The Hormone Genius Podcast is a must-listen for anyone interested in women's healthcare and understanding their own bodies. As an RN, I have witnessed the lack of education in women's healthcare firsthand, and this podcast has been instrumental in filling that gap. The hosts, Teresa and Jamie, are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about empowering women to be advocates for themselves.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the wealth of information it provides on topics such as hormonal health, fertility, and menstruation. The hosts bring on experts in the field who share their expertise and personal experiences, making the content relatable and accessible. I have learned so much about my own body and how to navigate issues like PCOS and endometriosis through listening to this podcast. The episodes are informative, engaging, and truly eye-opening.

Another great aspect of this podcast is its feminist perspective on women's healthcare. It challenges traditional notions that treat women's bodies as illnesses to be managed rather than celebrating them as the amazing creations they are. The hosts remind us that we deserve better healthcare and strive to empower women to take control of their own health.

In terms of drawbacks, there really aren't many. Some may find the episodes a bit lengthy, but personally I enjoy diving deep into each topic and appreciate the thoroughness with which they are covered.

In conclusion, The Hormone Genius Podcast is an essential listen for anyone interested in women's health. Whether you're a healthcare professional or simply someone looking to learn more about your own body, this podcast provides valuable information in an accessible and empowering way. I am grateful for the knowledge I have gained from listening to these episodes and highly recommend it to others.

Do you have heavy periods, feel bloated, have headaches, bad PMS, or struggle with infertility and/or fibroids? Have you ever considered that these symptoms—and many more—could be related to a hormone imbalance? Estrogen dominance is one of the most commonly misunderstood hormone issues. In this episode, we take a deep dive into what estrogen dominance actually means. We explore the critical role of your liver and gut in estrogen detoxification and how dysfunction in these systems can lead to symptoms like heavy periods, breast tenderness, anxiety, fatigue, and stubborn weight gain. You'll learn how your liver goes through a two-phase detox process to neutralize estrogen, and how the gut's microbiome—including the estrobolome—can either help or hinder that elimination process. We also unpack a lesser-known but powerful enzyme called beta-glucuronidase, which can cause estrogen that was supposed to be excreted to be reabsorbed back into the body—essentially recycling hormones and contributing to estrogen dominance. This often happens when gut health is compromised due to dysbiosis, constipation, or poor diet. Whether you're in your reproductive years, navigating perimenopause, this episode will help you better understand the physiology behind estrogen dominance and how to begin addressing it at the root. In this episode of The Hormone Genius, we sit down with Haley Yeager to explore a topic every woman deserves to understand—how charting your cycle can be a life-changing tool for health, healing, and wholeness. Contrary to popular belief, menstrual cycle charting isn't just for family planning. It's one of the most powerful insights a woman can have into her overall health. A well-charted cycle acts like a monthly report card, revealing signs of hormonal imbalances, fertility struggles, or conditions like PCOS and endometriosis. It's not just about reproduction—it's about connection with your body. We also discuss the widespread use of hormonal birth control as a catch-all solution for reproductive concerns. While the pill may manage symptoms, it often masks the real issue, delaying diagnosis and treatment. True healing begins with understanding what's actually happening in the body—and that starts with cycle awareness. Haley shares her own powerful journey. At 16, she was prescribed the pill to manage irregular periods but quickly experienced intense side effects. Unsatisfied with masking symptoms, she turned to cycle charting and, through the help of a knowledgeable OBGYN, was diagnosed with PCOS. This shift allowed her to manage her health naturally—and ultimately led to the conception of her three beautiful children.

