According to Mark C. Healey, Jesse Winker may be close to a deal with the Cincinnati Reds. That's certainly not the oddest thing that Reds fans have heard this offseason, and to a certain extent, reuniting with Winker would actually make a lot of sense. After two down years with the Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers, Winker resurrected his career in 2024 with stops in Washington and New York. Winker began the 2024 season with the Washington Nationals and hit .257/.374/.419 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI. The former first-round pick was then dealt to the New York Mets at the MLB trade deadline and put up a .243/.318/.365 slash line in Queens. Combined, Winker posted a .764 OPS last season and was 7-for-24 with three extra-base hits during his postseason run with the Mets. Reds Free Agency: Jesse Winker's potential return to Cincinnati has the fanbase split On the one hand, adding a power-hitter to the middle of the lineup would be a plus. The past three seasons, Winker slugged just .354, but during his five-year run in Cincinnati, Winker's slugging percentage was .504 with a 129 OPS+. Winker appeared to get back on track last season in terms of his power numbers, and the Buffalo native has always had a terrific eye at the dish. Winker was ranked in the 96th percentile last season is terms of chase rate and walk rate according to Baseball Savant. With Jonathan India now in Kansas City and Joey Votto enjoying retirement, the Reds don't have that reliable, patient hitter in the lineup who's able to draw walks and reach base with regularity. Adding a veteran like Winker whose knowledge of the strike zone is among the best in the league would undoubtedly offer an upgrade to the Reds lineup. But there's a downside to signing Winker, and that comes on the other side of the ball. Though he can play in the outfield, Winker is among the worst defenders in Major League Baseball. Last season, while splitting time as a designated hitter, Winker was worth -11 outs above average and -41 OAA for his career. For a club looking to upgrade their defense, adding Winker would seem to be a huge mistake. Whe 31-year-old also has noticeable lefty-right splits that would likely limit him to a platoon role. Last season, Winker hit just .236/.337/.337 against left-handed pitching while posting a .258/.366/.422 slash line against right-handers. Do the Reds really need another defensive liability who's also likely to sit against lefties? From a payroll standpoint, adding Winker makes sense. Few teams are likely to hand over more than a two-year deal in order to sign the longtime Reds outfielder, and the average annual value (AAV) would probably come in at less than $10 million. That's well within the scope of what the Reds could afford. There's definitely reason to believe that a reunion with Winker could work, but only if there are more moves to follow. At least Reds fans know that Winker hates Milwaukee, so he's got that going for him. Stay tuned, Reds fans. This could get interesting.

Hour 1 The Mets had a very disappointing loss last night, losing 8-0. They lost game one, 9-0. Boomer thinks they can come back tonight just like they did after the game one loss. Francisco Alvarez had a rough night in the field and at the plate, but Carlos Mendoza said he is sticking with him. Boomer said there is always tomorrow in baseball. But Gio added, ‘until there isn't'. The Mets have been resilient all year long. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and Gio was concerned when he heard Jerry say in the Warm Up Show that he thought the Dodgers would win in 6. Jerry starts with the sounds of the Mets losing to the Dodgers including the monster Ohtani HR into the upper deck. Carlos Mendoza talked about the fielding miscues in the second inning. Lindor said to stay the course, come back tonight and give everything you have. Daniel Jones talked about the injury to Andrew Thomas. Dexter Lawrence talked about playing against Saquon this weekend. Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers are both happy they have each other again. In the final segment of the hour, Peter Schwartz can't pronounce Sabrina Ionescu's name, but claimed it was the biggest shot in NY basketball history. We also took calls from Mets fans on whether Alvarez should play or not. Hour 2 The Mets need a Winker day today. It's feeling like a Winker day. We need Winker in faces. We took calls from Mets fans, one who said there was a weird vibe at the game. He said it was flat. Gio thinks the second inning changed the vibe. Lindor talked about not executing with people on base. David Ortiz talked about the cold weather in October vs the cold weather in April. In the final segment of the hour, a caller said the Mets have only had 1 big inning so far in this series with the Dodgers. Hour 3 Francisco Alvarez is mired in a slump. We need him to break out the way Pete Alonso did against the Braves and Phillies with the home runs. A caller thinks Mendoza is tempting fate with his lack of moves with Alvarez. Boomer thinks Mendoza is doing the right thing, he's being loyal to the guys who got him there. Boomer is not going to question him now against a great team like the Dodgers. Jerry returns for an update and has the sounds of Howie Rose as Max Muncy homered to make it 8-0. Carlos Mendoza talked about the Dodgers hitters not chasing. Jerry has audio of Evan Robers' Rico Brogna Mets podcast. In the final segment of the hour, we've seen the last of Mike Williams on the Jets. First Rodgers threw him under the bus, then the Jets got Davante Adams. Sabrina Ionescu had ‘the biggest shot in Liberty history' last night. Hour 4 Tonight is as much of a must win game without actually being a must win game for the Mets. The Yankees also play tonight and we still expect a sweep. A caller said the fans behind home plate have no energy and it's coming across that way on TV. We took a call from Minnesota about Jeff McNeil and it was a strange one. Boomer talked about the fragility of a locker room. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of Howie Rose as Ohtani hits a 3 run blast into the upper deck. Chris Russo talked about Tony Romo having no sense of history. Brian Daboll talked about the injury to Andrew Thomas. Aaron Rodgers was looking back at some old film on Davante Adams. The Moment of The Day: a nose spray and lozenges for ED. In the final segment of the show, a little bit of Knicks talk with the addition of Karl-Anthony Towns. Right now Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers are living together right now.

