The escalating trust crisis in media and its impact on public relations and brand defense strategies Roles of PR professionals in combating misinformation and disinformation to protect brands and clients The founding and mission of Alethea, a company specializing in online risk mitigation and its approach to managing digital threats How recent political and social events influence corporate brand management and the necessity for proactive digital defense strategies Why the evolution of communication strategies from traditional methods to digital platforms requires rapid and informed responses to misinformation The importance of early detection in managing online risks and the benefits of technology in identifying potential threats before they escalate Effective strategies for leveraging employee communications and internal culture to reinforce brand integrity and manage crisis communication Notable Quotes On the Reality of Digital Threats: "The reality is, and what I tell everybody is like, listen, if you're not at the table, you're on the menu. And so, welcome to our digital environment." — Lisa Kaplan [00:04:06 → 00:04:16] On the Importance of Early Detection: "Our role is to be able to identify these risks and threats early and be able to give you those insights and great recommendations for what you can actually do about it, so that you're finding stuff out when it's a level one, not a level ten." Lisa Kaplan [00:05:07 → 00:05:22] On the Evolution of Influence Operations: "What started as a government tactic is now anybody can do it situation. So we do see more than just state actors. We see these criminal groups, we see these lone individual operators." Lisa Kaplan [00:15:59 → 00:16:13] On the Role of Fact-Checking: "A fact check alone doesn't work. Oftentimes you have to... It worked in that specific instance because it was a narrative caught early that was new, and because they were able to leverage fact checkers who had a very high following to get that information out early, that the narrative was false altogether." Lisa Kaplan [00:17:13 → 00:17:34] On the Challenge of Disinformation: "Disinformation targets our fear, our anxieties, our uncertainties... And so, because I was scared, because there was an information vacuum, which is the consistent area where disinformation really thrives... I fell for it." — Lisa Kaplan [00:23:33 → 00:23:54] On the Role of Employees in Communication: "You want your employees being the one saying, yes, this is a great place to work. You don't want to be the one coming out saying, I promise this is great. Like, people aren't going to trust management on that." — Lisa Kaplan [00:28:01 → 00:28:15] On the Importance of Consistency: "My advice is always, don't flip flop. Know where you stand. If it's core to your business to say something, say something." — Lisa Kaplan [00:30:35 → 00:30:45] On the Role of Technology in Communication: "Embrace technology and know how it works... It's automating the grunt work of our jobs. It's automating. It's being able to rapidly deploy counter messaging." — Lisa Kaplan [00:46:41 → 00:46:55] On the Ethical Use of AI: "It is perfectly appropriate to use AI or an LLM to potentially play around with drafting a response. Make it the first draft. It's way faster. That's totally fine. What you also have to know, though, is that you are assuming the responsibility of whatever goes out the door." — Lisa Kaplan [00:55:29 → 00:55:49] On Building Trust: "The best thing you can do is invest in trust. It's a lot easier to protect a strong amount of trust than to try to build trust when no one trusts you." — Lisa Kaplan [00:52:14 → 00:52:24] On the Power of Conversation: "Conversation is the communicator's superpower." — Dan Nestle [00:48:33 → 00:48:56] On the Importance of LinkedIn: - "LinkedIn is a major center for especially B2B, but certainly for person-to-person contact. And in my humble opinion, it is the most solid of all business platforms and the most real, like the most authentic for business people." — Dan Nestle [00:51:02 → 00:51:32] Resources and Links Dan Nestle The Trending Communicator | Website Daniel Nestle | LinkedIn Dan Nestle | Twitter/X Lisa Kaplan Alethea - Online Risk Mitigation Technology Lisa Kaplan | LinkedIn Lisa Kaplan | Twitter/X Timestamped key moments from this episode (as generated by Fireflies.ai)
