The Washington Capitals have signed forward Ryan Leonard to a three-year, entry-level contract, effective immediately, which has an average annual value of $950,000 and extends through the 2026-27 season. Leonard, who was drafted eighth overall in the 2023 NHL Draft, is set to make his NHL debut against the Boston Bruins. At just 20 years old, he brings significant energy to the Capitals, who are focused on the Stanley Cup Playoffs. His impressive collegiate career at Boston College saw him record 60 points in his freshman year and lead the NCAA with 30 goals in his second season, earning him multiple accolades, including recognition as the Hockey East Player of the Year.Leonard has also made a mark internationally, helping Team USA secure gold at the IIHF World Junior Championships in both of the last two years and was named MVP this past January. He has a connection to the number 9, which he wore during his time at Boston College and with Team USA, possibly influenced by his brother, John Leonard, who also wore that number in college. Head coach Spencer Carbery has been following Leonard's progress closely and remains supportive as Leonard navigates the challenges following his team's recent loss in the NCAA Tournament.Use code MINUTECAST - $20 off your first SeatGeek order:https://seatgeek.onelink.me/RrnK/teamseatgeekCrush your New Life resolution with Righteous Felon Jerky 15% off with promo: MINUTECAST https://www.righteousfelon.com/?ref=MINUTECAST

John Dickinson and Greg Silver break down a choppy 113-103 win for the Warriors (15-12) over the Timberwolves (14-13), in which they were carried by Stephen Curry's 31 points, 13 of which came in the 4th quarter. The Dubs build a 21-point lead early, but the Timberwolves stormed back to regain a lead in the 3rd quarter. Ultimately, the Dubs were propelled by a late Curry flurry, with the help of Trayce Jackson-Davis (15 PTS, 7-8 FG), Brandin Podziemski (12 PTS, 5-9 FG), and the defense of Andrew Wiggins. The Warriors will return home to face the Indiana Pacers (13-15) on Monday before their Christmas showdown vs the Lakers (16-12)See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
After a tough loss to the Florida Panthers on Monday, the Edmonton Oilers got themselves back in the win column with a comeback effort against the Boston Bruins. Was it the prettiest win you'll ever see? No. Does it matter when you get two points? Also, no... maybe. We started the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a delicious debate about the Oilers' new defensive pairings from practice this morning. Although Kris Knoblauch doesn't mix up his D-pairings very often, this morning's practice showed a significant shift away from the status quo. Do you like the new pairings? Do you hate them? Are you confused by the change like Baggedmilk? The answers were all over the map.Changing gears, we looked back at Thursday's win over the Bruins and how the Oilers secured the victory despite not playing their best game. A big part of that win was Leon Draisaitl's seventh consecutive multi-point night, which gave him 50 on the year and 900 points in his career. We also discussed Viktor Arvidsson's return to the lineup and how a devastating hit in the corner arguably punctuated his first night back on the ice. Finally, we finished the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots, betting talk, and Hot and Cold Performers to wrap up the week. With all of the serious Oilers talk out of the way, it's always nice to wind down with a little bit of shenanigans, and there was plenty of that in the second episode of the week. As for what next week's schedule looks like, we'll be taking Tuesday off to enjoy Christmas Eve before getting right back on it for the Friday episode of the pod.

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde have a chance to talk about a Trojan football victory after USC took care of business by beating Rutgers 42-20 Friday night in the Coliseum. Coach feels like the Men of Troy needed this win badly after losing three straight and sporting a losing record for the first time in Lincoln Riley's head coaching career. The Scarlet Knights were an overmatched opponents and both teams were dealing with significant injuries, but USC did what it needed to do and put up good numbers that the program can build upon heading into the final four games of the regular season. It was a unique Friday sports night in Los Angeles with just a few miles of freeway separating USC hosting Rutgers, the Lakers hosting the Phoenix Suns and the Dodgers hosting the New York Yankees. Coach talks about all that was going on in the City of Angels and the part the Trojans played in the historic night. Coming out of that game, players were smiling again and that is very important for the psyche of a young student athlete. They could go to class on Monday with their heads up and there is more joy in the locker room and at the football facilities knowing that the team got an important victory. Following the win, the fans seem a little more subdued and less enthusiastic, likely a combination of the caliber of opponent, the late Friday kickoff and the lost expectations of what could have been a promising season after USC beat LSU in the opener.
