Kicking off in the early ‘90s with a Teesside Uni residency, I had the honor of warming up for legends like Jeremy Healy, Danny Rampling, and Judge Jules—setting the stage for an unforgettable journey through house music. For the past 12 years, I've been running my own night, Together, while tearing up the decks at Pitch Fest and dropping high-energy sets for The Dance Factory. Not forgetting The Fixation nights on the boat. With house music in my veins, I bring the heat with harder-edged progressive sets on Unite, while still throwing in the occasional old-skool session. This set? Pure nostalgia. Mixed the way it was meant to be—on two Technics 1200s and a mixer—spinning the very records that shaped my early sets. Turn it up & enjoy!

ABOUT THIS CONVERSATION: Danny Rampling is a pioneering British DJ and music producer who played a pivotal role in shaping the rave culture and electronic dance music scene. In this conversation with Danny Rampling, we cover a broad range of topics weighing heavily on both our minds. We start by addressing the awkwardness of colleagues avoiding controversial discussions, seemingly out of fear of stepping outside the mainstream narrative. Danny also shares his insights on the role of DJs and how they create meaningful connections with their audiences, and we even talk about the rise of British cooking and the phenomenon of superstar chefs. We then shift to weightier subjects—COVID-19's impact on the music industry, the fear and conformity tactics employed by those in power, and the increasing censorship and shadow banning on social media. We discuss the manipulation behind vaccine shaming and the hypocrisy of individuals pushing vaccines for personal gain and much more. Danny's passion and courage to speak out shine through in this conversation. Video version: https://youtu.be/fJWJgieaZN4 From hosting parties as kids on two home hifis in a small west country town to playing some of the biggest clubs and festivals in the world, schooldays best friends Nick Halkes and Andy Smith have enjoyed amazing careers both individually and together. Here they talk about remixing , touring and so much more as they prepare for the release of the third instalment of the Reach Up Disco Wonderland compilation series on BBE that Andy compiles. As schooldays best friends Andy and Nick ran a mobile disco together and hunted for bargain 12 inch vinyl in their childhood home town of Portishead near Bristol. At this point they had no idea that Andy would supply beats and tour the world with Portishead before one of the top 100 djs in the world nor that Nick would go on to set up the XL and Positiva labels becoming one of the UK mst respected dance and electronic music industry executives. Reach Up launched more than five years ago at London basement venue The Waiting Rooms and soon after appeared at Carl Cox's night at Space, Ibiza where they played for three seasons on the bounce and then also began packing out their monthly London residency at Peckham's South London Soul Train (hosted at the legendary Bussey Building). Following the 2017 release of the Reach Up Disco Wonderland compilation on the renowned BBE Records, Volume 2 was released in 2019. Andy and Nick's re-edits of two tracks on the 2017 Reach Up Disco Wonderland comp were just the start. Nick's collaboration with Full Intention, both to release original music on Midnight Riot and remix State of the Nation feat the Jungle Brothers, gained support from Purple Disco Machine, Dimitri from Paris and Roger Sanchez. From there a chart topping Nick Reach Up remix of Hideaway by De'lacey followed and a Nick Reach Up collab with Birdee and vocal legend Barbara Tucker that scored coveted daytime Radio One play in the UK whilst hitting top 3 on Traxsource. An invitation to remix Mel C took the Nick Reach Up sound into new territory whilst a rework of Body Work by Hot Streak also took off. Most recently Nick was approached to remix the Kylie single Magic taken from her album appropriately entitled ‘Disco' and in October 2020 had 4 remixes of his simultaneously in the Music Week Upfront Top 20. In the time that all this was happening amongst other achievements Andys re-edit of Will Sessions & Amp Fiddler feat. Dames Brown – Lost Without You notched up a tune of the month accolade in Mixmag. Despite having much to look back on Reach Up's monthly radio show on the award-winning Soho Radio features regular guest mixes from the likes of Full Intention, Jumpin' Jack Frost, Young Pulse, Danny Rampling and more showcasing the hottest new music along with classic and more hidden gems from back in the day. Despite knowing each other for decades maybe this is still just the start for Nick and Andys Reach Up Disco Wonderland adventure?!