Welcome Ginny Noce, the Women's Health RN with a masters in nutrition science & functional medicine, to The Hormone Genius Podcast. In Ginny's own words from a blog she wrote below, here is why Ginny became passionate about helping women balance their hormones! If her story speaks to you then you will NOT want to miss this episode. Ginny is a genius, really. She has an incredible amount of practical wisdom to share and free information that you can start implementing in your health journey today. It all started with a desire to: – Lose a little weight – Clear up my skin – Have regular bowel movements Back in high school, I was breaking out regularly, trying to lose ten pounds, and relying on laxatives just to go to the bathroom. That's what led me down the rabbit hole of conventional medicine, where I experienced things like: -Appointments with a gastroenterologist who told me to eat more Cheerios and take Miralax daily – Being prescribed birth control by my PCP for acne – Eating 1,200 calories a day and running 1–2 miles daily to drop weight And honestly, those things kind of worked. Yes, I lost weight—but my digestive issues got worse. My skin was only clear as long as I stayed on the pill. And overall, I just felt awful. So I stopped birth control cold turkey. That's when everything fell apart. My face broke out into full-blown, inflamed cystic acne. My cycles never regulated themselves. And I was still dependent on Miralax just to go to the bathroom. After two more years of struggling, I was finally diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and given three options: – Go back on birth control – Start spironolactone – Try a keto diet I was overwhelmed and frustrated. I didn't want to go back on medication, and I certainly didn't want to keep treating symptoms without getting to the root. I thought to myself, There has to be a better way. And it turns out—there was. That's when I discovered food as medicine. I won't get into every diet or supplement I experimented with, but from the start, I focused on real, whole foods. Slowly but surely, my symptoms began to improve. That progress ignited my deep, burning passion for nutrition and women's health. Some major turning points from there: – Reading Dr. Jolene Brighten's Beyond the Pill Learning about cycle charting through FEMM—and eventually working for them as the lead nurse in their endocrinology and fertility telehealth clinic, where I also became a certified Fertility Awareness Instructor. Diving deeper into functional medicine and root cause approaches, which led me to earn my Master's Degree in Functional Medicine and Human Nutrition from the University of Western States After years of struggling and researching endlessly, I can now say: – My skin is 99% clear, with only the occasional breakout – My digestion is solid—I haven't dealt with constipation or bloating in over two years – My cycles are regulated, my PCOS is in remission, and I was able to conceive naturally—twice (I now have 2 girls ages 4 & 1.5) Link to where you can find guides & applications to work with my team. https://www.instagram.com/thewomenshealthrn/ Get a ton of Ginny's Freebie Hormonal Health Guides here! https://thewomenshealthrn.myflodesk.com/freebie ✨MASTERING YOUR HORMONAL HEALTH

What is it that makes Ovulation Healthy? What are the health benefits of being a natural ovulator? The process of ovulation is the main hormonal and endocrine event of our reproductive system. You can thank one of our listeners who wrote into thehormonegenius@gmail.com and asked us if we had done a podcast on this very topic, ovulation as a sign of health! Many times the process of ovulation can be reduced to only the cycle as a procreative power, but really it is so much more. There is an incredible symphony that occurs with all of the hormones of the endocrine system, from our ovarian hormones, thyroid, adrenal and many more, there is an intricate and complex balance that our bodies need to keep with all of these hormones working together. Jamie & Teresa will dive into the basic health benefits of ovulation. We will dive into the benefits of estrogen and progesterone and their unique effects on different organs in our bodies. Things like estrogen and the protection to our heart, our bones, and our brains, even our muscles. The benefits of progesterone to our brains, our bones, our stress response, and inflammation. How can femtech be incorporated into natural family planning for avoiding or achieving pregnancy? Dr. Kafie was kind enough to give additional information about femtech (see below), what devices are available, what the research is behind these methods and how they can be incorporated into NFP methods formally (such as Sympto-thermal or Marquette Method) or informally. Podcast Overview: The Truth About Ultra-Processed Foods In this episode, we explore the eye-opening insights from Chris van Tulleken's book, Ultra-Processed People, revealing the hidden dangers of ultra-processed foods (UPFs). UPFs, often found in sugary snacks, ready meals, and sodas, are loaded with artificial additives, preservatives, and unrecognizable ingredients. These foods are designed to be addictive, altering brain chemistry and driving overconsumption, as evidenced by studies like Kevin Hall's 2019 trial, which showed participants eating 500 extra calories daily on a UPF diet. The result? Weight gain, mood shifts, and chronic health issues like obesity and diabetes. UPFs' dominance stems from systemic factors, including marketing, affordability, and convenience, but their health impacts are far-reaching. From ingredients like high-fructose corn syrup to artificial flavors and emulsifiers, these foods are engineered for taste and shelf life at the expense of nutrition. Tune in to learn how to identify UPFs, understand their effects, and take simple steps toward healthier, whole-food alternatives. S5 Ep. 13: Low Dose Naltrexone; Miracle Drug or Hype? Find Out Now

