Riverview Hospital was an early big investor in Westfields downtown redevelopment and made a big splash with their hospital at our main intersection. Because of that build the Westfield High School stadium was funded and they played a big role in local charities beyond their typical services. Dave Hyatt took over a short time ago and has big plans for growth as they plant permanently in Westfield. As hospitals compete for customers its ones like Riverview that stand out as they truly serve the community. Enjoy and feel free to comment below.
Nick Hardwick, a central Indiana native and former Purdue Boilermaker, recently launched a group called the Men of Westfield. The group, which began in May, provides a forum for men to open up about their mental health issues. After a successful career as a center at Purdue, Hardwick played 11 seasons for the San Diego Chargers, and was a team captain for five of those seasons.Hardwick is an assistant coach on the Westfield High School football team. But like most middle-aged men, he had a difficult time transitioning to a new career once his playing days were over.Hardwick said men often suppress their emotions especially when balancing the challenges of work and family life. The group recently had its first meeting; about 30 people attended. Hardwick decided to set the tone by sharing his experiences. “I shared and became very vulnerable amongst a bunch of men I didn't really know. I knew some but didn't really know a bunch of them, but I think, for me, that's the best way to build a connection is to become vulnerable to open yourself up.”The Men of Westfield will meet again at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Motor District, an automobile storage facility in Westfield. It's northwest of the roundabout at West 176th Street and Ditch Road. Register online to attend the meeting. At the meeting, donations will be taken to support mental health and food insecurity in the Westfield Washington Schools district.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

His accomplishments at Westfield High School helped him earn a scholarship to Georgia Tech. However, as a freshman, AJ managed to secure only 12 at-bats in what was a very difficult transition to the next level. In Episode 20, AJ discusses his challenges as a freshman and why he decided to remain at Georgia Tech despite having opportunities to transfer after his freshman year. AJ went on to a successful college career and was ultimately drafted in the 15th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Minnesota Twins.AJ talks about the persistence required to become a successful college athlete and how those lessons have translated into his current career as a business executive. My suggestion to high school student-athletes would be to focus on the process of self-improvement rather than comparing yourself to others. Further, the grass isn't always greener on the other side as the saying goes. Persistence through difficulties can pay big dividends long-term.I want to thank AJ for his kind generosity and the wisdom he shared with The Freshman Foundation Community. You can follow AJ on Instagram @aj__murray. You can learn more about The Freshman Foundation on our website at freshmanfoundation.com.Thank you for listening. We'll see you back soon for Episode 21!

Episode 175: An entrepreneur since age 15, Alex Hodara tells us why he created Rocket Club to teach 9 to 14-year old students robotics, coding, and entrepreneurship. Guest Biography Entrepreneur Alex Hodara is the owner of Hodara Real Estate Group, an investment and development company he founded as a brokerage in 2008. Hodara launched the venture during his junior year at Boston University, hiring 15 of his classmates and launching what CNBC coined as “America’s first student run real estate brokerage.” Upon graduation with his B.B.A. from the distinguished Questrom School of Business, the success of Hodara’s firm landed him on Forbes’ “30 Under 30” and Bloomberg Businessweek’s “Best Young Entrepreneurs” lists. Hodara bought, renovated, and rented his first building in 2011, and today owns 200 multifamily units between Boston and Jersey City, just outside of Manhattan. In 2018 Hodara sponsored a STEM competition at Westfield High School in New Jersey. Inspired by the student’s brilliant engineering ideas and desire for elevated entrepreneurial support, he developed Rocket Club, an award winning, selffinanced robotics, coding and entrepreneurship club for kids. Hodara officially launched this passion project in February 2019 in Hoboken, New Jersey and word spread fast; with new locations popping up in Montclair, NJ, Upper West Side New York, Lower Manhattan, The British International School of NYC, and a free program in Newark, NJ during the first year of operation. Rocket Club went on to win the 2019 NJ Tech Council’s Innovation and Education Award, and STEM Leader to Watch Award. Each location was near capacity when COVID-19 hit the world, in March 2020. Hodara and