Milton remixed Recloose for Carl Craig’s (@planetedetroit) Planet E and turned in big remixes for Joey Negro’s (@daveleezr) Z Records, 8 Bit and Jef K’s hit “In My System” on Silver Network. He also released "Breathe" on Neurotraxx records. A new collaboration with Munich’s SHOW-B called “Pattern Select” saw the pair release a critically acclaimed EP on @delusionsofgrandeur and a remix for @huxley_uk imprint @saints-n-sonnets. 2012 saw no let up for Milton as he continued to DJ worldwide and release for Freerange (new track DSI), @tsuba vinyl imprint and Black Key Records. 2013 saw Milton take a break from house music after the birth of his children and after an 18 month layoff he returned to Kevin Griffiths’ Tsuba label with his ‘Your Love’ EP. Your love received many plaudits with @traxsource claiming: "Milton Jackson returns and it’s worth the wait!" Milton also recorded a special track for Freerange’s 20th anniversary boxset release called "Songs Without Words". In 2020, 20 years after his first release Milton is still releasing quality EPs - a new 4 tracker for @rawax-chiwax-housewax imprint Housewax was released, plus he has been recording further material with his old partner in music, Shur-i-kan and @matt-masters plus a new solo EP for Freerange. Overall throughout his career Milton has around 60 releases to his name, 2 albums and notched up over 100 remixes, not to mention appearing on hundreds of compilations around the world. Stay Rave with #R13!

My guest today is Hollie Smith. Hollie Smith is one of New Zealand's most predominant & iconic musicians. After working with numerous bands including Trinity Roots, Fat Freddy's Drop and Detroit dance legend Recloose, she was approached by NZ songwriting royalty Don McGlashan to perform on a movie soundtrack single ‘Bathe in The River' that topped the New Zealand singles charts and became one of the biggest and iconic singles in New Zealand history. This set the stage for Hollie's debut album ‘Long Player' released in 2007 which went straight to number one on the NZ charts. The album reached multi-platinum status, and was followed with sold out tours and then saw her take away several NZ music awards that year which included ‘Best Producer', ‘Best Female Solo Artist' and ‘Breakthrough artist of the year'. Hollie has gone on to record 2 more solo albums, "Humour and the Misfortune of Others", and "Water or Gold". And she's has recently begun production on a long awaited new album. Hollie Smith is a prolific hardworking singer/songwriter and performer, and has always maintained a highly respected reputation of creating music with the upmost integrity & passion, not to mention her incredible live performances and powerhouse vocals. Im extremely honoured to have gotten to sit and chat with Hollie for this podcast. So ladies and gentleman, please sit back and open your ears to some of the life and times of Hollie Smith. After some quite frankly brilliant guest mixes from all manner of talented DJs over the last few months, it's about time I had a go at one, so this time it's me doing my usual thing for hour 1, then me again playing more songs that I like but without the talking in hour 2. The first hour features tracks from Cerrone, Amp Fiddler, Marvin Gaye, Tavares and Recloose, and a few tasty edits from the likes of Barry & Gibbs and Get To Know. My guest mix is a bit of a mixed bag - some house tracks I bought recently, more edits, a few curveballs... I'm not usually one to plan mixes too exactly so this one takes a few turns on the journey. And it's an exclusive one too, so not uploaded anywhere else! As is customary for Funkier Radio I like to promote the guest a bit... so make sure you get yourself over to soundcloud.com/evenfunkier and instagram.com/evenfunkier for lashings of Funkier Goodness from myself! I'll see y'all in a couple of weeks, keep it real. xx HOUR 1 TRACKLIST Recloose - Dust Cerrone - African Voodoo Linda Evans - You Control Me (Kon Edit) Michelle Weeks, Wipe The Needle - My Everything (Opolopo Remix) Taxie - Rock Don't Stop Marvin Gaye - A Funky Space Reincarnation Raw Soul Express - The Way We Live Amp Fiddler feat. This mix is an exploration of releases from 1995 on the Fax label recorded at a private gathering in Kentucky. Rob Theakston is a name that may not be familiar to most of you, but will be instantly recognizable to anyone involved in the 90s Detroit techno scene, where he was a key antagonist and DJ. He worked at Planet E 1998-2000, Ghostly during the first few years, and had residencies with Recloose at Motor Lounge and Necto in Ann Arbor with Matt Dear and Sam Valenti. He released two EPs as Circuitry for Acoustic Division, including remixes from The Bunker's own Derek Plaslaiko and Patrick Russell. He's currently in a techno retirement of sorts in Kentucky, where he is the editor of Drinkhacker.com, and definitely knows more about whiskey than anyone you know.

Fresh for February 2018! I'm catching up! On a somber note, a special R.I.P. to the House Music pioneer Boyd Jarvis. His passing happened just as I finished this episode. I may do a tribute in a later episode.