In today's episode of Cow Daily with Mike Cow, we delve deep into the undercurrents of the rave scene, uncovering unsettling connections to far-right elements. Join us as we explore the ties between influential artists like Ellis Dee, Slipmatt, Danny Rampling, and more, and HOPE Sussex, an organisation with links to the far-right BNP in the UK. Our conversation extends beyond the surface, addressing the foundational principles of the rave scene and questioning its openness. We shine a light on the inherent ableism in both the scene and society at large, highlighting the serious risks faced by individuals with clinical vulnerabilities who aspire to participate. Discover the uncomfortable truth about individuals like Katie Hopkins, a far-right influencer sharing the same platform as people who previously represented "peace and love" like Slipmatt. We unravel how their version of freedom becomes exclusionary, rendering the scene far from inclusive for people with disabilities. One of the most charming DJs in the business. A musical ambassador and a veteran of acid house, a champion of techno, a dance music pioneer, label owner, King of Ibiza – you name it, Carl's been there and done it, never losing sight of his passions – playing music, breaking tunes and celebrating life. **TRACKLIST** * How It Makes You Feel (Original Mix) - Carl Cox, Nicole Moudaber * Speed Trials On Acid (feat. Dan Diamond) [LF SYSTEM Remix] (Extended Mix) - Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Dan Diamond * Get What You Paid 4 (Marco Bailey Remix) * Inferno (Original Mix) - Carl Cox, Reinier Zonneveld, Christopher Coe * Nexus (Foamo Remix) * Nocturnal (Original Mix) - Carl Cox, Christopher Coe, Cox and Coe * The Player (Onionz Remix) * The Latin Theme Feat. Disco was the first music that captivated him but by the early 80s Cox had moved on to playing the same music as other young London DJs – rare groove, New York hip-hop and electro. He was perfectly placed to hear Chicago house music in its earliest forms, and when the epic ‘Acid Trax' by Phuture (a.k.a. DJ Pierre) came out in early '87. “It was then that I thought, ‘This is it,' says Carl. “I would do my parties, and I'd play old rare groove and hip hop and soul and I would say ‘Right you've got to hear this Phuture track' and people would just stop and listen.” As a founder of the sound, Carl rode the exploding British rave scene. He played the opening night of Danny Rampling's legendary Shoom, co-promoted The Project with Paul Oakenfold, where he also DJ'd and did the sound system. He held a residency at the Zap Club in Brighton and at the Sunrise rave in 1988, hooked up a third turntable for his dawn-breaking set, got 15,000 people back on their feet, and established a personal rep for three-deck wizardry. The next step was to make music, and Carl's 1991 debut single for Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label, ‘I Want You,' reached Number 23 in the national UK charts and gave Carl his first Top of the Pops appearance. Two more singles also made the charts. But Carl was a reluctant pop star and as the masses moved onto fluffy house and trance, and the hardcore created jungle, Cox retreated into the club world that had nurtured him, and instead embraced the underground sounds of techno. “Techno drives home somewhere,” he says of his core music. “It takes you to an element of surprise, not knowing where you're going. It's scary but wonderful at the same time.” Carl's classic releases include his 1995 mix CD, ‘F.A.C.T,‘ which became a techno benchmark, selling over 250,000 copies, and the 1996 EP ‘Two Paintings and a Drum,‘ which again broke the British top 30. Alongside Carl's ‘Ultimate Music Management' company, which counted Josh Wink and Laurent Garnier among 27 clients, there was the Ultimatum record label, for which Carl recorded his third top 30 UK single, ‘Sensual Sophis-ti-cat.' In 2005, Carl's third album, ‘The Second Sign' caused a stir across Europe and reached number 3 in Spain's national chart. Also gaining critical acclaim was ‘Dirty Bass,' a collaboration with Christian Smith, and the funky ‘Give Me Your Love', both released on 23rd Century Records, an outlet for his own burgeoning production output. Carl formed his own label, Intec Records, in 1999, scoring a series of underground hits and enjoying eight years at the forefront of electronic music. After its closure in 2006, Carl was still inundated with new music, finally deciding to re-launch the label as Intec Digital in 2010, and it's been a triumphant return, thanks to exclusives from some of the biggest names in techno. Intec Digital was also the home for Carl's 6th studio album, ‘All Roads Lead To the Dancefloor,' released to critical acclaim in 2011. In 2013 Carl re-launched his seminal Pure Intec series, nine years after the hugely successful original ‘Pure