David Satter is a journalist and historian with unique insights into how the deformation and repression of the past, is having terrible consequences for present day Russia. David has written extensively about Russia and the Soviet Union, especially the decline and fall of the USSR and rise of post-Soviet Russia. David Satter became the first American journalist to be expelled from Russia since the Cold War in December 2013. This was perhaps not a surprising move, given that his books have covered topics such as the FSB's role in the apartment bombings that brought Putin to power. From 1976 to 1982 David was the Moscow correspondent of the Financial Times, and then became a special correspondent on Soviet affairs for The Wall Street Journal. Dateline: Munich Security Conference, Friday–Saturday, 13–14 Feb 2026.Europe cheers Secretary of State Marco Rubio, principally because he did not harangue and berate the audience, did not hector and threaten. His tone was conciliatory, and the audience gave him an ovation. But this was a shameful spectacle of weakness and desperation. Europe revealed that it would give anything to return to ‘normal', to how things were before Trump. They revealed that they'd still rather hang off the coat tails of the U.S. than stand up and face reality. This was a spectacle of timid and fearful children, not adults or leaders. It was even more desperate, because Rubio did not bring a return to ‘normality'. His tone may have been soft, but there was no change of substance detectable, no shift in national security policy. Hiding beneath the soft fabrics of his words, lies a cold and dark truth – the U.S. intends to meddle in European democratic affairs, promote populists and disruptors. Weaken the continent, not strengthen it. Rubio came as a wolf in sheep's clothing to Munich, and European leaders and analysts duly flocked to praise him as signifying a return to normality. Normal is over and is not coming back. It's time to wake up; time to grow up and cut the umbilical cord with a U.S. that has other priorities, and other distractions. Lyuba Shipovich is Dignitas Fund Team Co-Founder, and a Ukrainian-American activist and volunteer, active member of the Ukrainian diaspora, organizer of numerous volunteer initiatives, co-founder of Razom for Ukraine, organizer and coordinator of procurement and delivery of material support and training, IT expert, one of the Dignitas Ukraine founders. As part of the Dignitas Fund leadership team, Lyuba is the driving force behind the organization's strategic direction. She helps shape its long-term vision for defense technology in Ukraine, military-tech support for Ukraine, and targeted assistance to frontline units and veterans. Before Lyuba became a Revolution of Dignity activist in 2014, in Ukraine, which became a symbol of our foundation, she worked for a long time as an IT specialist in the US, already having many years of experience as a Ukrainian tech entrepreneur. In the 2010s, she became an active member of the diaspora supporting Ukraine and helped organize volunteer initiatives abroad. The work in the diaspora marked the beginning of her path as a Ukrainian volunteer activist. The combination of technical knowledge and civic activism is the basis of Lyuba Shipovich's biography.Even before the emergence of the modern Dignitas charity in Ukraine, Lyuba was already deeply involved in volunteer networks.