Hausmusik: music made at and/or for, private home enjoyment. Introducing the latest concept compilation from Get Physical Music with tracks from Christian Prommer, Francois K, Brett Johnson, FreakMe, Recloose (and many more) there’s plenty of experience and soul here. The compilation represents a deeper, softer and somewhat more underground sound of house music and the first track immediately establishes the fact that this compilation will be more of a journey, rather than 18 dancefloor hits; Christian Prommer’s beatless ‘Distant Rhythm’ installs thoughtfulness and gets you listening right away. Francois K’s ‘Road of Life’ and the following tracks continue this thoughtful nature, and create a euphoric atmosphere, with soundscapes and depth that shy away from 4/4 club music. The compilation is designed to be both thoughtful and uplifting, and it is just that. Caterpillers & Birds by Silky Raven begins to bring some beats, and each track becomes more upbeat than the last, maintaining the euphoria and meaningfulness that is constant throughout. Avatism’s ‘Bitter Reminiscence’ provides a deep percussive interlude to the dreamy synth driven tracks and Jonatan Bäckelie & Jimpster’s effort that follows brings some meaningful vocals. The last tracks are the most upbeat and rightfully so, as the atmosphere has been building to this point for the whole album. All in all this is truly a compilation for intent listening. It is atmospheric, euphoric and thought provoking. The track listing flows perfectly and executes its purpose; house music for your Haus.

Living in the seaside republic of Venice for 20 years, WISEACRE initially established a successful career as a commercial/fine art photgrapher. in 2003, he decided to pick up some vinyl, a couple of turntables, a mixer, two speakers and a few friends in order to begin the labor of love we call “throwin’ parties”. since this time, wiseacre has put his love for photography on hold and co-created three very successful LA parties, FUNKY IN THE MIDDLE, CUSTOM SUNDAZE and now theLIFT which after one year is expanding to san francisco and new york . he has hosted and played along side such talents as GILLES PETERSON, DANNY KRIVIT, BONOBO, NICKODEMUS, LOUIE VEGA, JOE CLAUSELL, OSUNLADE, BLACK COFFEE, MARK FARINA, MR. [M]anila's streak of MVP deejay appearances continues, this time with the return of Nickodemus Thursday November 17 at M Cafe, along with DRM (a.k.a. Bastard Jazz). Nickodemus is of course behind the wildly successful outdoor party Turntables on the Hudson, celebrating its 10th year on New York City's house music scene. He is also resident DJ on the first Friday of each month at the city's most legendary--and Lebanese-owned (wink)--club Cielo. Nickodemus also manages his own record label Wonderwheel Recordings. Big show today, probably most notable was the announcement of this year’s Best Demo Competition winner. It’s an event for producers or musicians who have recorded, mixed and produced a finished track of any genre. Anything goes but you must primarily have had involvement at one stage during the writing and production of the work. The judge of the whole comp is the one and only Recloose joined us on the show to put us out of our misery and announce the winner. WHO is Ed Muzik aka James Dann!! Have a listen to what is was about the track that has now won him a trip to Auckland Redbull Studios to lay it down proper with Recloose. A BIG Congrats Ed!

Hi all, Some of you may know I've relocated from Sunny Scotland to a rather damp Sydney, Australia. While trying to get to grips with this new city and the Aussie rate of pace (pretty chilled) I've found this old nugget of a mix I recorded back in 2005. It was a promotional mix I would give away on CD at gigs in Edinburgh (the old way of sharing music and promotion. It's all much easier now with file sharing, podcasts, facebook and what have you. Some big tunes for me back then are included in the mix. Recloose joining kiwi's Fat Freddy's Drop frontman Joe Dukie on “Dust”, the amazing boogie-anthem-although-it-was-a-b-side “Burning Up” by Imagination, the extraordinary “Flookin” by Solid Groove was not out my record box for years and not forgetting the rap classic “Me, Myself and I”. I hope you enjoy the sounds... Akabu feat. Linda Clifford - “Ride the Storm” (NRK 2002) Young and Co - “(I Like) What You're Doing To Me” (Brunswick 1980) De La Soul - “Me, Myself and I” (Tommy Boy 1989) DBX - “And There Ain't” (Muggsy 1998) Imagination - “Burning Up” (R&B 1981) Loleatta Holloway - “Love Sensation (Acapella)” (Salsoul 1980) Atlantic Conveyor - “We Are” (Untracked 2004) Mark De Clive Lowe - “Travelling” (Antipodean 2004) A Bossa Electrica - “Veja A Sol (Spiritual South Mix)” (Raw Fusion 2004) Wagon Cookin - “Natural High” (Appetizers 2002) Solid Groove - “Flookin” (Loungin 2005) Bugz in The Attic - “Booty La La” (BITAsweet 2004) Recloose featuring Joe Dukie - “Dust” (Peacefrog 2005) Brian Chambers - “Higher Love (Greg Gauthier and Tony L's Vocal Mix)” (ZGS 2004) Next Evidence - “Morning Breeze (Dim's Disco Blend)” (Capitol 2002) The Rebirth - “Evil Vibrations” (Ubiquity 2004) Well, Europe, I hear you're having a rough winter, I hope this warms the soul a little. See you down the front, Gary on the Money

Hi all, been a while eh? Another flashback mix for you lovely people to download. This time by popular demand (ie. one of my mates lost the CD and loved it so much asked if he could get another copy ;-). This mix was a promotional mix I did for www.astrojazz.co.uk the home of Astroboy, co-founder and resident DJ of Edinburgh's legendary Departure Lounge night at The Caves. Possibly one of Edinburgh's most consistently good nights for all things broken, dub, jazzy and all round worldwide vibes. Up and Coming Decksmith... I can handle that! Expect jazz, soul, funk, hip hop, house, broken beat, and a very early airing of a Mark Ronson cover courtesy of a promo copy I got. Look at him now!
