I started this episode in a bit of a grumpy mood because rekordbox/ Mac issues meant that all of latest downloads that I was so looking forward to playing remained trapped on my Mac and not my USB. But I soon cheered up as I picked out some choice cuts from the 8,000 or so tracks that were on the stick. A mixed bag as always but keeping things more on the disco side of things for a lot of it… …and for good reason, as my guest this time was none other than Tatiana - part of The Disco Express. TDE are one of my favourite labels, and they should be one of your favourite labels too. And Tatiana is an expert selector, who put together a superb mix for your listening pleasure. Tatiana is a London-based DJ, audio producer, and music journalist. Her sound moves smoothly between disco, high-energy italo, and soulful house, all underpinned by funky basslines to keep you moving on the dance floor. She has played the likes of E1, 25 Paul Street, Colour Factory, Night Tales, Oslo Hackney, XOYO, and POW Brixton, and at festivals such as El Dorado, Queen's Yard Summer Party, Access The Festival, and Brixton Disco Festival, as well as regular gigs in Berlin at venues such as the iconic KitKatClub, Bulbul, Klunkerkranich, and Crack Bellmer. In 2024, she made her Paris debut at Les Bains, and has just returned from playing her first run of gigs in Tokyo in the spring. She is part of the team behind The Disco Express - an East London label & event series renowned for hosting the world's biggest names in disco. She's active behind the scenes booking line-ups, managing events, and helping with the day-to-day running of the label. Josh Hvaal, UK joins us on Stacked. Josh's musical education started at a young age where he began DJing aged 9, learning his craft on belt drive record players and here is where his passion for dance music blossomed. As he grew older, Josh became heavily influenced by the unique sounds of artists such as Paul Johnson, DJ Deeon, Vin Sol and DJ Haus. Fascinated by the speed and energy of their music, Hvaal invested countless hours developing his own sound and style orientated around the dancefloor. Josh's unique, extensive catalogue of unreleased dance floor-ready music has graced the dancefloors of some of the biggest and most renowned clubs and festivals in the world. His music support from the likes of JAMIE JONES, RICHY AHMED, LATMUN, PAWASA and SEB ZITO to name a few. Having caught the eye of world renowned DJ/Producer Jamie Jones with his unconventional, original productions, Jamie subsequently signed Josh's debut release “The Sound EP” to his and Lee Foss's powerhouse underground record label Hot Creations Armed with an arsenal of quality own productions and club inspired edits, Josh's unique and undeniable talent as a DJ with high energy sets has seen him booked in esteemed venues such as Stealth, XOYO, EGG, Lab11 and Lightbox, and many more.
For our 176th show we welcome Al Zanders, a multifaceted artist hailing from the vibrant music scene of London. His musical journey is punctuated by his renowned edits and stellar productions, making waves with iconic labels like Phonica Records and Roy Davis Jr's Undaground Therapy Muzik. While Al is now based in London, his heart remains in Sheffield, where he operates his beloved label, A-Z Records. The reach of his music is far and wide, from the electrifying Dekmantel Boiler Room set by Midland to the eclectic soundscape of Gilles Peterson's 6 Music show. Renowned names like Leon Vynehall, Denis Sulta, and more have all featured his tracks in their playlists, solidifying Al's reputation as a go-to artist for genre-bending, dancefloor-igniting productions. In fact, his prowess as a producer was so undeniable that it prompted Roy Davis Jr to revive his classic Chicago label, Undaground Therapy Muzik, after 16 years, solely to release Al's 2018 Guidance EP. And the story continues, with Al's music slated for a comeback on the label in summer 2023, alongside a slew of edits and releases in both digital and vinyl formats. Notably, Al's track "Long Gone" has achieved over 3 million streams on Spotify, a testament to his growing influence in the industry. When it comes to his DJing, Al Zanders is all about fun, energy, and soul. Whether he's spinning tunes in an intimate Tokyo basement club, rocking the stage at a massive festival like Lost Village or Gotwood, where he's been hailed as a highlight, or gracing the decks of a renowned venue like XOYO, you can always count on Al to bridge the musical realms of