Jeannette discusses the importance of creating a culture of collaboration within large organisations, outlining eight key ways to build a collaborative culture, ranging from executive support and creating the right environment, to modelling collaborative behaviour and fostering a sense of community. KEY TAKEAWAYS Creating a culture of collaboration is crucial for maximising skills, resources, and experience within an organisation. As organisations grow larger, collaboration becomes more challenging due to scale, diversity, virtual teams, and highly skilled individuals. Eight ways to build a culture of collaboration include executive support, creating the right environment, modelling collaborative behaviour, fostering a gift culture, implementing HR practices, ensuring requisite skills, supporting a sense of community, and having the right team leaders and structure. Executive support sets the tone for collaboration throughout the organisation. HR practices should include rewarding and recognizing collaborative efforts to encourage teamwork. BEST MOMENTS "A culture of collaboration is absolutely critical because when people collaborate, then they bring their best to the team and you're able to really maximise the skills, the resources and the experience that you have." "Those are the four characteristics that make a large organisation successful, but also they're the four reasons why collaboration can be harder." "Are you demonstrating collaboration in the way that you are conducting yourself at work? So, you know, very often all eyes are on the boss." "So as organisations grow, as they get bigger, become more diverse, maybe more virtual, different offices, etc. This can become harder." A part of a leader's responsibilities is to ensure that the right people are in the right seat on the boat and rowing the same direction at the same cadence. It's a big ask of everyone. The question is what happens if the leader is not present. Does the team still function well or do they kind of fall apart? This consideration is a great indicator of culture and how it is lived out. If people do what they're told because a leader is there, they might be effective, but it's limited. If people continue to fulfill expectations when the leader is NOT there, this is an indicator of community in the work culture. When people support each other in a way that makes sense for them and the organization, it's more than doing a job, it's having a community of support in your work culture. Some ways to move forward include... 1. Engage Employees in Finding Solutions: engaging employees and not accepting "I don't know" as an answer when addressing challenges. Actively involving your team in finding solutions can lead to a more empowered and positive workplace culture. 2. Purposeful Questioning and Active Listening: the way questions are asked on employee responses and the need for active listening to improve organizational culture. Developing effective questioning abilities as leaders can lead to more productive discussions and a healthier work environment. 3. Measurement and Feedback: measuring the success of culture improvement efforts and suggested data points to gauge workplace culture, including absentee rates, engagement in troubleshooting, turnover rates, retention rates, and customer satisfaction. Understanding and acting on measurable data can guide leaders in making informed decisions to improve company culture. People want, no, need to be engaged and have a sense of belonging. This is true in their families, chosen relationships, and work environments. Bosses might have tricks to make people feel involved, but an effective leader will deploy strategies to engage people in meaningful ways. As an example, do not start a "Diversity Committee," and then ignore any recommendations or requests the committee brings forth. Not only is it not helpful, it will also give employees a very strong reason to disengage from that committee AND the culture as it has been demonstrated that their contribution is not valued. Engage employees in meaningful ways, not performative ways. This includes listening and asking questions. Then, Effective Leader, respond appropriately and accordingly to the feedback you receive. We've been around this block a few times before. The No More Leadership BS team offers insights, recommendations, and just a smidgen of storytelling to bring the idea of workplace community to life.
