On today's podcast I chatted with Paul Niland, journalist and CEO / Founder of Lifeline Ukraine, the national suicide prevention resource for the country. This is the third year in succession that I have chatted with Paul from his apartment in Kyiv as he and fellow Ukrainians prepare for another war time Christmas and the prospect of yet another year of this brutal war. Even though Paul is experiencing the effects of the relentless stress of living through a war, he says the mood there is one of resolute resistance, Ukraine will not capitulate and he is confident that victory will come. We spoke about daily life in Kyiv, the possible difference that Trump may make, how people end up being hardened by war and we even spoke about Christmas trees. This is my last podcast of 2024, I'd like to thank all of my guests this year and I'd like to thank you, my listeners. Have a wonderful, peaceful Christmas and let's hope that Paul and his fellow Ukrainians will experience this too, sooner rather than later. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ukraine needs all of the help that it can get to defeat Putin and in the meantime we need to support all of the Ukranians who are living in Ireland and elsewhere, during their ongoing nightmare. Vele honderden miljarden euros. After 150 days of Putin's pointless, brutal war in Ukraine, Paul Niland, who has been living in Kyiv for nearly 20 years, gives us his perspectives of life in a war zone and his deep insights about what has happened and how it is likely to end.  He met Taoiseach, Micheál Martin on his recent trip to Ukraine and explained how the Russian brutality witnessed in some towns is the norm and not the exception. He doesn't talk about fear. he talks about anger and resolve. He doesn't talk about the war ending, he talks about victory for Ukraine. After 150 days it is easy to lose focus - we must keep listening, learning and understanding. Enjoy the show!  Paul is the CEO of Lifeline Ukraine, a national suicide helpline service, founded initially to provide support to victims of war. This show has been brought to you by Fuzion Communications, a Marketing, PR, Graphic Design and Digital Marketing Agency in Ireland with offices in Dublin and Cork.