deep, soulful house and disco from around the globe. His sets effortlessly traverse Italo, South African, Anatolian, American, and more, weaving a rich tapestry of sonic experiences. This uninhibited and in-the-moment approach to music is a homage to Sheffield, the city where Al first discovered his passion for DJing and fell in love with the art form. After a brief hiatus, Al is making a triumphant return in 2023 and beyond with an exciting lineup of back-to-back releases on various imprints, proving that he's just getting started on his musical journey. For his Bside Podcast Al Zanders treats us to some of his most cherished records from many genres. The first half hour consists of ambiant, funk and afrobeat, then he moves to all sorts of house music for the final hour. We feature new music from London-based producer & Steppers Club founder @zeferuk as he delivers his debut LP with his ‘Before It Gets Too Late' mixtape. We premiere ‘Games', which sees Zefer team up with @tia-danielle-maria & Tidah for a soulful slice of UKG as the trio intertwine jazzy chords and R&B influences into a joyful celebration of the Steppers Club sound. London-based producer and Steppers Club founder Zefer releases his first LP with his ‘Before It Gets Too Late' mixtape. The project boasts an all-star roster of 12 high-profile features, with Zefer recruiting a variety of rappers and soul singers (with 800,000 combined Spotify monthly users). Zefer arrives on the record fresh off the back of his hugely successful Shawty / No Future release on NewYork's Nervous Records, with the A-Side track receiving extensive support on BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra (Jeremiah Asiamah), Apple Music 1 (Joe Kay) and Soulection Radio. The Steppers Club founder has been in exceptional form in recent months, teaming up with Novelist on his prime-time Reprezent Radio slot whilst also performing sell-out shows at the legendary Printworks (b2b with Riz La Teef) and XOYO. The artist even found time to deliver a full feature interview for UKF on his work behind the scenes running the Steppers Club label. We premiere Zefer's collaboration with Tia Talks & Tidah ‘Games.' The track is a proper collaborative project as the trio merges their individualistic styles, creating a mash of influences drawing from jazz, soul, R&B, house, and Hip-Hop all rolled into a blissful piece of garage that works on both dark dancefloors and car radios. Rolling basslines play off shuffling two-step drum grooves while stabbing chords simmer across orchestral & jazz influences keys for a sun-kissed UKG anthem. LDLDN is DJ, producer - and most importantly - obsessed with music. A host on NTS Radio since 2012, his shows hop between jazz fusion, Detroit techno and anything else that generates a feeling. His SpaceBass parties and DJ sets at the likes of Erol Alkan's ‘To The Rhythm' at XOYO, I Love Acid at Corsica Studios, We Out Here Festival, Lovebox, Tate Modern and Secretsundaze swing easily between dancefloor steppers and more thoughtful, deeper grooves. Movement is key, genres and BPMs - not so much. Founding Natural Frequency Records has allowed LDLDN to bring all that together - releases that are musically diverse and tap into years of experience raving, collecting and dreaming about music. Tracks that aim to capture an emotion or idea in a genuine and interesting way. "My tastes cover so many different styles, tempos and vibes, it's often tricky to choose a particular direction for a mix. But after seeing some of the chaos at a recent Slothboogie party I thought I'd go straight in with some front-foot, late-night house, techno and acid selections to get you moving. A sprinkling of new and old - including stuff on my Natural Frequency label - recorded in one take to capture the energy. Really enjoyed putting this together and hope you do to"

"Performing is everything," says Danielle Moore, and you can tell when she's on stage. The Crazy P front-woman is one of the most cherished and acclaimed vocalists in live music. When she is on stage at the likes of The Big Chill, Bestival, XOYO or Wilde Renate, belting out all manner of catchy cosmic sounds, you cannot fail to be captivated by her energy and style. "When I'm performing I feel like I've stepped into my alter ego and am able to take on any mood. It's very empowering to become detached from my own slightly vulnerable self." It is that charming confidence and that unique exchange of energy with the crowd which makes her every performance an utter thrill.