The Nats made one final trade in the closing minutes of the trade deadline on Tuesday evening. Mark (From Phoenix) & Al though begin with a player not dealt away, All-Star closer Kyle Finnegan, and react to Mike Rizzo's comments on why the right-hander stayed in Washington. The hosts layout the potential scenarios that are next for Finnegan as he is under team control in 2025. (14:00) Dylan Floro was sent to Arizona in exchange for corner infielder Andres Chaparro as their final move before the deadline. Chaparro is having a strong offensive season in AAA and might project to a future DH. Floro was signed to a one year deal in the off-season and in four months with the Nationals his WHIP was at a solid 1.05. (19:00) There were rumors online that the Nats were vying to trade for Cardinals OFer Dylan Carlson. Any truth to them? (22:00) The Nationals made four trades this month (Harvey, Thomas, Floro, and Winker) and the hosts discuss the best acquisitions made by the organization. (25:00) As for the game on Tuesday, it was the worst loss in franchise history as they lost 17-0 at the Diamondbacks. Patrick Corbin had another awful outing by allowing eleven runs in only three innings of work. (35:30) Travis Blankenhorn was called from AAA_Rochester to fill an open roster. Blankenhorn briefly played in Washington last season and is likely a place holder until Dylan Crews eventually gets promoted. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Following a two hour rain delay, the Nats crushed the Cardinals 14-3 on Saturday night. Mark (From St. Louis) & Al begin with the reports that Jesse Winker was traded to the Mets in the middle of the game and as of taping it is unclear what the compensation will be. The Nationals signed Winker in February to a minor league deal after he struggled mightily last season in Milwaukee. (11:00) James Wood had his best game yet at the plate as he doubled twice, had four hits, and reached base five times. Wood had multiple hits that had an exit velocity of over 100 MPH. (14:00) Harold Ramirez replaced Winker in the middle of the game (coincidence says Davey Martinez) and came through with a trio of hits. He is hitting .308 since joining Washington this month. (22:30) Jake Irvin had a second straight decent outing following a few clunkers before the All-Star Break. Irvin did not give up any runs until the bottom of the 6th when he gave up a 2-run HR. (27:00) The Phillies acquired Angels closer Carlos Estevez in exchange for two highly rated prospects. What is the trade market looking like for Kyle Finnegan? Learn more about your ad choices. The Nats staged a thrilling win on July 4th in D.C. as Jesse Winker's pinch-hit Solo homer lifted the home team to a 1-0 triumph over the Mets. Mark & Al marvel at Jake Irvin's best start yet as he tossed eight shutout innings and point out that he seems to be rounding into the form of an "Ace". The only blemishes on Irvin's day was the walk he issued in the 2nd and the single he allowed in the top of the 3rd. Irving ended the dominant outing by retiring 17 straight New York hitters. (14:00) Derek Law was the only reliever needed as he threw a clean top of the 9th to earn the save. Law had a dramatic entrance into the game as he rode the bullpen cart while holding an American flag. (17:00) The game was scoreless until Winker's home run in the bottom of the 8th. Winker came into to replace Harold Ramirez, who was 0 for 3 as Thursday's DH. (25:00) Joey Meneses hit cleanup in the game and then afterwards was optioned to AAA-Rochester. Meneses has been with the Nationals ever since Juan Soto was traded in early August 2022. Meneses' OPS this season is just .597 and is far lower than last year when it ended at .722. The Nats became the first team to ever lose on a pitch clock violation Saturday night in Colorado. Mark (From Denver) & Al convene after Kyle Finnegan made MLB history in an ominous way in Washington's 8-7 loss. This is not too much of a surprise as he leads all pitchers in pitch clock infractions this season and it came after the bullpen had a rough night as three relievers combined to allow four runs in the final three frames. (14:00) It was another night of poor base running as the Nats made a blunder and were thrown out three times trying to steal. The top of the 7th was particularly egregious as two runners were thrown out; thus costing the Nationals a big inning. (20:00) Jesse Winker laid down a sacrifice bunt, which of