Bethany Children's Health Center is a private, nonprofit pediatric hospital and rehabilitation center in Bethany, Oklahoma, west of Oklahoma City. It specializes in caring for children with serious medical conditions, disabilities, injuries, and complex rehabilitation needs.What makes it unusual is that it is the only inpatient pediatric rehabilitation facility in Oklahoma.It began in 1898 as an orphanage, founded by Mattie Mallory. It evolved over more than a century into a specialized children's hospital and was known for many years as The Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital. Co-founder Lynn Thogersen recalls the early years of the center which was previously called Feminist Women’s Health Center which began with a $250 dollar loan from her mother. Executive Director Kwajelyn Jackson, now the executive director of the Feminist Center for Reproductive Liberation, talks about navigating thru the pandemic, Georgia's restrictive abortion ban and current funding challenges. Plus, it's called The Okra Project, a Black trans led mutual aid nonprofit, helping Black trans people in areas such as healthcare and safe housing. Advocacy groups also report disproportionate acts of discrimination and incarceration against the trans community, especially Black trans individuals. That's where The Okra Project is stepping in to offer support to the Black trans community. Chemical exposures in the womb can lead to what biologists call organizational effects - that is, impacts on the developing child that are irreversible. How were developmental problems associated with chemical exposures during pregnancy first discovered? And how did these discoveries influence policy? With me to discuss chemicals and child development is Tracey Woodruff. Tracey is a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at Stanford University, where she co-leads the UCSF/Stanford Environmental Research and Translation for Health Center. She is an expert on environmental pollution exposures and impacts on health, with a focus on pregnancy, infancy and childhood, and health equity. Tracey was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in recognition of her pioneering work advancing environmental health and reproductive justice.

“I have all these learned behaviors, and … was seeing them play out in my own family, with my own children, and thinking about the generational transference of hurt and wounds and wanting to do what I could to minimize that.” – Carrie Levine Certified nurse-midwife and functional medicine practitioner Carrie Levine has had a lifelong interest in deep exploration. She completed the Hoffman Process in 2024, having learned about patterns years earlier from reading Bob Hoffman’s book, No One Is to Blame. She truly understood Bob Hoffman’s realization that “No one is to blame.” Self-described as weird when young, Carrie explored a variety of unusual passions as a teen, including challenging activities in nature. In early adulthood, Carrie led women through outdoor experiential educational adventures, guiding them to become skilled and empowered in a variety of settings. Later, as she embarked on a new career in medicine, Carrie drew parallels between supporting women in nature and supporting them in the labor room. She found the skills and presence she’d gained earlier also empowered women during childbirth. Sharing her journey, Carrie highlights how she came to learn about herself. She is clear that she must be aligned with her Spiritual Self and reflects on how she doesn’t do well when she isn’t aligned. She now counsels her patients that optimal health can only come when we are aligned with our core self. Carrie refers many women to the Hoffman Process. She sees that women, especially parents, need to step away from their everyday lives to do deep healing work.