Founder of Boy's Own and Junior Boys Own and an active part of Defected sub-label Faith, Terry Farley is a bonafide house legend. Teaming up with XOYO and Music Box Radio resident Wade Teo, the duo recruit New York-based spoken word artist Kameelah Waheed for a party-starting house cut on Radio Slave's Rekids. Terry Farley and Wade Teo team up with Kameelah Waheed to release their new track ‘Why We Dance' on the hugely respected Rekids imprint. The release is joined with two varied remixes that also make their way onto Radio Slave's legendary label. Some Rekids alumni include Carl Cox, Ian Pooley, Mark Broom, Hybrasil, Commix, X-Coast and many more.Across the A-side, robust drums, rocking low end, and piano stabs combine to provide the perfect backdrop for Kameelah Waheed's infectious vocal. This jackin' house track is a cleverly crafted production with a catchy hook and pulsating groove throughout. On the flip, Farley and Teo deliver their ‘Lonely Dancer Remix' to kick off the B-side, adding subtle percussions and floating pads for a grooving rework. Rounding out the release, Farley recruits Kevin Swain for the collaborative ‘Angels Take Control' remix, with dubbed-out claps, menacing low-end combining for a heads-down closing track. We've made it to the milestone episode 30! After all the guests i've had in the past from a wide variety of backgrounds and professions I'm finally here. Who better to have on as a guest to hit this milestone with than a voice of the future? The elegant and sophisticated Saïna! Had to organise and host 2 concerts but yes I finally have a British artist on here (sorry not sorry) lol It may be episode 30 but we hit a lot of firsts with this one. Saïna is my first guest who is a British recording artist, first guest of Japanese heritage and first guest to have performed at my concert! We talk about her journey into music, the inner workings of her process and how it's all been so far. As much as you might see things online about how it all works, there are a lot of gems in there on how the music industry in the UK is like. Between this and the last episode a few big events have taken place:1. Hear:HER International Women's Day concert which I organised with Asian Tones and hosted Saïna and 5 other amazing up and coming Asian artists (Pritt, Lucy Tun, Lila Yin, Kaisha, Keydott). Good turn out and really positive responses at the iconic XOYO, Shoreditch!2. The Migration Museum opened the Taking Care Of Business exhibition in Lewisham which tells the story of migrants who have come to the UK and set up the shops which make up the heart and soul of neighbourhoods across the UK. Chinese takeaways, corner shops, laundry mats and much more, it's a preservation of an untold legacy which has paved the way for . Angela Hui (TimeOut journalist and author of Takeaway) curated the takeaway section where she recreated the shop front she grew up with and featured pictures of takeaway fronts across the UK, one of them being mine. There are also interviews she conducted with takeaway kids too which can be heard on the wall phone, mine is number 4! 3. I did a podcast episode with Saïna for her podcast Lost In The Mix! So this is a nice little swapsies situation we have. After you've listened to this episode go and listen to the episode I did with her!And with that thank you everybody who's made it with me this far. Go check out all the guests i've had in the past and until next time, peace!SaïnaWebsite: http://sainamusic.com Instagram: @baby.zeenhttps://www.instagram.com/baby.zeenLost In The Mix Podcast:https://lostinthemix.buzzsprout.comCrazy Brit Asian Instagram: @crazybritasian https://www.instagram.com/crazybritasianFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/crazybritasian/
DJ to some of London's best nights, a classically trained musician and long-time face of Soho's legendary Black Market Records, Hilit Kolet is the need-to-know artist ready to take the world by storm. Her debut production, ‘Techno Disco', came out on Defected in fall 2021 and is loved and supported by Jovonn, Todd Edwards, Harry Romero, Heidi Lawden, John Summit, Roger Sanchez, Terry Farely, Riva Starr, Syreeta and many more. It reached #1 on Music Week's Upfront Club Chart, #1 on Traxsource's House chart and #3 on Shazam's UK discovery chart, making it one of 2021's biggest records. Hilit is also known for her hi-octane DJ sets and has wowed the crowds at XOYO, Ministry of Sound, Egg Club, Dalston Superstore in London, Renate, Sisyphons, Ritter Butzke in Berlin and elsewhere around the globe. "I originally had a different concept for this mix in mind but then the gutting news from Ukraine came in and I tossed it out; instead, I just wanted to jam. Blasting out loud dance music of all sorts had been my way of coping with life as a child, and in that sense, it's still how I deal with sh!t to date, so yesterday I took advantage of this mix and let it out. This is the result - house and techno with a dash of disco, a ton of passion, and a message of love to this world." - @hilitkolet
