Bibs and Reese discuss the additions of Spencer Dinwiddie and Kessler Edwards this past week and where they fall in the rotation. Is Dinwiddie a key role player or simply bench depth? Is Kessler Edwards the most serious 2-way addition the Mavs have made? It was nice to have some Mavs news to discuss, but that's not all we discussed. D-Lo & KC talk about Kessler Edwards, CM Punk and the importance of tomorrow's Kings-Warriors game.
Kings Defeat Timberwolves 93-80 In this episode of The Royal Report I discuss the active and athletic defense of the Summer Kings, Jordan Ford continuing to make a run at a roster spot, and Kessler Edwards finally shining offensively.
The Kings get back in the win column at Summer League by decisively beating the Wolves. The Kings got solid games from the usual suspects, Jordan Ford, Kessler Edwards and Keon Ellis, but they were also aided by surprise showings from Alex O'Connell and Chance Comanche. The Kings will play the Bucks on Saturday in what could be their final Summer League game this year. Marc Stein reported the availability of Pascal Siakam has changed and the Raptors are now more open to trading him. Could he be moved soon? And would that cause a cascading effect that could affect the Damian Lillard and Jame Harden trades? In this episode of The Royal Report I discuss Kessler Edwards and Davion Mitchell making a huge defensive impact, the Kings bench dominating the Suns bench, and Keegan Murray's defensive flaws.
The Bench Mob game, the Kings came out looking rough, giving anything the Suns wanted on defense, and on offense, they weren't bad but not at the peak of their powers. But then the bench came, and they were the stars of this game. They combined for 65 points and in a game where no one from the starters exploded, they needed all of it. Kessler and Davion changed the game on the defensive end and Trey and Malik provided the offensive boost, and Mezi made plays on both ends. The star amongst this 5-man group, the DPOG: Kessler Edwards. He guarded Devin Booker and made things tough on him, he guarded Chris Paul and bothered him with his length. He snatched rebounds, got deflection and hit dagger 3s. It was his night and he came in at just the right time. The Kings have now reached 40 wins in a season for the first time since the 2005-06 season, and Mike Brown is the first coach since Rick Adelman to win 40 games as the Head Coach of the Sacramento Kings. It is another marker for how special this season has been for the Kings. The Kings still have a tough road ahead of them but tonight was another great win for the Kings as they step up to the challenge once again down the stretch of the season. In this episode of The Royal Report I discuss the Kings having one of their worst defensive efforts of the season, Kevin Huerter finding his stroke, and Kessler Edwards giving the Kings a spark defensively.
In the first game of the back to back series against Mavs, the Kings came out flat to say the least, getting outscored 45-25 in the first quarter, and that was basically the game. The Kings actually outscored the Mavs in every quarter after the 1st but that was the difference in the game as the Kings lost by 8 points. The other difference, 3 point shooting, the Mavs were smoking hot from 3, the Kings couldn't buy a 3. It was a deflating game for the Kings to lose to the Mavs without their best player, but there was hope that the Mavs cool down from 3 the next game and the Kings heat up a bit to balance things out. That was not the case, instead, both teams doubled down on what they did well the 1st game, the Mavs stayed scorching from 3, the Kings attacked the paint relentlessly. The Kings did play a better more balanced game, not giving up 45 in the 1st was good, but they were overall more focused on both offense and defense, and also rebounding. TD gave them a huge boost, while Fox came alive in the 4th and OT to close out the game. Good bounce back by the Kings to remain as the 3rd seed in the Western Conference. Owen and Fong also give their thoughts after the passing of the trade deadline, on what they thought of the Kings not making any moves other than Kessler Edwards, and what other teams did, mostly revolving around 2nd round picks. Adam Armbrecht is on the comeback trail for Brooklyn. Following the game one loss in Boston, there are more than a few fingers to point. Adam discusses moving away from Andre Drummond in the starting unit, and the secondary holes it creates. There are team philosophies that seem to prevent the Nets from utilizing veterans likes Blake Griffin, which opens the door for a larger minute share for rookie Kessler Edwards. With Steve Nash in the hot seat, Adam also reviews the closing sequences for the Nets that led to the loss and finds more than enough blame to go around the Nets locker room. With the season down to the last couple of games, the Nets are still going to need to rely on Patty Mills down the stretch and then for whatever playoff run they make. The Nets closed out their four game road trip in disgusting fashion, losing 136-125 to the Timberwolves. Adam discusses the struggles for James Harden, specifically his inability to shift to another facet of his game. Kessler Edwards early foul trouble highlighted not only the thin depth currently on this roster but also the rookie's incredible value to this team, especially in the absence of Kevin Durant and Joe Harris. Lastly, Adam looks at the Steve Nash decision making following LaMarcus Aldridge picking up his sixth foul. While rookie Day'ron Sharpe has not been without his growing pains, inserting James Johnson to a "small ball" lineup and facing the task of Karl-Anthony Towns certainly seemed to see the Nets fate. What a win by the Nets over the Bulls on Wednesday. They put everything together just when the team needed it the most in a statement victory over a Chicago team that was sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference. With Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving all playing, it was easy to see why this squad is still the favorite to win the championship. They pulled away with a huge third quarter that saw them go on a 30-8 run and essentially end if for the Bulls. The Locked on Nets guys discuss the Scary Hours Big 3 as well as the adjustment Steve Nash made to put Kessler Edwards and Day'Ron Sharpe into the starting lineup.
