She grew up in Centreville, VA reciving lessons from long-time coach, Varden Dyer at The Northern Virginia Golf Academy (Clifton Ponds). She attended Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA. While attending Westfield, Kara was a four year varsity golfer. She was coached under The Golf Channel's PGA Professional, Erika Larkin as well as LPGA Teaching Professional and fellow US Kids Golf instructor, Tarah Miller. Kara founded the Division III women's golf program at Marymount University in Arlington, VA. She played on its inagural 2014-2015 team her senior year.