Next up on our ReBirth mixtape series is a new comer making her debut appearance at Egg London this Saturday for Gold Diggers. DJ to some of London's most exclusive nights, a classically trained musician and long-time face of Soho's legendary Black Market Records, Hilit Kolet is the need-to-know artist ready to take the world by storm. Tel Aviv born but a Londoner through-and-through, Hilit has now revealed her debut production ‘Techno Disco' with house music institution Defected, a jacking, club-ready cut which is setting dancefloors alight, from an artist who defies easy classification. Growing up in a musical home with a piano teacher Mum and a jazzholic Dad meant Hilit Kolet had rhythm for breakfast and melodies for lunch and played the piano before she could tie her shoelaces. As a teenager in Israel, she began to DJ and swiftly made it onto national prime-time radio, presenting dance music shows on TV and founding & editing the local equivalent to DJ Mag. Hilit packed her bags and booked a one-way ticket to London to pursue what she calls ‘THE DREAM', the turning point in her journey as a selector. Kickstarting her career in the industry working for MTV, she then became a key staff member of iconic vinyl retailer Black Market Records, spending every moment possible soaking up the capital's unique club culture and adding every experience to her already encyclopedic knowledge of the culture. Known for her hi-octane DJ sets, Hilit's musical wonderland seamlessly drifts between the extensive and diverse districts of house, techno, disco and electronica. Securing shows at London's best venues Egg London, XOYO, Dalston Superstore & Spiritland, to name just a few, she also holds down high-profile residencies at members clubs Chiltern Firehouse and The Ned and is well versed in the UK and international festival circuits. While Hilit says London is where her heart will always remain, she has played regular shows in Berlin and toured cities across the globe. Her debut production, ‘Techno Disco', is out now on House music institution Defected and is loved and supported by the likes of Jovonn, Todd Edwards, Sam Divine, Syreeta, Harry Romero, Roger Sanchez, Heidi Lawden, John Summit, Joseph Capriati, Terry Farely, Eli Brown, Marco Faraone, Jodie Harsh, Supernova, Riva Starr, Severino, Michelle Manetti and many others; it has already reached #1 on Traxsource's House chart and #3 on Shazam's discovery chart. With quite a few exciting studio projects & collaborations in the pipeline, it marks the next phase of Hilit Kolet's illustrious, diverse career. Play it loud, ready for her set this weekend on the Middle Floor!

TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ BIRDEE # 033 - PART 2 By no means a newcomer - but a fresh face on the disco scene, Birdee has been extremely active in the last few years - releasing and remixing on labels such as Glitterbox, Big Love and Hot Sunday, dj'ing around the globe, and even picking up an award for best break- through dj at London's Fabric. His music is supported by a veritable who's who of dance music: dj's as diverse as Groove Armada, Purple Disco Machine, Horse Meat Disco and Claptone have all been spinning his tracks, while radio support has also been outstanding - as a matter of fact, Pete Tong recently opened his show with Birdee's breakout single Start The Weekend. Behind the decks, he is equally at ease playing a big festival stage as he is playing an intimate club: recent shows at Xoyo in London and Exchange in LA have been a testament to his ability to adapt to the crowd whilst never compromising his sound. After releasing debut album Then Came The Sun in 2019, a collaboration with legendary singer Barbara Tucker and a successful tour of Australia in 2020 - Birdee has started the year topping the Traxsource Nu Disco charts on two separate occasions. His next single What You Need is released on Hot Sunday at the end of February.