course was not popular with Al. He also was ejected a few innings later for arguing with the home plate umpire and the hosts note that Winker did not make a wise decision. (26:00) Keibert Ruiz was curiously replaced by Drew Millas after drawing a walk in the 7th. Millas made a nice defensive play later in the game and it seems like the backup catcher is getting increased playing time. (32:00) Mitchell Parker lasted six innings and gave up four runs for the first time since getting called up. The low point of his outing was a three run homer that he allowed early in the game. The Nats beat the Blue Jays 11-8 in a wild affair to capture the weekend series on a Sunday afternoon in Navy Yard after trailing 6-1 early in the game. Mark & Al have a lot to get to, but begin with Luis Garcia who had three crucial hits and knocked in four runs. Garcia homered twice in the series and is now hitting .337 so far this season. (12:00) Jesse Winker slugged a 3 run HR to put Washington ahead 7-6 in the bottom of the 4th. Winker also doubled on Sunday for his first multi hit game since April 27th. (15:00) Eddie Rosario had his biggest hit yet since joining the team as he clubbed a 2 run HR to break the 8-8 tie and put the Nationals up for good. Rosario's averaged is now .117 and raised 34 points over the weekend series. (22:00) Davey Martinez used six relievers on Sunday as the team finally have an off day coming up. The final seven outs came from the trusty duo of Hunter Harvey and Kyle Finnegan. (25:00) MacKenzie Gore only lasted three innings and committed one of the three errors charged to the team. Gore needed 76 pitches to get his nine outs as he gave up six runs, including a grand slam to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (33:00) The Orioles come to D.C. on Tuesday for a quick two game series. Baltimore has the AL's best record and the Nats will have another opportunity to get back over .500. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The Nats lost 6-2 on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium as Mookie Betts went 5 for 5 against Patrick Corbin and the bullpen. Mark (From LA) & Al discuss Corbin starting the season at 0-3 as he gave up nine hits and five runs in 6.1 IP. This leads to a discussion on the chances of Corbin losing his rotation spot at some point during the season. (10:30) The only runs Washington scored came off of Jesse Winker's 2 run HR. Winker is currently 3rd in the NL in OPS, only trailing Betts and Atlanta's Marcell Ozuna. He also leads all of MLB in On Base Percentage (.500). Winker has struggled the past few seasons, but in 2021 he hit .305 /w a OPS of .949. (18:45) Joey Meneses was not in the lineup for another day. Meneses has struggled so far this season as he is hitting .204 w/ an OPS of .522. (20:30) Jacob Young started again and stole a base. He is a startling 19 for 19 on stolen bases to begin his career. (27:00) The Nationals announced on Tuesday the members of the 2019 World Series roster who will be part of the festivities at this weekend's 5th Anniversary celebration with the Astros in town. The Nats lost 2-1 in Oakland on Friday evening in 10 innings of play. Mark (Live from Oakland Coliseum) & Al begin by noting that this is the final season in this particular stadium as the team will temporarily relocate to Sacramento next year, before ultimately settling in Las Vegas. (04:40) Jake Irvin only allowed a solo homer in 6 IP on just 74 pitches for his best start of the season thus far. (08:00) Jesse Winker went 4 for 4 and was the lone source of offense as he clubbed a solo homer to tie up the game in the top of the 9th. Winker was signed to a minor league deal, but so far has been the team's best outfielder. (15:00) Trey Lipscomb made a base running error to begin the top of the 10th thus nullifying the ghost runner. (21:30) Keibert Ruiz missed another game due to illness (flu like symptoms) as Riley Adams starting behind the plate on Friday night. Drew Millas was called up on for Wednesday in San Francisco, but was sent back down afterwards because it was originally thought that Ruiz would be ready for the opener in Oakland. (24:00) Prior to the game Davey Martinez gave an update on Josiah Gray, that he has full range of motion and will start rehabbing soon. Mark adds who who might possibly take Gray's spot in the rotation when the Nationals play at Dodger Stadium in a few days. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
