Come along as we discuss the legendary island of Hy Brasil. You can find all of our wonderful links on the linktree: https://linktr.ee/allts Hy-Brasil (also spelled Hy-Brasil, Hy Breasail, or simply Brasil) is a legendary island said to lie in the Atlantic Ocean, west of Ireland. It appears in Irish mythology and maritime lore as a mysterious, often vanishing land, and has intrigued mapmakers, explorers, and storytellers for centuries. Here's a detailed overview: Origins and Name Etymology: The name Hy-Brasil likely comes from the Irish “Uí Breasail,” meaning “descendants (or clan) of Bresal,” an ancient Irish clan. It has no connection to the modern country of Brazil, despite the similar name. It was sometimes referred to as the "Isle of the Blessed" and was associated with paradise-like qualities. Myth and Folklore In Irish myth, Hy-Brasil was a hidden island, often shrouded in mist and only visible once every seven years—though even when visible, it could not be reached. It was described as a place of great beauty and abundance, sometimes even as a utopian society or a land of advanced knowledge and technology. Some versions of the legend say it was home to wise sages or priests with powerful secrets. Cartographic Appearances Hy-Brasil began appearing on medieval maps as early as the 14th century, often west of Ireland or southwest of Galway Bay. It was included on several well-known maps: The 1325 portolan chart by Angelo Dalorto The 1375 Catalan Atlas As late as the 1800s, some maps still included it, sometimes depicted as a circular island split by a river. Explorers and Sightings Over the centuries, several explorers claimed to have seen or tried to visit Hy-Brasil. In 1674, Captain John Nisbet, sailing from France to Ireland, allegedly encountered the island and described it as inhabited and fertile. Other 17th-century reports added to the myth, suggesting that travelers who reached it were granted knowledge or returned with riches. Modern Interpretations Lost Island Theory: Some speculate Hy-Brasil could be a memory of a real island that has since sunk, or a misidentified location like the Porcupine Bank (a submerged plateau west of Ireland). Paranormal & UFO Lore: In 1980, Hy-Brasil was mentioned in the Rendlesham Forest UFO incident, where a map reportedly shown to one witness (under hypnosis) contained coordinates matching the supposed location of Hy-Brasil—adding to its modern mystery appeal. Cultural Legacy The island has inspired works in literature, music, and art, symbolizing the unreachable ideal, a lost civilization, or mystical knowledge. It continues to appear in fantasy and speculative fiction as a place of wonder and enigma.

Supposedly true tales this week from Dan include a story about an elderly widow living alone in the early 1980s and her visitors. Then, we'll bounce around the world to a number of so-called “phantom islands.” Can an island discovered by numerous explorers inexplicably just disappear? And, if so, what does that mean? Then, Lynze brings us three tales in a death sandwich of stories, if you will. Her first is sweet and sad and gives us hope for a connection to our deceased loved ones. Then, a home is not haunted until it is- did a fire wake up a ghost? Lastly, the grim reaper or the man in black comes for an old man. However just within the last few weeks it has completely disappeared! It will not even come up on a search, which is crazy because your music CDs do. How odd. Did you get some sort of notification from Amazon Prime Music that your podcast was no longer going to be available? I will have to figure out a new way to listen to it and I will! I just enjoyed the convenience as I am not able to stream music much at work (bandwidth) but Amazon Prime Music seemed to always work. Best Regards," Robin followed that up with: "Hello Marc, Enjoy your trip! Thanks for getting back to me and for the link. There's good news though, your Celtic Christmas podcasts are still available on Amazon Prime! Love it always, any time of the year. " Patrick Rieger emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, My family and I have been busy the past month with a stop at our favorite pub and two renaissance festivals, so I'll be sending a few emails about the incredible musicians we enjoyed. On August 24, we went to Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle to see John McCann and Hamish, and an hour after they started everyone, including John and Hamish, got a surprise: the third member of the Corned Beef and Curry Band dropped in, Bob Banerjee. Bob is the most incredible fiddle player I have ever seen, and he has an endless number of bad jokes. He is the curry in the band's name, having been born in India. So for a few hours, this great band was back together. Irish musician Mark Guiser was in the audience that night, and was invited onto the stage for a few songs. Two wedding parties then dropped in for some post - reception fun. The energy, excitement and fun hadn't been that high at the Harp in a long time, and my wife and I only left because our son needed to get to bed. In one photo is The Corned Beef & Curry Band, from left to right, John McCann, Bob Banerjee, and Hamish, In the other, Mark Guiser and Bob. They were playing Hallelujah with Mark singing."