Lou Hayter has been a recognisable face on the London music scene since the mid-noughties, when she rose to prominence as part of the ludicrously stylish Mercury nominated electro-pop band, New Young Pony Club. Since then, she has maintained a presence at the always-evolving intersection between music and fashion, building a reputation as a DJ as comfortable at peak-time in the basement of XOYO as at the launches of some of the world’s most desirable brands (Chanel, Miu Miu, Chloe and Paul Smith all have Hayter on their books). Lou Hayter’s contribution to the #PHANTASYMIX series weaves similarly singular gems against a steady thread of disco and deep house, featuring music from Moodymann, Maria Minerva and Dream 2 Science. Read the short accompanying interview here: https://shop.phantasysound.co.uk/blogs/news/phantasymix-31-lou-hayter
@aghnes_she AGHNES had a burning desire to establish a proper female house & techno collective in Rome. With her lifetime partner in crime Ameliée they co-found She Made in 2013. She Made is an ambitious all female party concept and label. They started with a weekly residency at Rashomon Club, Rome, soon the project started growing and turned She Made one of the 10 most prominent events in Italy. They then moved the residency at Goa Club. She Made showcases are being hosted in different clubs between the north and south of Italy and European clubs such as Golden Gate in Berlin and Fabric in London Having grown up on an eclectic combination of house and techno music she travelled to explore the clubbing and music scene in the rest of Europe and so ending up with quite a mixed spectrum of musical influence. Her strong love for club culture translates into sets where she picks apart and infuses together all the pieces of this music she likes best. Micro house, break beats and groovy sounds characterize her style. In 2015 Aghnes moved to London becoming DJ Resident at ‘ We Play the Music We Love’, label and party collective. Since then she got a deeper insight of the London underground scene and started playing in the most popular clubs, to name just a few: Fabric, EGG Lnd, FOLD, The Bridge, Basing House, XOYO, Bloc. And also around Warehouse events hosted by Point, Keep on going, The Sunday afters and more

Yuri Boselie has been an integral figure in the Dutch electronic music scene for many years. Based in Amsterdam he has worked tirelessly holding down residencies at the likes of Club 11 and Trouw for many years and he now rules the roost at the infamous De School. He is closely affiliated with both the Dekmantel crew and Rush Hour and has crafted a unique take on dance and club focussed music by taking risks and playing whatever, whenever. You never know quite whar your going to get from one of his sets and over the years he has blown the roof off of clubs with curveball selections across the realm of house, techno, garage, hip hop and all the spaces in between. As a producer he has worked with a number of labels and has released music both independently and collaboratively with the likes of Breach and Tom Trago. This Wednesday will also see him announce the launch of a brand new label. All of the above is tied up with a regular show on Red Light radio which acts as an outlet for his own experimentation and love of music. On the 27th of December he will join a heavy hitting line up at XOYO as part of the Dekmantel Soundystem residency where he will play alongside Antal, Orpheu The Wizard and Interstellar Funk We invited him to record a mix which he does in fine spirit.

Enjoy this live recording of the Plump DJs (Grand Hotel Recordings) from the Space Cowboys' 13th annual Breakfast of Champions in San Francisco on New Year's Day. The Plumps were a surprise, unannounced addition to the line-up this year and to the delight of an unsuspecting crowd, they lit up the Funktion One stage as the sun was setting on yet another epic B.O.C. Big thanks to Lee and Andy for rocking Breakfast of Champions and for making this recording available to The RIPEcast. We hope you like it! Plumps DJs are internationally renown UK DJ/Producer duo Andy Gardner and Lee Rous, whose passion for innovation and non-conformist attitude to electronic music has fuelled their fire for over a decade. Their unmistakeable signature sound has earned them recent remix commissions from the likes of Deadmau5, Mark Ronson, Moby and Orbital while their four deck live show has lead to countless international tours and shows at London's lead music venues XOYO, Fabric and the Nest. Self admitted suckers for bass and 'the groove' Gardner&Rous fuse Electro-House, Rave, Acid, Breakbeat and Techno into their own unique style they call 'Plump Music'. They have received years of unprecedented cross genre support from the electro and bass music scenes, and their success continues to grow with their well supported 'Dirty Weekend' mix on newly formed record label, Grand Hotel Records. Dirty Weekend is the appropriately named new mix from the Plumps, containing dance floor focused music from recent Plump inspirations The Loops of Fury, Detboi, Reset!, Nom De Strip, Blatta&Inesha, Urchins and Will Bailey. Plus sterling exclusive remixes from longtime compadres NAPT, Stanton Warriors and Peo De Pitte. It also features original music from freshly signed Grand Hotel Records artistes, Bonsai Kat and SUBMO. Dirty Weekend has gathered support and plays from the likes of BBC Radio 1 DJ's Annie Mac, Mista Jam and Annie Nightingale, galvanizing an already established list of Plump enthusiasts which includes A. Track, Zinc Porter Robinson, Laidback luke, Armand Van Helden, Norman Cook and Carl Cox. The Plump DJs have a compelling history of success, cemented by their musical collaborations with legendary vocalists Gary Numan, Jermaine Jackson and Louise Rhodes, a ten year residency at Fabric Nightclub and over 1200 international shows. They are true innovators of sound who proudly co-created the popular breakbeat genre of the last decade with their initial releases on Fingerlickin Records. Known as pioneers of production whose shared passion for electronic music and the art of making people dance, they have inspired a generation of dance floor experiments. The ever evolving sound of Plump Djs continues to be met with enthusiasm from discerning dance music fans worldwide. Listen then to the sound of Plump Music.
