In this Say Yes to Holiness podcast conversation, Christina Summary has a conversation with Leah Jacobson. She discusses her journey and the new program she is managing called Catholic Women's and Gender Studies. She shares how her upbringing on a dairy farm and how her Catholic faith shaped her understanding of the natural order and the importance of women's bodies. Leah also talks about her experience in college, where she realized the differences in perspectives on gender and women's rights which led her to question the mainstream feminist movement and advocate for a Catholic feminism that aligns with the teachings of the Church. Leah founded the Guiding Star Project, a nonprofit that focuses on holistic women's health and supports women's bodies. She then explains the new Master's program in Catholic Women's and Gender Studies at the University of St. Thomas, Houston, which aims to provide a Christian anthropology and worldview in the study of gender and sexuality. The program is divided into four certificates: Catholic feminism, women's health and wellness, gender and family policy, and sexuality and gender. Leah hopes that graduates of the program will be able to speak truthfully and charitably about women's issues and contribute to the restoration of the natural order in society. That's a problem because it doesn't focus on what women are and can give, are, or their potential. Enter the Catholic Gender Studies program. Leah Jacobson, wife and mother of seven children never thought she'd be called to motherhood. Leah had been taught as a young woman that success was equal to a career. Leah met her husband and remained faithful to the teachings of the Church to being open to life. After discovering the depth and beauty of her call to motherhood, Leah realized she had been pressured into a false identity by the secular world. Leah discovered her true identity as a daughter of God. Leah speaks of Saint Catherine of Sienna's words, "Be Who God Meant You to Be and You'll Set the World on Fire." Leah encourages listeners to discover their identities in Christ and further the Kingdom of God. Leah founded the Guiiding Star Project in 2001 to support women as they transition into motherhood and uphold the sanctity of life at every stage. Leah is the author of, "Wholistic Feminism: Healing the Identity Crisis Caused by the Women's Movement."

The world continues to become more divisive and even more dismissive of the voices which deserve to be heard. Author and Catholic speaker Leah Jacobson joins us again to talk about Wholistic Feminism and Cancel Culture.
After a bit of a hiatus, we are thrilled to be back with Leah Jacobson, founder and CEO of The Guiding Star Project, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and author of Wholistic Feminism: Healing the Identity Crisis Caused by the Women's Movement. Leah lives in Central Minnesota with her husband, Josh, and seven children. Her quote comes from Edmund Burke (we think; that attribution is contested), and was painted on the wall of her high school psychology classroom: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” A couple other quotes we discuss in this episode are from St. Teresa of Calcutta: “I do not pray for success; I ask for faithfulness.” “We have the obligation to speak the truth but we don't have to convince anyone.” and St. Augustine: “The truth is like a lion. You don't have to defend it. Let it loose. It will defend itself.”Leah also mentioned the film, The Business of Birth Control. Have you ever wondered why we are so divided as women today? Then there's feminism, but it doesn't seem to be uniting us by addressing core problems we all face as women. In fact, in my experience, even conversations around the topic of what feminism is and isn't can be divisive. Maybe you feel that being a woman today comes with unrealistic expectations and a side of shame for not doing it all, not being enough, or not having it all together perfectly. You're worried you're not measuring up, and those worries are only enforced each time you compare yourself to your sister, your best friend, the mom's from your small group, the woman you sit behind at church, your neighbor, or the gal you follow on Instagram but you've never met. In today's episode, I'm sitting down with Leah Jacobson. Ten years ago, Leah founded The Guiding Star Project, care centers you can find around the nation that empower women to understand, embrace, and love their natural bodies. Today, it's her goal to spread the word about wholistic feminism - a principle that has been at the heart of The Guiding Star Project for the past decade. Leah writes about how the American women's movement has defined success in a way that keeps us always striving, but never fully arriving. Today, we're having a conversation about the history of different waves of feminism here in the US, the good and bad of the results of those waves of feminism, and how realizing and appreciating our distinctly female abilities to ovulate, gestate, and lactate can help us understand what wholistic feminism looks like in today's world - and provide the key answers to those struggles with expectations, comparison, and frankly, exhaustion, in our lives as women. If your health is taking a back seat to all of the things on your to-do list, your relationships are strained to the max, and you struggle to overcome guilt, shame, and fear, sister, this letter is for you. Topics we talked about in this episode: What wholistic feminism is and how it has shaped The Guiding Star Project for the past decade A brief overview of the different waves of feminism in American history How past waves of the feminist movements have failed us, and what grains of truth we can find in them What ovulating, gestating, and lactating reveal about our nature as women Leah's recommendations for daily practices that help you honor your feminine identity and your WHOLE health Resources you should check out after listening to this episode: Purchase a copy of “Wholistic Feminism” through Lumen Press to support The Guiding Star Project The Guiding Star Project Pope St. John Paul II's “Letter to Women” Pope St. John Paul II's “Evangelium Vitae” Pick up a copy of the new Letters to Women book today! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/letters-to-women/support
Leah believes that women facing unexpected pregnancies are not a problem to be solved. These women are a natural wonder. And they deserve healthcare that cares about them.