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 4, 2024 42:59

Teresa Kenney NP here! For many years, I have been able to see patients benefit from this medication called low dose naltrexone. But is it more hype than for real? It has been known to be a treatment for an incredible amount of conditions including; autoimmune diseases of every sort, chronic pain, PMS, infertility, pyschiatric disorders, and more. That is what it makes it seem unbelievable, a drug that can help such a wide complex of symptoms and conditions. But I am here to tell you that it may be true. We actually have decent research that proves low dose naltrexone, with its immune system modulation powers, and endorphin boosting capability, can truly treat diseases. What I love about LDN is that it is a more root cause approach than most treatments. Through its ability to help our own immune system reduce inflammation markers, and target tissues to gain cellular health, it truly can allow restoration through an underlying root cause way. Now in certain areas, we have a long way to go in terms of the research, and that includes the area of women's health, especially fertility. You can see that Dr. Phil Boyle is leading the charge in this area by following his work on YouTube. Just search his name and low dose naltrexone and he has several videos. I mention a podcast I listened to about the science of LDN and that link is here; https://open.spotify.com/episode/4o4unT9C6IezTuA7qUydfj This is a real deep dive into the science of LDN that I found very fascinating. Other resources mentioned in this podcast, are the low dose research organization, https://ldnresearchtrust.org/ which has put all of the collective research about low dose naltrexone in one spot. This podcast hopefully will give you some new insights into a drug that has been around for many years and continues to evolve, even in the area of cancer research they are finding the ability to suppress tumor growth with LDN! That doesn't mean this drug is for everyone, but it may be for you, and therefore we believe you deserve to have this information and talk to your own doctor, do your own research about LDN, and decide if looking into this treatment is the right path for healing for your individual health concerns. Again, we stress that this is not medical advice this podcast is for information only, and you should definitely discuss LDN with your doctor. Also, know that most doctors are not familiar with low dose naltrexone, and are only familiar with regular dose naltrexone which is prescribed for drug addiction, smoking addiction and weight loss. That is why it is good to be prepared with research and empower yourself to know what the differences between low dose and regular dose naltrexone are. Thanks to our sponsor Fiat Institute! Dr. Regan is passionate about other physicians knowing that it is possible to treat with alternatives to birth control, and give more holistic options for her patients. Dr. Rachel Regan is a board-certified Family Medicine physician who is currently practicing in the Dayton, OH area. She is an NFP-only physician and training to be a NaPro Medical Consultant. She graduated from Caribbean Medical University and then completed residency in 2023 through the University of Tennessee in Jackson, TN. As a Catholic physician she is passionate about teaching women about Natural Family Planning and alternatives to birth control, which eventually lead her to creating a website and blog to make information more easily available to women and couples. "I believe that there are much better alternatives to treating reproductive health problems than birth control. Not only does birth control go against many people's moral values and have a many potential side effects, but it can not be used to diagnose or treat the underlying cause of cycle irregularities and infertility. As an NFP-only physician, I wish that teaching about NFP and alternative treatment options was more widely accepted and taught within medical schools." Cervical mucus/fluid is the sign of the main event! It is the gatekeeper of your fertility as well. It is through changes in cervical fluid that your fertility opens and closes in a 5-7 day window around the main event of ovulation. The cervical fluid that tells us that ovulation is approaching has very specific properties. Cervical fluid is a hydrogel, or in other words it is mostly water, 90 to 95% water to be more precise. It contains mucin, glycoproteins, and nutrients that help sperm survive and thrive. As our hormones change, our cervical mucus changes, when the estrogen rises during ovulation our fluid becomes more watery, like raw egg whites and it becomes clear and stretchy, and very slippery. This should be an obvious sign of our bodies that we can observe when wiping front to back in the restroom daily. You can start paying attention every day when doing your regular routine by noting the sensation that you feel when you wipe front to back; was it dry, or smooth, or was it slippery? Look at the tissue next and observe whether you see mucus on the tissue; what does it look like? If you pick it up off the tissue, does it stretch more than an inch? Is it clear or cloudy? These are simple ways to be observant of the changes in your cervical fluid through the menstrual cycle. You can learn to chart these symptoms daily as well in your menstrual tracking chart! Again, the cervical