In this episode, I'm opening up about an experience I've had recently where I went beyond my limits and fell face-first in the mud. It was humbling. It was deeply revelatory. It was a lesson on the path I'm devoted to growing through. It was a very RAW refinement of the very core message I'm here to share. I'm getting into all the details in the episode, but one thing is for sure... There's NO empowerment without cyclicality. Invitations:

Peggy Van Arnam has been making jewelry since she found herself with a skirt with which she had “nothing to wear.” During her career as a university administrator, she searched for unusual beads and stones as she traveled and made jewelry for herself and her family. In retirement she began taking classes, selling her pieces and approaching jewelry making as a business. Thus Uniquely Yours! was born. In 2002 Peggy co-founded a still thriving cooperative gallery in Upstate New York and remained a member until moving to Cary in 2016.Uniquely Yours! specializes in sterling, glass and gemstone jewelry. Using these materials, Peggy creates one-of-a-kind necklaces, bracelets and earrings. She is perhaps best known for her sterling chains and her work with Venetian glass. Many pieces of jewelry have a story behind them; some are custom designed. And making pieces longer or shorter to suit the customer is a common occurrence. After all, making it uniquely yours is what it's all about! Despite our differences in ethnicity, culture, and race, have you ever wondered if there is a common language of the soul we all speak? Would you like to find out? Join Dominick Domingo and me on Wednesday, June 14th, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. CST U.S. Our conversation is about his remarkable life's journey and the unique insights on how we are products of the stories we've been exposed to and collectively humanity is the sum of its history! Dominick is a veteran Disney Feature Animation artist and live-action filmmaker whose award-winning narrative nonfiction essays and short stories have been included in anthologies. His Young Adult Fantasy trilogy, The Nameless Prince, launched in 2012 through Twilight Times Books has been capturing imaginations since. His book The Seeker represents Dominick's foray into Mythic Visionary Fiction. It is a universal parable about Transformation that speaks to the journey we all share. In The Language of the Soul: How Story Became the Means By Which We Transform, Dominick shares how we are products of the stories we've been exposed to as individuals. Collectively, humanity is the sum of its history. More potent than persuasion by far, storytelling changes minds by touching hearts. We may or may not be fully aware that in all cultures, Stories and Narratives permeate our life every day, from the literary arena through cinema to social media, branding, advertising, political campaigning, and propaganda. Why are we truly driven to tell stories in the first place, and how have stories become how we transform? Dominick's Artist Journey reveals the transformative power of narrative and what it is to be a born storyteller, with a call to action to embrace the power of STORY in our lives.

Autumn Cobeland is a painter, muralist, triathlete, and Raleigh native. She holds a degree in Fine Arts and studied art in Florence, Italy. Her prints and paintings can be seen in galleries, shops, and private collections both nationally and internationally. Autumn has created a series of paintings devoted to the Triangle Greenway System, and she donates a percentage of the proceeds from print sales to the support of local greenways. Her studio is located in Artspace in downtown Raleigh. As an artist, Autumn's medium is paint. There is a term in the Japanese language “wabi sabi” it means (roughly) a celebration and appreciation for human-made objects that have imperfections. In our digital, computerized world, it is possible to create images to near perfection, clean lines, bright colors, and clear edges. Autumn is a painter, so the idea of spending hours in front of a computer to design her art is not nearly as appealing as playing with the color mixtures and placing brush to paper or canvas and developing some “wabi sabi” results. Susan Hensel's new innovative artwork, which blends commercial embroidery processes with sculptural concerns, is gaining attention and awards. Her knowledge of materials makes it possible for her to create small to large-scale hard-edge sculpture from soft fabrics that paradoxically keep their crisp form with minimal armatures. Her knowledge of the physics of color allows her to create shape-shifting displays employing the special reflective characteristics of embroidery thread with the goal to create opportunities to experience awe, rest and renewal in daily life.Susan Hensel received her BFA from University of Michigan with a double major in painting and sculpture and a concentration in ceramics. She has a history, to date, of more than 300 exhibitions, 35 of them solo, twenty + garnering awards. In the coming two years, Susan