I had two messages come in about Gretna Green after I mentioned it in episode #671. Shel O'Toole wrote: "Hi Marc, It was interesting to hear you refer to Gretna Green. My knowledge of it was as a place people eloped to. A quick search of Google confirmed my memories. It was interesting to discover Gretna is a town built during World War 1. The village of Gretna Green is still thriving and it sounds like a great place to visit. It is certainly on my list of places to visit should I get to fulfill my dream of going to Scotland. I discovered in the past couple of years my maternal grandmother's family is from Ayrshire in Scotland. They came from a village called Coylton. I look forward to hearing about your whiskey tour and seeing photos of Scotland. I'm really enjoying today's show #671 Thanks for all the great music Marc. Sliãnte" Wayne Myers wrote: "Hey Marc, I was listening to episode 671 while playing soccer today and heard you mention the Scottish village of Gretna Green. There is a fantasy author named Linzi Day who lives there and has her book series set there. I know she is amenable to answering questions, because she answered mine. Her book series is The Midlife Recorder series, which starts with Midlife in Gretna Green. Love the show. Slainte." Mary Lynn Deal sent a message on Patreon: "Hi Marc, I'm doing some 3d printing and office work at home while listening today. Still enjoying every minute. Have a wonderful day, Slainte," Rod Nevin commented on Patreon: "Lovely collection of music! By the way Marc, I have to tell you because I know you would want to know, the tune title for Arise & Go has “Strathspeys” and reels, and the correct pronunciation for strathspey is “strath'spay” … last syllable being what Bob Barker always reminded us to do our pets.

Mary Laheen was one of five creative directors of the Ireland pavilion exhibition, at the 18th Venice Architettura Biennale 2023, titled In Search of Hy-Brasil. In this episode, we discuss the significance of islands as we re-imagine the future. This idea is of particular interest to me as I continue my research, after completing my PhD on how the atmosphere of islandness can be conveyed through the photographic image. Mary and I met in Venice during the finissage period when Australia and Ireland co-hosted an event with Scotland, titled Wanderlands. It was during this period, we found synergies between each of our pavilions, with some shared experiences as island nations navigating our history of colonisation by the British Empire. In this third episode we cover: the theme of islands that underlies the exhibition concept In Search of Hy-Brasil how the exhibition draws inspiration from the mythological island of Hy-Brasil and the islands off the coast of Ireland. what we can learn from islands, particularly in terms of the nature-culture dynamic and the resilience and creativity fostered by living in island communities. designing an exhibition that is an atmospheric or sensory experience rather than a more traditional explanation-driven style the role of mythology in understanding islands and the connections between isolation, belonging and creativity. the importance of decolonisation and decarbonisation in architectural practice and Mary's interest in exploring new ways of building with sustainable materials and technologies parallels between island life in Ireland and Tasmania, highlighting shared experiences of living on the periphery and the creative freedom that comes with it, and reflections on future collaborations and the ongoing journey of exploring innovative approaches to architecture and design.

