In part two of a two part podcast, Artist and Author, Sue Stolberger chats with me about her nearly 40 years living in a tent in the Ruaha National Park in East Africa. Sue says that “nature is the greatest teacher” and she shares with me so many of her experiences from that special time including Winkie the Warthog, Mr and Mrs C, Romeo the giraffe, Mrs Reedbuck and the cycle of life, her encounter with a lion, falling trees, climate change, gender equality and her wonderful life with the world renowned sculptor, her very special Rob Glen. All of these stories are captured in her beautiful book, ‘Nature Speaks' , which in many ways is as much a book about life as it is about nature. Sue has done lots, but there is lots more to come… Podcast Production by Greg Canty Greg's blog Greg on Twitter Greg on LinkedIn Email Greg with feedback or suggested guests: greg@fuzion.ie
On today's podcast I chatted with the wonderful author, artist, photographer, nature lover and sometimes life philosopher, Sue Stolberger. Sue has had the most fascinating life, with most of it spent living in a tent in the Ruaha National Park in the East African wilderness. In part 1 of this two part podcast, Sue chats about her early magical idyllic life in Tanzania, her love of painting, living hand to mouth for four years in Italy, and then finally returning to Tanzania and purchasing a jeep with the proceeds of an exhibition of her work. After spending some time exploring and painting in different locations at weekends, she met and fell in love with sculptor Rob Glen after a few twists and turns. A good turn to a stranger in need, resulted in a permit to live and work in Ruaha National Park, where they were the only people permitted to be there. Sue remembers a safari visit there when she was young, and feeling that her heart was going to burst with happiness. Let's hear the story that brought her there... By DJ Robbie Duncan This week's ElecSoul 233 flows deep into soulful frequencies and boundary-pushing grooves, merging vintage soul with contemporary electronic finesse. We open with the masterful touch of Reel People featuring Dyanna Fearon, bringing that rich UK soul flavour on Back 2 Base, before drifting into Scrimshire's emotionally stirring Reflection, blessed by the delicate voice of Daudi Matsiko. Digging into crate classics, I've included a vintage Soul gem from The Fascinations, keeping things timeless, before we twist into garage-influenced deep house with a lush Brian Tappert rework of Kano's Can't Hold Back. Fresh soulful house vibes follow with Pau Roca & Laura Elle's Your Energy, lifted by a percussive, Latin-tinged remix from Karmasound & Less J. Timothée Milton, Mona Lee, and Sebb Junior then drop As Soon As – warm, uplifting and straight to the dancefloor. For the heads, Chaos In The CBD serve that hazy late-night groove with Marlboro Sounds, followed by a stand-out soulful stepper from Justnique – Look At Me Now. Things get deeper still with Thin Ice from Foil Somah, taking us into cinematic territory. Closing out the mix is a message in the music: Fuzion & Arnold Jarvis deliver Change (What We Need), with the Temple Movement Club Mix providing the perfect finale – house with heart, soul, and purpose. Let me know what ya think! Full tracklist available at djrobbieduncan.com/elecsoul – just click on Show 233. #ElecSoul #RobbieDuncan #SoulfulHouse #DeepHouse #ElectronicJazz #StroudSound
On today's podcast I chatted with Liam Mullane, the musician turned Mercedes-Benz General Manager. Liam's passion is music, and despite his very best efforts he realised that the life of a musician playing original material was not going to sustain him and he had to choose a different path. With a new focus this talented lead guitarist became a leading salesman, and after 22 years in the motor trade he is now the General Manager of Mercedes-Benz in Cork. He chatted about his career path, the ups and downs, the buzz of being a successful salesman, how to close a sale, the special role of cars in our lives, QTR and why the music never ever stops! On today's podcast I had the pleasure of learning some of life's lessons from a very wise man, Kevin Fahey, CEO and Founder of Peer to Peer coaching company, Essence of Leadership. Kevin came from a family farm in Tipperary, he went into the Irish clothing manufacturing industry and after a board room battle he found himself at home, unemployed. Never a man to stand still Kevin started off a successful training company and was once labelled a Positive Psychopath by one of his clients. Like so many other businesses the recession that followed the Celtic Tiger crash, had him once again wondering where the next few bob was going to come from. Kevin reinvented himself, and with all of his collective wisdom and experience he remodelled his business following the simple principle that often the wisdom that we are searching for actually sits within us. He explains why and how peer to peer coaching is so powerful, in particular for business owners and senior managers. As I have been very recently grappling with a big birthday number, we also chatted about ageism and moving into “wisdom”! I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did... On today's podcast I chatted with relationship crisis coach, Puya Delavar. About 10 years ago Puya was on the brink - his successful corporate career came at a huge price as his marriage and his personal health were in crisis. He had successfully played the corporate game, giving his career everything and more but realised that he was about to lose thievery thing that was most precious to him and he wanted to change. It got so bad that his own doctor recommended that he should quit his job! He studied and researched how to repair the damage and recover his relationship and this process of discovery not only led to what he calls “holistic success”, but it also led him on the path to helping other men who find themselves in the same life predicament. Puya's ‘Crisis to Connection' programme helps men to face and embrace their emotions and over twelve weeks he helps them to repair their relationships and prosper. Enjoy the show... On today's podcast I had the absolute pleasure of discussing one of my huge passions, my love of Liverpool Football Club with Liverpudlian, Josh Williams. Josh is a football analyst, a journalist, an author and a podcaster and his very focussed area of