This is our last episode of the year on the Roundtable, so goodbye to 2024! In this special year-end episode, Remy covered the latest theme park updates, which included a rundown of the many refurbishments happening across the parks as they prepare for the new year. While Nicole's Music Notes segment didn't make it into this episode, Nicole joined us towards the end of the program to share in the festivities. Additionally, Mark McKay's Deez Notes segment was absent this time, but the spirit of the show remained as lively as ever. To make this episode extra special, the crew invited Tour Guide Ryan to host a Christmas trivia game. The competition was fierce, but in the end, our very own King Mike emerged victorious, claiming the trivia crown. Speaking of Mike, he also delivered his last segment of the year, Mike's Munchies. For this episode, we headed back to Epcot to sample some holiday snacks that truly captured the festive spirit of the season. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this cheerful send-off to 2024. From all of us here at Remy's Roundtable: The Florida Theme Park Podcast, we wish you happy holidays and a fantastic start to the new year! https://linktr.ee/remysroundtable Podcast Links to check out: https://dizneyverse.com/ https://nonewfriendspodcast.com/ https://open.spotify.com/show/4cU7xObhAgccO87Rd5poo3?si=ee8e7174483e47d6 (Nerd Archive Podcast) GoFund Link: https://gofund.me/d915e56f
In our daily struggles, holiness isn't about achieving perfection, but about cultivating a heart of devotion and surrender. It's recognizing that we are already forgiven and loved, and choosing to make ourselves available to God's purpose in each moment. Through trust and abiding, we bear His image – not by flawless behavior, but by embracing redemption and experiencing the freedom to offer our true selves, imperfections and all.
Imagine justice not as a harsh punishment, but as a healing journey of restoration. At its heart, justice is about rebuilding relationships—first with God, and then with each other. Forgiveness is the key that unlocks this transformative process. When we embrace forgiveness, we begin to understand a deeper kind of justice that isn't about retribution, but about rebuilding trust and creating wholeness. Through Christ, we are offered a remarkable gift: the freedom to live fully, not weighed down by past mistakes, but lifted up by grace and the possibility of true reconciliation.
At the heart of Christianity stands a remarkable paradox: Jesus, who shapes the world through gentleness and humility rather than force or power. His way offers us a fresh path to live as God intended, restoring broken relationships and bringing genuine peace. While this path often puts us at odds with society's usual ways of doing things, it transforms us in beautiful ways – turning our fierce passions into deep compassion for others. This isn't just about feeling sorry for people from a distance. Real compassion gets up close, crosses barriers, and actively works to remove walls between people. Unlike rigid rules that simply make demands, Jesus offers grace that reaches out to us first. This gentle approach helps us navigate between extremes – neither raging at the world nor giving up on it. In the end, following Jesus means learning to care deeply for others, just as He did. It's that simple, and that challenging.
In these divisive times, it can be easy to get swept up in the toxicity of political rhetoric and the false promise that our vote alone can bring about the change we so desperately desire. But the way of Jesus calls us to a radically different path. The Kingdom of God is here and available to us now if only we dare to embrace it. Christ did not come to accommodate our cherished assumptions, but to usher in a new and revolutionary way of being. Instead of seeking salvation through the ballot box, we must turn our gaze inward and allow the transformative power of God's love to reorient our priorities and heal the divisions in our society. This is the way forward - not through partisan politics, but through the subversive, steadfast witness of those who choose to follow in the footsteps of the one who upended the status quo.

What does a good leader look like? This year, Oasis is exploring the life of King David - a leader in the Bible who was known as "a man after God's own heart". Ultimately, David's story is one which shows us that God is overflowing with kindness and generosity, that human frailty can't derail his plans and his purposes, and that the one David's life is pointing to even in his flaws and failures, the true King, Jesus, really is enough. This week, Mike takes us through the story of David hearing about the death of Saul, posing the question for each of us "What are you leaning on?" Together, we unpack how Saul died as he lived, leaning on his spear, whilst David leans on God's promises and the community of faith, and what we can learn from these two men about where we too need to be placing our hope.

Kooks, Shaun and Thala wrap up an exciting final round of group stage games of the Rugby World Cup. There was no other place to start but Portugal's victory over Fiji. We talk about the impressive Nicolas Martins, how Mike Tadjer's kick stole the show and whether Fiji can bounce back from this loss for their quarterfinals. We then review the other Week 5 match ups. We welcome Pool D to the World Cup party after Argentina defeat Japan in an entertaining game and Samoa run England close. Shaun explains why the disallowed Samoa try wasn't controversial and Kooks reminds us all that he picked England coming out of the group stages unbeaten. We then look at how Ireland destroyed Scotland and how many of the Scotland team should be put on Fraud Watch, how France, New Zealand and Wales dealt with Italy, Uruguay and Georgia respectively. Shaun complains about how we only saw one game of George Moala in Tonga's victory over Romania. We then look back at the group stages and pick out moments and games that stood out and teams and players that disappointed. There's a lot of love for forwards that kick, the impressive performances of Tier 2 nations. Thala tells the story of watching the great Namibian prop Casper Viviers live. We then save up some slander, mostly for Scotland and Australia.

Brett is joined in Hour 1 today by Sam King who covers the Purdue Boilermakers for the Lafayette Journal and Courier! Brett asks Sam about what he thinks the expectations are for the Boilers this season, as he's not quite sure himself. With a new coach, a new quarterback, and coming off a good year last year, it's a little hard to guess what the Purdue team expects of itself. We also hear from Sam about the new Purdue quarterback Hudson Card and how he's looked so far in preseason and practices and what Sam has heard from scouts and seen personally what Hudson brings to the table. We even hear about what kind of defense we expect the Boilermakers to have with some of the players returning to that side of the field, and some new ones as well. We are also joined in the hour by TinCaps Team President Mike Nutter, ahead of what is already the last regular season home stand for the ‘Caps that kicks off tonight against the South Bend Cubs. We get Mike's thoughts on the latest iteration of the roster, some of the exciting promotions that the team is putting on for fans to wrap up the regular season, and about some of the behind-the-scenes operations involving both the team and the ballpark at Parkview Field!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The very first rum barrel bourbon aged beer and the very first sour beer made in Asheville were brewed by Mike Karnowski at Dirty Jacks several years ago. Now known as the King of Specialty, Mike has his own production brewery in Weaverville, where he brews historical, forgotten, and mythological beers. Find out if the haze brings anything to an IPA, as Monique Ruiz and Tommy Green zone out, while Jonathan Ayers and Mike Karnowski geek out. Dedicating upcoming beers to Prince, Muhammad Ali, and Albert Hoffman (the inventor of LSD) we were lucky to taste Prince in episode #0022.