fluid is a biological valve that turns on our fertility, and turns off our fertility. It opens and closes based on the hormonal messages that our cervix is receiving through the body. Estrogen in high amounts creates an increase in cervical fluid. Progesterone dries cervical fluid, therefore after ovulation most women are dry, or have very little vaginal discharge. These are just the very basics about cervical mucus, and we are teaching you today this information for the educational purpose of cycle and body awareness. If you are looking to use cervical fluid as a way to determine fertility for the purpose of either avoiding or achieving pregnancy, than you really want to learn to chart your cycles by a trained professional and scientifically validated method of charting. You can learn about different methods of charting from FACTS. https://www.factsaboutfertility.org/ or this site for FABMS; https://fabmbase.org/ or Managing Your Fertility; https://www.managingyourfertility.com/ If you want to look at beautiful pictures of cervical mucus ferning, check out this article which references the work of Dr. Pilar Vigil and the MIT researcher Dr. Katharina Ribbeck; https://www.sciencefriday.com/articles/cervical-mucus-health/ Also, thank you to this months sponsor! Today on The Hormone Genius Podcast we are talking about 3 popular supplements. N-Acetyl-Cysteine, DIM, and Myo-Inositol. We are diving into what Jamie & Teresa know and recommend in regards to what health benefits could be possible from considering one or more of these 3 supplements. Now it first is important to remember to talk to your trusted health care professional in regards to whether you personally should, or should not take these or any supplement. It is also important to remember that it is good to do your own research. For example, you can look into the database sponsored by the National Institutes of Health called Pubmed https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ and look at all the research articles that exist in regards to these supplements. If you want to have a better idea of how to choose a quality supplement consider this article by FullScript which gives some basic but good information about knowing which supplement companies make quality and responsible products, https://fullscript.com/blog/third-party-certifications. Okay, here is a simple 101 on each supplement we are discussing, but it is just the tip of the iceberg. (NAC) N-acetyl-cysteine is an essential amino acid, a precursor to glutathione, our master antioxidant, and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory rich properties. It is used as a detoxification of the liver, especially beneficial for overdoses of acetaminophen. It has been used to treat and support different lung diseases, as it is anti-inflammatory and reduces oxidative stress. It has been used to treat many other diseases, including OCD & trichotillomania, viruses, PCOS, endometriosis, and lastly because of its mucolytic properties has been used to improve quality cervical mucus in patients trying to conceive. (DIM) Diindolylmethane, a compound that comes from cruciferous vegetables, has been found potentially to benefit the modulation and support of estrogen metabolism. The evidence is growing and its use in the supplement world has been growing as well to benefit estrogen dominance, and promote better detoxification of hormones. DIM has done most of its research on stopping the growth of cancer cells, and some research is promising, but more is needed to know if DIM could be used effectively for cancer. Myo-Inositol is a natural isomer of glucose that has some powerful effects in the body. It has been studied well, and found to improve ovulation & menstrual cycles, body mass index, insulin level and cholesterol. It has been studied to prevent gestational diabetes, and also has been used to treat OCD, and other mental health disorders. But, it is most well known for its use in PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) for restoring ovulation, helping with high androgen levels, improving insulin sensitivity, and pregnancy rates. We hope you find this information empowering, and invite you to do your own thorough research and talk to your personal healthcare professional about what supplements are right for you. Also, if you have had a positive experience with one of these three nutrients, please share your story at thehormonegenius@gmail.com! Like many areas of the woman's body and her health, there has been a lack of education and support to women. This is true of women going through the transition to stopping their menstrual cycles for good. The good news is more noise is being made about this topic, and we want to join the conversion on The Hormone Genius podcast today and dive into the questions you have about perimenopause and menopause. Jamie and Teresa will discuss this particular transition towards ovarian quiescence; including the common symptoms of perimenopause to menopause, and the options for treatment. Jamie & Teresa will review some of the questions you sent in for us to answer on this particular episode, including themes around weight gain and menopause mood symptoms, hormone therapy, and so much more! One of the most common concerns is whether women should take hormone replacement therapy. This has been a controversial issue for sure, but we will give you a renewed sense of hope in this area of women's health. The great news is that hormones can continue to help womens bodies through menopause and beyond. Hormones have benefits to our quality of life as women, but they also have health and longevity benefits as well. We will take a look at all of these