has solo and 2-person and group exhibitions scheduled in Ellicot, MD; Bloomington, MN ; Hopkins, MN; Duluth, MN and the Garrett Museum of Art, Garrett, Indiana. Sarah and Ping are joined by Ema Malyauka, a self taught children's book illustrator, whose Belarusian surname translates to ‘drawing'. Ema discusses her creative process, sharing invaluable advice for young artists, and her journey as a self taught artist from knowing nothing about the industry to becoming a successful illustrator KEY TAKEAWAYS Ema struggled at school with regular lessons, but attended art classes outside of school and constantly received high praise from her teachers. Despite this, Ema decided against attending university to study art and began a journey of self teaching, learning from books, short courses, friends and other artists. Ema is a lifelong fan of childrens books. From an early age she collected childrens books and images from the internet. When she finally decided to become an illustrator she did not hesitate to specialise in childrens illustrations. Ema's first professional experience was working with a friend who self published their own books. She recommends this to all young artists as it was an opportunity to learn her trade and make mistakes without the pressure that comes with working with an established publishing house. When she started her career she didn't know anything about the professional world of illustration including publishers and portfolio's, but she found advice and guidance from fellow artists online that helped her career flourish. To generate her own stories, Ema asks herself a question central to her idea and then makes a library of images and thoughts as well as researching other fairy tales through books and podcasts to ‘feed her brain.' Ema also recommends creating a nice environment to work in. She finds that she has more inspiration if she covers her sketchbooks in colourful fabric instead of leaving them with their natural covers. Some of Ema's favourite illustrators include Adolf Born, Jiří Šalamoun, André François and Varya Yakovleva BEST MOMENTS “It's a great time for the illustration world because of the increase of mobile phones and tablets, everything has to be more visually pleasing.” “I always recommend young artists to try a project with a friend. You'll be more relaxed, not afraid to make mistakes and get an understanding of the process.” “Find people in the illustration world online. They are lovely people and will be happy to help and advise you.” “Don't compare your journey to others. Your journey is what makes you unique as an illustrator.” EPISODE RESOURCES Ema Malyauka www.instagram.com/ema_malyauka Adolf Born https://historiek.net/de-wondere-wereld-van-adolf-born/146693/ Jiří Šalamoun https://www.pametnaroda.cz/en/salamoun-jiri-1935 André François https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/André_François Varya Yakovleva https://www.instagram.com/varya__yakovleva/following/?hl=en ABOUT THE PODCAST A serious and fun podcast for female creatives hosted by Ping, Dorien and Sarah, three happy artists from Amsterdam. Kyle Wilson is a photographer from Selma NC. He is originally from southern Maryland where he became fascinated by Rural America. Kyle uses a technique called High Dynamic Range photography (HDR). It is an evolving form of art that enables the photographer to capture and display the full range of light that can be realized by the human eye. To Kyle art is a representation of the world we experience and all forms of photography fall within this sphere. He achieves his signature look by taking multiple exposures of the same scene and then blending the exposures to create the final photograph. Brittany Schmitt is a comedian, writer and podcaster. She currently has a new comedy special from Ho to Housewife where (her words) she quite literally went From Ho to Housewife. She crafted a comedy special that tackles her experience of sex, drugs and basketball, plus a lot more. It's very funny. Here's a little snippet from her life story which blew me away. Brittany fu*ked up and got a DUI. Super depressed, mortified, broke and with her back up against a wall, a friend suggested that she try stand-up because it was ‘cheaper than therapy' and she could laugh at herself. The first time she stepped on stage, she knew that's what she was born to do. The road hasn't been easy, nor has it been exactly linear. So, she made up her mind to get sober, get her sh*t together and get serious about comedy. Most recently, Brittany appeared on Comedy Central's Stand-Up Featuring her debut comedy special, of course, titled From Ho to Housewife which premiered on 800 Pound Gorilla's YouTube channel. Links are in the episode notes below if you'd like to listen to it. So, as you can imagine, we dive deep and cover a lot, such as meeting Usher, going to jail, drugs, alcohol and getting sober, her new comedy special, her holistic forward moving mindset, gratitude, intuition and happiness. The video footage of this entire chat is now out as well (one day after release)!