the Rocket Club team quickly pivoted to a fully virtual model, providing free education to members through the fall of 2020. In the process, enrollment soared as parents sought out additional resources for their children who were distance learning. Rocket Club’s virtual curriculum is four semesters, and teaches members to develop their own businesses, learn Python coding, and build robotics. Each day, Rocket Club hosts Rocket Club Live, an interactive, educational game show and Q&A featuring a successful guest. Guests have included the founders of Netflix, Beyond Meat, Casper Mattresses, Harry’s Razors, Vonage, and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics to name a few. In this episode, you'll learn: We get a glimpse into the entrepreneur’s mind. Building a curriculum designed to expose kids to as much as possible to inspire and help them decide what they want to be when they’re older. How Alex is investing his own money to cultivate entrepreneurs of the future. In today’s podcast, I interview a friend of mine since high school (shout-out to Westfield High School!). Lexi Tourtellotte DiYeso is an incredibly driven woman, not only physically (she was a collegiate soccer player, and continues her physical prowess being a personal trainer and keeping fitness as one of her top priorities), but also mentally and spiritually. Lexi is the founder and owner of her brick and mortar clothing boutique “Hazel Twenty”, as well as Hazel’s offspring “Maisie Twenty Kids Boutique”, both located in Asheville, North Carolina. Lexi also runs a wellness retreat on Cat Island in the Bahamas called “Complete Retreat”. In this episode, we talk about Lexi’s soccer history and how it’s helped shape her in navigating many decisions in life, particularly in being a female entrepreneur. We talk about how persistence pays off when going after your dreams, as well as vision boarding and pivoting in life when the unexpected happens. I have a feeling that you are going to find yourself doing some on-line shopping at Lexi’s boutiques after hearing this episode (and if you’re lucky enough to be near the Asheville, NC area, I bet you’ll be making a trip over to her stores to check all of the goodness that is Hazel Twenty and the Maisie Twenty Kids Boutique). When she isn’t busy running her stores and thinking of her next project, you can find Lexi doing something in nature with her 3 sons and her 2 dogs!Sit back, enjoy and start thinking of your fall wardrobe!!
Bill Brown spent nearly 40 years coaching college basketball at both the Division I and Division III levels, with 29 of those years as a head coach. He was the head coach at Wittenberg University for 23 seasons. He retired in 2016 and remains the longest tenured and most successful head coach in the history of Wittenberg University, which just happens to be the winningest program in the history of Division III basketball. During his time at Witt, Coach Brown led his teams to 12 NCAA tournaments, 4 Elite Eight appearances and 2 Final Fours. Coach Brown retired with an overall career record of 543-266 (483-167 at Wittenberg), and was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame on May of 2018. What does a guy do in retirement after that kind of career? Wel, Bill Brown has served as a volunteer assistant coach at Westfield High School in Indianapolis for the past 4 years. Why? Because more than anything else, Bill Brown is a basketball lifer. He loves hoops and values the chance to continue to give back to the game that has given him so very much! Please enjoy my conversation with Bill Brown of Wittenberg University. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jon-cook0/support
An Athletic Trainer's chosen mindset is crucial during these different and, in many ways, difficult times. Athletic Trainers have always had to demonstrate calmness and composure during the emergency situations we deal with in our professional settings. Are we still demonstrating that calmness and composure during these times? In this cATalyzing Podcast for ATs episode, Chris Flores, ATC joins Ryan Stevens to discuss how athletic trainers are "built for this". Also discussed are some coping strategies to keep calm during difficult times and effective daily planning and productivity strategies. In having to be adaptable, what are some other ways athletic trainers can use the skill sets we already possess in a different way to be productive and showcase value in the ever-changing work post-COVID? Chris and Ryan get into this. Chris Flores, ATC is the owner of FLO Fitness, Co-creator of the Rooted Rehab Certification, Adjunct Professor at Kean University and the former Head Athletic Trainer for Westfield High School. During his 8 years there he discovered many of the same issue that most athletic trainers face trying to manage long hours, family life and personal success. This lead him to creating the FLO-OSOPHY Mindset Program. Chris believes you can have it all in life as long as you define what that means to you.