Healthcare is inherently risky and so as child health professionals we need to make patient safety a priority in all our actions. We need to think about safety all the time. In episode 1 of our six-part series on paediatric patient safety, we speak with Dr Peter Lachman, who develops and delivers programmes for clinical leaders in quality improvement at the Royal College of Physicians in Dublin. As Peter explains on the podcast, we healthcare professionals need to know patient safety theory - but, more importantly, we need to know how to apply it, drive improvement and create a workplace culture that fosters safe working practices. Everyone - from the most junior member of the team to the most senior paediatric clinical leader - needs to think about patient safety all day every day. A safe culture takes time to build. Shared activities such as handover, huddles and debrief can model good behaviour and benefit performance. Repeating behaviours that represent a safe culture can create a virtuous cycle which can change deeply held attitudes and beliefs, then ultimately the safe culture overall. Thank you for listening. In thinking about how to improve this, we have brought together leaders in the field to discuss challenging and thought-provoking issues around keeping our children safe in healthcare settings. We hope you will be entertained, educated, and energised to make strides in improving the safety of the children that you care for. Alex and Amy talk with Jay Wyant, who serves as chief information accessibility officer for the state of Minnesota. We talk with Jay about how state organizations can improve accessibility in technology and procurement as well as best practices within the state to be more inclusive.See full transcript in transcript tab on Buzzsprout at https://www.buzzsprout.com/704052/13443893.Episode 102 -- Jay WyantMon, Aug 21, 2023 12:50PM • 16:08SPEAKERSAlex Whitaker, Jay Wyant, Amy GlasscockAmy Glasscock 00:05Hi, and welcome to NASCIO voices where we talk all things state IT. I'm Amy Glasscock, in Lexington, Kentucky.Alex Whitaker 00:12And I'm Alex Whitaker in Washington, DC. Today we're talking with Jay Wyatt, who serves as Chief Information Accessibility Officer for the State of Minnesota.Amy Glasscock 00:20About a dozen or so states have a role like this, but it's still somewhat unique. So today we're talking with Jay about what he does and what other state IT agencies can do to be more accessible. Jay, welcome to NASCIO voices, and thanks so much for joining us.Jay Wyant 00:34Thank you for having me here. I really appreciate the opportunity to have a chat with you all this morning.Alex Whitaker 00:39Yeah, Jay, welcome. So tell us about your role as Chief Information Accessibility Officer and what you do.Jay Wyant 00:46Well, I was lucky, first of all when I was hired to do the job, it was my opportunity to build a job they had not had before, so it was like, here's your job, you figure it out. And basically, my role is to work with agencies and employees to embed accessibility into the culture of the state. One of the ways we did that was by seeding agencies with digital accessibility coordinators throughout all the agencies and the IT partners and to empower them with effective sustainable policies, processes, tools and procedures to basically get everybody to own accessibility in one way or another.Alex Whitaker 01:29Got it? Yeah, that's, that's really fascinating. And so, you know, based on our sort of basic research on you, we've seen that you have a long history of working in accessibility and technology, can you tell us a little bit about your professional background, and kind of how you came to the role?Jay Wyant 01:44Sure. My career had been a very winding path, which is actually not uncommon for people with disabilities. So, after being a very passionate, but not a great teacher in high school history, I fell into creating on-demand technology training for the telecommunications industries. That was in the 1980s, the 1990s, so really, you know, the ground floor of how the internet had been developed, but I was providing training on how the building blocks of the Internet work. Then, after that, I became a marketing manager for a software startup that was kind of the precursor to cloud-based computing. Which was a lot of fun--it didn't go anywhere, but it was a lot of fun. I also became the marketing director for one of the nation's largest captioning companies. And the way I got into that was that on the side, as a volunteer I served on boards of non-profits, both local and national boards and part of my role is that I wrote a column and articles for magazines on how to make technology work, how to basically hack technology for accessibility, to kind of build my accessibility credentials by what I did on my own in addition to the work that we were doing. So, combining my technology work, and working with people to figure out how to hack things to make things work for people who are deaf, or otherwise, kind of led to where I am today.Alex Whitaker 03:25Yeah, that's, that's really fascinating and further proof that

In today's episode I sit down with a local worship leader to the Colorado area Ian Dizon. One of Seth's closest friends and fellow culture warriors, Michael Seifert joins the show again to discuss how commerce has put the culture of death on steroids and a conservative recapturing of commerce is the greatest tool to destroy the culture of death. The CEO and Founder of Public Square, Michael built a company and platform that lets pro-life and conservative Americans shop in alignment with their values. Rather than merely complaining about woke corporatism and the woke-ification of American industry, Michael's company is providing an alternative by building a new marketplace for who Hillary Clinton called “the deplorables and irredeemables.” Michael and Seth discuss the cultural marxism that brought us this culture of death and why their HATRED of meritocracy is one of the most important keys to understanding wokeism and the Left's ongoing attack on the nuclear family.