options and also help you focus on becoming the best version of yourself at 45, at 55, 65 and beyond, because that is what we all want is to be healthy and vital for as long as we can on this great earth. Bekah Yawn is no stranger to being on the Hormone Genius Podcast, and today, as a certified Fiat hormone coach she is going to help us understand a path forward for healing & answers after miscarriage. Many women will go through the difficult loss of a child; in fact rates for miscarriage are between 20 to 30% for women in the U.S. which is a sad statistic. One of the most difficult things about miscarriage, besides the incredible loss of human life, is that many women will never know the 'why' behind the loss. Most miscarriages are chalked up to either a genetic issue or a fluke of nature, which is not always a satisfying answer. It is true also, that no woman wants to go through a miscarriage again, so they want to know how they can prevent a miscarriage in their future. This is why we are doing this podcast today. We want to give a path forward, a proactive and positive approach for what to do after the loss of a baby. We will give practical and proactive steps to take for cycle tracking, and other areas to look into with your hormonal health, to optimize your body and fertility for a future pregnancy. If you have been tired of the "band-aid" approach to healthcare, particularly in women's health, then you will want to hear about Naprotechnology. Otherwise, referred to as Natural Procreative Technology, Napro is considered a more root cause approach to women's health care. It is designed to cooperate with the natural cycle and restore the underlying problem back to health. Naprotechnology was developed in the early 1990's by Dr. Thomas Hilgers an OB/GYN who also developed the Creighton Model System of Natural Family Planning. This charting system is the foundation of Napro and it is used by doctors, NP's and other health care professionals as a diagnostic tool to understand diagnoses like; infertility, endometriosis, PCOS, PMS, abnormal bleeding and so much more. It has been very successful for many women, especially in the area of infertility with statistics showing that it is more successful then artificial reproductive technologies to achieve pregnancy. We hope this episode of The Hormone Genius will empower you to have another tool in your toolbox, another option for taking care of your female body. Inflammation is a big word, a big human metabolic response, that yields both positives and negatives to the human body. On one hand, acute inflammation is a survival mechanism to drive the immune system to come to the aid of our body's injuries & illnessess. Inflammation is a response that literally saves our lives & heals our wounds. But, if it becomes chronic and the balance of inflammation is not brought back to homeostasis, then chronic inflammation will drive disease and break down cellular health through free radicals & oxidative stress. Inflammation is consdered the root of all disease from obesity, to arthritis, to cancer, endometriosis, autoimmune diseases, fatty liver and so many more health issues that plague the human person. Symptoms of inflammation include; digestive inflammation, food intolerances, aches & pains, fatigue, skin rashes & allergies, and many more. Jamie has been working with her FIAT Hormone Health Coaches on the root of inflammation in the GUT, and she is leading us today in this great discussion about what we can do to help keep the balance in our own body's and drive out inflammation that is chronic and unwanted. We will look at the GUT as a primary source and driver of inflammation since the gut through intestinal permeability (leaky gut) leads to inflammation. Today we will hear a story of perinatal depression from our guest Amanda Dailey. This story is difficult to hear and may be triggering for some who have had depression during pregnancy and also post partum. Amanda is sharing her story to "shine a light in the darkness." The good news is that is is full of hope and healing as well! So be ready to go on a journey with Amanda as she shares her difficult experiences related to her last pregnancy and severe mental health issues. Did you know that about 11% of women will have perinatal depression (depression or other mental health issues during pregnancy). This is important to know and for women to understand that they are not alone when suffering with depression during pregnancy. Risk factors for depression or other mental health issues in pregnancy include: A history of depressive, bipolar, or anxiety disorders A family history of depressive disorders or perinatal disorders An unplanned or teenage pregnancy A multiple birth A difficult or traumatic pregnancy or birth An ongoing health problem with the baby A lack of social support with low socioeconomic status and financial difficulties (https://www.ccjm.org/content/87/5/273) Untreated depression during the postpartum period also has repercussions for both the mother and her baby. For the mother, it can lead to intense sadness, marked anxiety, and a lack of interest in life and the child, often resulting in poor or absent maternal bonding with the infant. It is also associated with failure to initiate breastfeeding or a shortened duration of breastfeeding. Amanda will also give us beautiful information about a new project and organization that her family is starting The Philomena Project to give help to other mothers in this situation. In her own words" through my faith, support of family & friends, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and therapy have helped me to heal. It is not a quick fix. A Christian