Intec.' Pure Intec 3 followed in 2016 and this year sees the release of the 4th installment in the series – Pure Intec 4. “I've always been about nurturing artists and supporting new talent,” says Carl. “Sometimes a release gets missed, or overlooked. Pure Intec is a great way to collate the best of our output and celebrate it.” And of course Carl's name cannot be mentioned without Ibiza. His legendary Ibiza residency at Space came to an end in 2016, after an unbelievable 15 consecutive years. Since 2001 Carl helped establish Space as one of the biggest clubs in the world. With carefully thought out line ups, and as much emphasis on new talent as big names, Carl always strived to keep his night at the forefront of Ibiza clubbing making it one of the most successful residencies in Ibiza history. Starting out in 2001 with just 6 nights, his residency grew and adapted as the club did, so for Carl it was only right to end his residency as Space itself closed its doors. And what a way to go out. Carl's final 15 week season was his biggest ever, with every single night selling out, heralded by fans and critics alike as a triumphant finale to a piece of dance history. In summer 2018 Carl caused huge excitement, when it was announced he had joined forces with Space's founder Pepe Rosello, general manager Juan Arenas and Ibiza promoter Dave Browning and that together they were working on bringing back the legendary club to Ibiza. “Space club Ibiza has always been my home for the last 20 years,” said Carl. “To pave the new way for the future of Space is really exciting, and now forming a partnership with Pepe, Juan, and Dave Browning to run the newly-formed team, it feels solid in the way that we are a family team, and I feel we can bring everything back to where it belongs.” Those plans are still very much under way, although Carl admits their hands are tied currently in terms of opening a new club on the island. “There's a protocol in place beyond our control, but we still 100% want to do it and I'm confident it will happen. Until then we're concentrating on keeping the Space flag flying with some great events across the world.” These include an upcoming Steel Yard London Carl Cox Presents Space Ibiza, a special Space stage at Tomorrowland and various Studio 338 parties, with more Space events being planned. Ibiza is still priority for Carl, where he has returned to play every summer since Space's closure, carefully picking and choosing which nights he'll play. He now has his roaming club series ‘One Night Stand' which returns in summer 2019 with two nights at DC-10 and he's enjoying being back at Privilege Ibiza, as part of Resistance, acting as curator and headliner for another four parties this year. On top of that he'll be joining Nic Fanciulli for two nights at Ushuaia and playing Pacha's closing party with Marco Carola. In my early days of playing Ibiza it wasn't alien for me to play all the clubs,” says Carl. “I had the opportunity to do my own night at Space and define my sound in one club. It's now nice to be able to share the love with some of the other clubs.” Carl continues to be one of most in demand DJs in the world, with countless club dates and festival appearances every year. After 12 years delivering his Carl Cox & Friends stage at Ultra, Carl is now proud to be ambassador for the Resistance parties, for Ultra worldwide. He also now has his own concept party Pure – started with Richie McNeill and Eric Powell, and which turns five this year. Built on the idea of taking things back to basics, Carl put the music first and foremost for some no nonsense, no frills techno parties, which grows by the year, with this year's Pure events being the biggest to date. “Pure is my thing. I've nurtured it from day one, striving to bring the best purveyors of techno together to deliver it in its purest form, and it works.” On top of the Australian events, Carl has taken Pure to Ibiza and the UK, with further Pure events planned for New York, Montreal and Prague. Carl became an official partner of Babylon festival in Australia in 2018, a role he continued this year, helping curate the lineup, the event's ethos, and jumping onboard as Babylon's headline act. Carl also has a long history with Burning Man, having performed at the annual event in Black Rock City since 2008. Carl started his Playground camp as a way to celebrate all that Burning Man is and as a way to give back to a culture that he loves. It started small and most who landed in the camp that first year were those just passing by to get someplace else, but the music and vibe pulled them in. From that humble start it has steadily grown over the years and in a very organic way because the energy, music and people are what makes Playground so special. On top of all this Carl has also found the time to launch another label, Awesome Soundwave (ASW) with label partner, Christopher Coe, AKA Digital Primate. Launched in May 2018, the label is geared towards artists who make and perform their music live and has signed six artists so far. “My idea was to create a label where artists who can make and perform their music live, have a stable where they can be themselves and be able to create the music without any boundaries.” He is also still at the forefront of producing music himself. He now has his own state of the art studio in Australia which enables him to work production anytime he's not on the road. Carl's remix of Ninetoes ‘Finder,' went through the roof when released last year and he recently made his return to Circus Recordings for the menacing ‘Dark Alleys.' He's returned to the track that helped start it all back in 1987, remixing DJ Pierre's ‘Acid Track', for Pierre's upcoming 35 years of DJing celebration release. Elsewhere look out for Carl's masterful touch on remixes of Russell Small's ‘It Is What It Is,' Purple Disco Machine's ‘Body Funk' and a new mix of his own 2000 release ‘Dr Funk', out on Bush Records. And don't forget Carl's other major passion, his beloved motorsports. Having had a love of cars and motorbikes ever since he was a child, Carl has collected cars and bikes most of his life, with over 100 in his current collection. In 2013 Carl started Carl Cox Motorsport, which has quickly grown internationally with the incorporation of various teams and styles of motor racing. From the NZ & World road race Sidecar championships, The Ducati Tri-Options Cup in the UK, to the Post Classic motorcycles and V8 Drag racing in Australia, the teams continue to achieve amazing results with multiple lap records, race wins, championship placings and personal goals being reached. “To be able to utilize what I have learned from the marketing and brand side of my DJ career and to apply it to my passion for motor sport is a great thing. And it's already made a difference. I never thought the motor team would grow like this, it's been unbelievable. It's a huge passion for me and I'm dedicated to continue making it a success.” To those wondering how he finds the time for all of this, he says he's in his element, and just making the most of life and of the amazing opportunities he has. “There's still a lot more to come from me. There's still a lot more water in the well.”

TRUE HOUSE STORIES® W/ RICKY MORRISON # 105 Ricky Morrison has been breaking beats since it all began in '86. Genuinely one of the most influential producers & DJ's in the UK house scene from its original days in the early eighties. He is also one half of the dance music production and remixing duo, M&S. Their biggest hit was ‘Salsoul Nugget (If You Wanna)'. He has earned a reputation for delivering big performances and big records, and is set to release a wave of new material in 2020/21.In 1984 a young Ricky Morrison began spinning at London's infamous ‘Dance Wicked', promoted by SOUL II SOUL, and went on to be resident at ‘HIGH ON HOPE' with the legend that is now Norman Jay MBE. Two of the UK's most seminal dance clubs was a hell of a start and Ricky established a name for himself within the exploding house scene that developed into the monster it is today. Ricky has gone on to play at many of the best clubs in the world, on every continent, and very much has a style of his own that stands him out from the crowd, a style that saw him play the main room at the Southport Weekender five years in a row as the event was returning to its soulful roots in the late 90's. Also a regular at the Ministry Of Sound, Fabric & Pacha, Ricky developed a sound for the big rooms these venues offered that filled the space without betraying his soulful roots. This made Ricky a valuable commodity as the US House scene took off and many promoters of previously underground events began taking over the High Street needing a DJ that could cross over the soulful sound to a bigger audience. Ricky's style is unique and unlike the majority of the UK's soulful house fraternity, often described as a US sound with a British twist, and anyone who's heard him play will associate with this summary. He was so influenced by the sound coming out of the US that, in 1991, he quit his day job as a computer engineer and opened London's legendary ‘Catch A Groove Records' in Soho and this exclusive access this gave him to new material simply added to his effectiveness and reputation. Ricky has played alongside an almost comprehensive who's who of the DJ superstars that shaped today's dance music. DJ's he has played alongside include…Tony Humphries, Louie Vega, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Kenny Carpenter, Todd Terry, Erick Morillo, Terry Hunter, C.J Mackintosh, Danny Rampling, Tedd Patterson, C&C Music Factory, Roger Sanchez, Pippi, David Harness, Paul Trouble Anderson and much much more!