Send us a Text Message. In 1980, the most documented UFO sighting in the world took place in England close to an Air Base. One of the witnesses said he touch it and binary code was burnt into his mind. He had the binary code decoded for him and it gave the coordinates of ancient structures like the pyramids and a place called Hi-Brazil.As early as the 12th century, the Irish believed in the existence of a strange island that could be viewed along the west coast of Ireland once every seven years. There was an oral tradition of telling stories about an island in a fog bank or a “floating island” that would disappear when people approached it. Later, the stories were printed in books about Irish folklore. The text featured above is from a chapter in a book titled Irish wonders; the ghosts, giants, pookas, demons, leprechawns, banshees, fairies, witches, widows, old maids, and other marvels of the Emerald Isle; popular tales as told by the people. It is a story about an enchanted island that was visible for the first time to inhabitants of County Cork on July 7, 1878. The island vanished and would later appear once every seven years off of the west coast of Ireland. The Enchanted Island may be read in its entirety by clicking on the text. Das erwähnte Buch heißt "Hy Brasil: The Metamorphosis of an Island: From Cartographic Error to Celtic Elysium" von Barbara Freitag, aus dem Jahr 2013. Das Episodenbild zeigt den Ausschnitt einer Karte von Abraham Ortelius aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. //Aus unserer Werbung Du möchtest mehr über unsere Werbepartner erfahren? EAGLE SESSIONS #399 AlBird presents the Eagle Sessions – your weekly Techno podcast from Berlin. OK! This is episode number 399! One to go for the 400! And this is something really special! As you all know I'm based at Riverside Studios in Berlin where I've recently became a business partner as well as having my residency with my studio there. One of the amazing other residents there is Hybrasil. We occasionally hang out for lunchbreaks at a nearby curry-place and talk about music, the music business etc. This summer he played a show alongside Carl Cox at “Carl Cox Invites” at the famous DC10 in Ibiza which Hybrasil recorded and provided as a 60mins guestmix for my Eagle Sessions. So this is really special to me having an original recording from this great club by an amazing artist. Hybrasil uses to Octatracks for his live sets! You definitely have to catch him at his upcoming live shows…it's a lot of fun watching this man perform! Also a new release is out there on Marco Faraone's label UNCAGE called Hybrasil24.II. Which contains tracks that Hybrasil produced during a 24 hour live stream for Beatport's Streams back in the summer! Check it out and feel the vibe of Hybrasil and DC10! Irish folklore is full of magical and fantastical tales. Whether it's banshee, giants, leprechauns or phantom islands, we tend to think of them as myth - evidence of a beautiful oral history but nothing physical. But if they are only myth, why does the legendary land of Hy-Brasil appear on dozens of maps from around the world dating back to the 14th century? Could it be real? Could it be evidence of Atlantis? There's only one way to find out - time for Kit and Rory to investigate.Support us on Patreon.com/ThisParanormalLife to get access to weekly bonus episodes!Buy Official TPL Merch! - thisparanormallife.com/storeFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTubeJoin our Secret Society Facebook CommunityResearch by Amy GrisdaleEdited by Louis BlatherwickIntro music by www.purple-planet.com Hosted on Acast.
The guys discuss the secret mystery of the ancient (and disappearing)...Hy-Brasil Island!!!

We are back in the Azores searching for Atlantis with some fresh research from Mat. Using public bathymetric data and google earth measurement tools he seems to be onto something. There are some key distances and measurements from the pyramids, to Gobekli Tepe and to the edges of the Azores plateau which may have been high above the water many years ago. We chat about Plato's dialogues, isostatic depression, sonar dragging, ancient measurements, ancient megalithic sites in Malta, the UK and elsewhere. He also shows some interesting dimensions from the Azores to the eye of the Saraha and Silbury hill in UK. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEDTu26trjEz6XoMoSL2q7w https://twitter.com/ApocalypseLBRY Mat is back to chat about more of his original research in to the geometry that was possibly used by the ancients to locate major sites on the globe. We go over Atlantis, Avebury, Richat, Gobekli Tepe, and the Giza plateau in relation to each other. We also talk about Hi-Brasil and what possibly happened to that and the ancient Edfu texts that may have been the original reference to Atlantis. He shares the graph about the glacial cycles which shows the importance of the younger dryas event which signified a new geological epoch. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEDTu26trjEz6XoMoSL2q7w

Is this an episode about a mythical creature you've never heard of before????? NO. No, it isn't. It IS an episode about a mythical island you've PROBABLY never heard of before: Hy-Brasil. Come take this ride with us!