artist Tasha Layton once shared what someone told her: “Depression is just the body's way of saying something needs to change.” Depression was just one of the symptoms to my underlying nutrient deficiencies in my body. It took over a year and half to discover this, but listening to my gut - the answers are in my body - proved to save my life and lead me to a truth path of healing." Here are some helpful resources that Amanda has put together for mom's who may be interested in this topic and getting more help: - Netflix documentary called Untold: Breaking Point, detailing tennis player Marty Fish's battle with mental health, https://www.netflix.com/title/81026434 - Artist NF (Nathan Feuerstein), has some great songs specifically about OCD - A playlist on Spotify I have created over my 2+ year healing journey: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2EZjNM6EBMMPyOOLcTAInI?si=e5ca97f2dc134ae9 - Dr. Walsh's book, Nutrient Power - Mensah Medical, https://www.mensahmedical.com - Walsh Research Institute, https://www.walshinstitute.org - Podcast, Eat for Life, https://eatfor.life" Opinions, statements, and beliefs of our interviewees are not necessarily a reflection of the HG podcast's beliefs and opinions as a whole. Fibroids affect over 26 million women in the U.S. and by the time a woman is 50, over 70% of white females, and 84% of black females will have one! More than half of these 26 million women will experience associated symptoms with having fibroids in the uterus, causing disruption in quality of life and healthcare costs as well. Today Jamie & Teresa will look into what fibroids are, and how would you know that you have one? What things do you need to consider in the management of fibroid tumors? The good news is, first of all, they are always benign and not cancerous, but they do sometimes take medical and surgical management and a woman may need to decide which options are best for her. Polyps are an overgrowth of endometrial stroma cells that grow within the uterine cavity. They affect about 10% of all women and can happen throughout the reproductive life of a woman, but their peak incidence is from 40 to 50 year of age. They are mostly benign, but in rare cases can be precancerous growths. They are often identified due to the abnormal bleeding they cause for women. About 29% of the time can spontaneously regress, but many times have to be removed through a simple surgical procedure called a polypectomy. We cannot fully go through all the options for surgical management because we are not doctors on the hormone genius podcast, but Jamie will ask nurse practitioner Teresa Kenney to help us go through the basics of this women's health issue and have a good overview of what to expect in having this condition One question that Teresa did not know the answer to during the recording of this podcast, but then found out later, is whether she has a fibroid. Interestingly, Teresa looked at a recent ultrasound and found out that she does! It is small and it doesn't have any impact on her health, but it was something that she was unaware of until she took a deep dive into the issue of fibroids on the Hormone Genius Podcast. S4 Ep. 16: The Importance of Sleep for Your Health

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 24, 2024 34:02

Here is why we are doing a Hormone Genius Podcast solely on the benefits of sleep for your health! The reasons are numerous but some of the most important are: -Improved immune system -Improved hormone regulation -Decreased stress -Improved emotional stability -Brain detoxification -Improved daytime energy, mind clarity, and daily performance -Reduced chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease & obesity Sleep at many points in life has been hard for us to attain; think college, having babies, working shift jobs, or just trying to fit too much in during the day. According to the CDC: 70 million Americans have chronic sleep problems (CDC, 2017). 1 in 3 U.S. adults regularly don't get enough sleep (CDC, 2016). Insufficient sleep is experienced by about 30% of the general population that's over the age of 18 (CDC, 2018). 48% of Americans report snoring during the night (ASA, 2021). 88% of American adults reportedly lose sleep due to binge-watching (American Academy of Sleep Medicine, 2019). If you are between the ages of 18 to 65 you need on average 7 to 9 hours asleep. Best Tips to get the needed 7 to 9 hours of sleep: -Get up at the same time every day. -Within the first 2 hours expose your skin to 20 minutes of sunlight, and try a second time during the day to get another 20 minutes of sunlight on your skin. -Avoid caffeine after the early morning, or at least 8 to 10 hours before sleep. -Avoid napping during the day, and if you must keep it to 45 minutes or less. -Avoid bright lights after 8 to 10 pm, especially artificial lighting, all digital/screen lights ( get blue blocker glasses if you must use screens). -Keep your room as dim/dark as possible during bedtime hours. -Keep your room 1 to 3 degrees cooler while sleeping -For those who struggle with anxiety, or trouble falling asleep, consider adding 200 to 400 mg of magnesium glycinate, and/or 3 to 5 mg of melatonin, and/or 200 mg L-theanine 20 minutes before sleep. We cannot stress how important sleep is, the closer you get to 9 hours a night, the more you erase years of lack of sleep and its toll on your health. You cannot continue to rationalize that you must get up at 5 AM for working out, for meditation/prayer/quiet time, or any other reason if you do not get a full night's sleep. In the end, you will suffer the effects of lack of sleep and you will not make the progress you want to make.