From Lakota in the early 1990's until today, Mark has worked with some of the biggest names in house music including Carl Cox, Danny Rampling and John 00 Fleming and is now bringing on a new breed of creators and promotors through Basement 45 and his DJ training courses. Mark joins David to discuss his journey to where he is now and how through passion, persistence and resilience he has succeeded in turning his passion into a profession in one of the toughest trades there is. KEY TAKEAWAYS Running a nightclub has always been a tough business and longevity is a very rare thing due to the nature of the ever-changing trends. Over recent years with the advent of a pandemic, learning how to adapt in order to survive has never been as important as it is now. Persistence and passion – Mark turned hassling people for gigs into a profession! Time has a habit of creeping up on you and you can suddenly find yourself many years into a career or a profession you may not have chosen for yourself. It’s always a lonely place at the top. Surrounding yourself with people that are engaged in your business will also keep you in touch with what your business needs to thrive. Having the manager that’s right for your business can have a huge impact not only on how successful it is, but also the standards of the team in the rest of the organization. Fear of a Black Planet by Public Enemy - what an album Mark and David have almost committed to returning to Ibiza! BEST MOMENTS ‘Life happens and families happen and what you want when you’re going out changes.” ‘It became about the promoting and organizing the events and less and less about the DJ-ing.” ‘I was just so passionate about it I never really thought oh, maybe initially this is what I’ll do for a living.' 'The more successful you are, the more success you get' 'Enjoy what you do Create opportunity and things will happen' 'How you get on with people is the most important thing.’ ABOUT THE SHOW People with purpose make a difference. In the first hour we'll connect with renowned DJ and music producer Danny Rampling, to discuss the impact of 16 months of pandemic restrictions on society, music, entertainment and culture, as well as the growing freedom movement in the UK and internationally, and the increasingly disturbing trend of social media censorship and its overall effect on the situation. Danny Rampling is one of the most recognisable names in dance music, credited with having been a pioneer of the UK's Acid House movement in the late 1980s, and having played on the international club and festival circuit ever since. He is also one of the most interesting DJs to hear speak, getting into subject areas that others don't touch.Tragically, Danny is one of only a pathetically few recognisable names in the dance music field who are speaking out about government tyranny and over-reach, and the unlawful assault on our natural rights and freedoms. This has particularly affected the nightlife and clubbing sector as part of a systematic War on Joy. We discuss why so many of his peers are just going along with the injustice and staying silent or - worse still - endorsing the official narrative by excessive virtue-signalling.We also get into Danny's spiritual philosophies as he relates a life-changing experience in his younger years.

Nicky Holloway's connection with music began as soon as he was born. Growing up on a boat and witnessing bands such as Pink Floyd playing live, Nicky got into DJing and started his own events in 1985 at The Royal Oak with Giles Peterson and Pete Tong as his residents before they became super DJs. Nicky was renowned for his events in quirky venues such as the natural history museum, London zoo to name just a few. Nicky talks about his experiences in Ibiza with Danny Rampling and Paul Oakenfold and playing at venues such as Cafe del Mar before Ibiza became popular. Hanging out with Bono from U2, Kylie Minogue at the Milk Bar, Nicky was the first event promoter to bring Todd Terry and David Morales to the UK. Nicky was always one step ahead of the game. Hear how he was able to put on a surprise show with Sister Sledge whilst they were touring in the UK. Irvine Walsh asked Nicky Holloway, Paul Oakenfold and Danny Rampling to be part of a film about Ibiza - how did it all go so wrong?

