Remember when Geordi re-created Leah Brahms on the holodeck -- well this time he uses the Holodeck right! It's an exciting return …. Wait, was this the same show that just had Deana Troi on wires? Geordi and his ex commander Susanna Leitjen return to a past mission where fellow mission-eers are beginning to go missing. The only two left are Geordi and Susanna, and Susanna is strangely compelled to return to the planet where five years ago their team was infected or maybe even cursed! Susanna's compulsion turns to obsession as she turns alien! Luckily the Enterprise “Houses” the ex head of Starfleet Medical: Doctor Bevahlee Crushah! (Did you see what I did with “Houses”? 'Cause she's like on a medical show, like  "House"! Did you Dave, did you? O. R. you missing it -- Get it Dave “O.R.” Like in the Operating Room?) Bev get's her orange head in the game and figures Susanna is host to a parasite that is turning her into a mother-flipping alien, and guess who's next -- that's right: the ex-host of Jeopardy: Geordi La Forge! Geordie is in a race against time to figure out how they got infected and for some reason he won't ask for anyone's help, including his best pal Data! Geordi re-creates their original encounter on the holodeck as he starts going alien himself! Will Geordi be able to figure out how not to evolve into an invisible alien? Will they lock the shuttle bay doors, so people can't escape back down to the planet? Will the power of love conquer all, even alien parasites? Or maybe just the power of old friends, dear, dear old friends!  All this and whatever in this exciting episode of ST:TNGEEZ! The Enterprise D is playing host to a special guest. Why, it's Leah Brahms, the engineer who created the engines that drive our favorite Galaxy Class vessel! Remember when Geordi created a hologram of her to help the ship escape a booby trap in the episode “Booby Trap”? Remember how cringey that got? Yeah, this is a whole lot worse as Geordi never bothered to delete his browser history. And while Geordi is in the midst of the Cringiest Moment of His Life, Jean-Luc is busy playing surrogate mom to a space pasta after he ignores Worf's advice and ends up killing its mom. Smooth move, ExLax! Now a giant space kid is using the Enterprise as a Galaxy Class nipple! (Picard: That's Captain ExLax, if you please!) Will Geordi be able to salvage his relationship with Leah and his reputation? Will Jean-Luc be able to wean the child off of his ship? Will Leah Brahms waste her whole visit in HR doing paperwork? Hoo boy, this one's a doozy. Kate keeps us laughing and loathing nearly everything Geordi LaForge does and says in this episode. Dr. Leah Brahms returns as her not-holodeck self and Geordi tries to date her at every turn. The problem is not that Dr. Brahms is married, which takes a Jeffries tube conversation to get that factoid out there, but that Geordi violates nearly every privacy law we have. This may be the first acknowledgement the franchise makes that the holodeck can be used for sexy times, and it doesn't get better from there. RIGHT?! Of course it does, and before you know it, the Enterprise crew is in grave danger. Geordi is tasked with escaping the snare, and decides that the best way to find a solution is in the Holodeck with a recreation of Dr. Leah Brahms, one of the original architects of the Enterprise's warp engine.

"Booby Trap."   "Booby Trap" is a season three episode of The Next Generation that is probably best-known for showing Geordi La Forge falling in love with a holographic version of engineer Leah Brahms. However, there's a lot more going on in this episode that can lead to conversations about war's long-lasting effects, how to solve an engineering problem, when people are needed instead of computers, and much more. In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Joe Keegan and Justin Oser are joined by guest Shoaib Mirza, Associate Producer of The Edge, to talk about the season three episode of The Next Generation, "Booby Trap." The discussion includes Geordi's love life, an ancient war, Picard's childhood hobbies, and the human element in problem-solving. Daniel, Darren, and Phillip comb through all 26 episodes in the "Earl Grey Supreme Court" to determine which episodes should be considered the Trek.fm essential episodes. The question of "essential-ness" is often tied to continuity in the Trek universe, but this episode brings up the difficult question of continuity in the Trek.fm universe. Join Earl Grey as they eagerly debate if the Great and Powerful Kevin will remain so great and powerful, whether the Leah Brahms storyline must remain in Next Gen, and if anyone actually remembers the episode "The Vengeance Factor." The third season of TNG is generally considered to have many of the most-watched episodes, but which stories will make the cut? Let us know if you agree with Earl Grey's essential episodes of season three.  ----- CHAPTERS Episodes (00:02:26) Evolution (No) The Ensigns of Command (Yes) The Survivors (No) Who Watches the Watchers (Yes) The Bonding (Yes) Booby Trop (Yes) The Enemy (Yes) The Price (Yes)  (00:28:31) The Vengeance Factor (No) The Defector (No) The Hunted (No) The High Ground (No) Deja Q (Yes) A Matter of Perspective (No) Yesterdays Enterprise (Yes) The Offspring (Yes) Sins of the Father (Yes) Allegiance (No) Captains Holiday (Yes) Tin Man (No) Hollow Pursuits (Yes) The Most Toys (No) Sarek (Yes) Menage a Troi (Yes) Transfigurations (No) The Best of Both World (Yes) 15 Yes / 11 No (57%) Final Thoughts (01:03:44) HOSTS Daniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren Moser PRODUCTION Darren Moser (Editor and Producer) C Bryan Jones (Executive Producer) Matthew Rushing (Executive Producer) Norman C. Women in TNG.   From the pilot "Encounter at Fairpoint," The Next Generation signaled that it wanted to update the way Star Trek would handle gender roles - it was no longer "where no man had gone before" but "where no one had gone before." The first season featured three female characters - Security Chief Tasha Yar, Counselor Deanna Troi, and Dr. Beverly Crusher. However, two of those three characters did not return in the second season. The full run of TNG and the feature films contain many female characters, both primary cast and guest stars, and created episodes that focused on women, from "The Child" to "The Perfect Mate." @FirstTimeTrek Andi VanderKolk joins Daniel, Darren, and Phillip to discuss the successes and disappointments in how women were portrayed in TNG.   Hosts Daniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren Moser   Guests Andi VanderKolk   Production Manager Richard Marquez   Content Coordinator Will Nguyen   Chapters Is TNG Better in It's Portrayal of Women?