TRUE HOUSE STORIES WITH FARLEY & HELLER INTERVIEW BY LENNY FONTANA PODCAST 025 (PART 2) Respected UK dance music producers and remixers, Terry Farley and Pete Heller initially found success in the UK in the early 90s. Londoner Terry Farley was a fan of Studio One reggae and ska before becoming involved with the London soul club scene during the 80s. Pete Heller grew up on the south coast of England and began his musical career by Djing in a Brighton discotheque, playing disco, hip-hop and house. After playing warm-up sets for Danny Rampling, Heller and Andrew Weatherall formed the Boy's Own collective, running a fanzine, Boy's Own club nights and eventually a record label - Junior Boy's Own. Farley and Heller's initial productions as a team with Hugo Nicholson were released as Bocca Juniors. Since then, they have remixed for many artists including Michael Jackson, Jamiroquai, Sunscreem, K-Klass, Simply Red, New Order, U2, Janet Jackson, Boy George, and the Pet Shop Boys. Their own productions have appeared under the name Fire Island and have been hugely popular on the club scene. As Fire Island, they covered Machine's 1979 classic ‘There But For The Grace Of God'. Their 1997 recording ‘Ultra Flava' was a huge hit in European clubs and Ibiza and eventually became a UK Top 40 hit when the vocals of Ultra Naté were added. In 1999, Heller's track ‘Big Love' was signed to Pete Tong's London Records and quickly became ubiquitous on European dancefloors (especially those in Ibiza) before entering the UK charts at number 12. Building on their reputation as excellent club DJs, they also mixed Late Night Sessions for the Ministry

020: Danny Rampling. Danny Rampling is a superstar DJ who is one of the originators of the house music scene. After witnessing DJ Alfredo play in Amnesia on a fateful trip to Ibiza in 1987, Danny’s mind was opened up to how music can create a collective consciousness on the dancefloor and he decided to import this vibe back to Britain by setting up his legendary club night Shoom that then kickstarted the Summer Of Love in 1988. During this period Danny was also a host on the then pirate station of Kiss FM before moving to BBC Radio 1 where he hosted his iconic Friday night show the Love Groove Dance Party. Still very much a headliner on the scene, Danny is also an active campaigner for movements that seek to save our clubs, venues, artists and dancefloors – listen for the stories and be inspired by Mr Rampling’s call to arms to help support the night time industry. Jay is no stranger to the music scene,he began his career in the early 90's alongside other local producers K-Klass and King Unique. Working under different aliases Jay remixed tracks for many successful pop stars like Holly Johnson (Frankie Goes To Hollywood) & East 17. His remix of East 17 - Hey Child (made with Matthew Roberts)went on to became a hit in Ibiza and Pete Tong's "Essential New Tune" as did his remix of Kaya - My God is Real which came out on Erick Morrilo's world famous label Subliminal. "THE DEEP CONTROL" presents a series of podcasts ! Darien J (London, United Kingdom) Bio: Darien's innate passion for music started early at 12; being unofficially, but undeniably responsible for the all-important mix tape for the Friday Stockton-On-Tees after-school gathering. He quickly realised the unadulterated personal pleasure derived from seeing others light up and bond as a result of sounds he'd selected. This desire to help orchestrate togetherness and pure joy on a dance floor has only strengthened and is what drives him today. From these early days, DJing has featured heavily in Darien's life. In 1994 he moved to London which is, in his words, 'the epicentre of the world's most innovative and influential dance music'. Inspired by legends like Sasha, Danny Rampling and Laurent Garnier, Darien began to develop a trademark sound, sharing this with the crowds at many of London's iconic clubs including Turnmills and The Egg through the naughties. His growing love of a particular style led him to start creating his own music, with his first release in 2008. Darien J's sound is distinctive; at its core deep bass but fused with acid house, deep minimal and melodic techno combining to create an infectious groove.