interest is the football club that I adore. Josh is from the city, he has an analytical mind and he has combined that with his passion for his club, and on his podcast and Substack account, Distance Covered he goes into the kind of clever detail that all dedicated fans love. He left his full time job as a football journalist with the Liverpool Echo to bravely follow his passion and if you want to read and listen to what he has to say you have to subscribe - it's more than worth it. As well as being a clever football analyst he is a super nice guy who seems to have this thing called life figured out! Enjoy the show.. On today's podcast I chatted to a really nice guy, Bob Grant, a clinically trained relationship expert and founder of Relationship Headquarters. For over 20 years Bob from Atlanta, Georgia, has been helping successful women to find lasting relationships with men through his very successful programmes. Bob chats about the unique challenges that these successful women have and how his programmes help them to overcome these challenges and fulfill their dreams. Men and women are very different, and a woman's “success” can cause a particular set of circumstances because of the roles we are normally programmed to have in our relationships. The 4 of Us have always been storytellers, and our latest album Crescent Nights is the latest chapter in a musical journey that began in the heart of Northern Ireland. Today we delve into Sugar Island, our autobiographical album exploring our early lives in the border town of Newry during turbulent times. Discover how fatherhood, Nashville, and family memories shaped this musical journey of childhood, checkpoints, and first loves. I also talk about how I first found my voice as a singer and how some of the family weren't impressed. Joining me is my good friend, Greg Canty, host of the WinHappy podcast. An unlikely and unexpected meeting with my cousin Mick Brennan led us to recording this podcast at the beginning of the year. Mick is a psychotherapist and counsellor among many other interests that he has. On the podcast we figured out the meaning of life, and he also chatted to me about the importance of building a solid foundation for your mental health and general well being by looking after a few basic things every day. While we chatted about well being we also spoke about the importance of being resilient and being able to cope with the normal stresses that life can throw at all of us. On today's podcast I chatted with Paul Niland, journalist and CEO / Founder of Lifeline Ukraine, the national suicide prevention resource for the country. This is the third year in succession that I have chatted with Paul from his apartment in Kyiv as he and fellow Ukrainians prepare for another war time Christmas and the prospect of yet another year of this brutal war. Even though Paul is experiencing the effects of the relentless stress of living through a war, he says the mood there is one of resolute resistance, Ukraine will not capitulate and he is confident that victory will come. We spoke about daily life in Kyiv, the possible difference that Trump may make, how people end up being hardened by war and we even spoke about Christmas trees. This is my last podcast of 2024, I'd like to thank all of my guests this year and I'd like to thank you, my listeners. Have a wonderful, peaceful Christmas and let's hope that Paul and his fellow Ukrainians will experience this too, sooner rather than later. Enjoy the show. On today's podcast I chatted with Michelle Furey, who comes from that famous Irish musical family. Michelle' s career wasn't a musical one, but one in the beauty industry which resulted in her establishing her own beauty clinic. Her life took a huge turn in 2018 when just like many others, she went to Turkey for what should have been a routine Tummy Tuck procedure. This procedure turned out to be a botched horror show of monumental proportions which has resulted in Michelle needing 21 subsequent procedures to restore her health, which has still not been fully restored, Michelle, determined to make sure that no one suffers like her has started her own cosmetic surgery company Asetica to provide safe, affordable procedures for these who need them Our conversation provides a fascinating insight into this poorly regulated industry, about who needs these procedures and what would make them take the same dangerous journey as Michelle took. As the Wild Atlantic Way celebrates 10 successful years he shares his story of how the brand was developed and how the same approach was used for other brands he worked with around the world. As The 4 of Us gear up to unveil our latest album, Crescent Nights, we're taking a trip down memory lane to revisit the records that shaped our journey to this moment. In this episode, I'm joined by my good friend and co-host, Greg Canty, host of the WinHappy podcast, to explore one of the most pivotal chapters in our story—Classified Personal, our first independently released album. This was the album where everything changed. We unplugged, slowed things down, parted ways with brother Paul, and left behind our Northern roots to start fresh in Dublin. The black suit was out, red was in, and with it came a bold new sound that redefined who we were as a band—The 4 of Us, Mark 2. We'll unpack the stories behind the songs, the shift in musical direction, and how names like Pulp and The Spice Girls found their way into an album that delves deep into the messy, beautiful world of affairs of the heart. Join us for a candid look at the creation of Classified Personal, and how it set the stage for everything that followed. Let's get into it.. Today's guest tells her love story for Ireland, the man who kindly gave her and her travel companion a lift, and the very special craft business that they have developed together. On today's podcast I chat with Sabine Lenz from Germany who tells that fascinating story, how she first met Len, bringing an old derelict ruin of a cottage back to life in a beautiful West Cork location and how they raised a family together. They also turned a craft jewellery making hobby into the hugely successful brand, Enibas, with two stores in West Cork, stockists throughout the country and a thriving online store. I am heartbroken to hear about the passing of my friend Micheál Sheridan of the Mercy Hospital Foundation. We hadn't been in touch for quite a while and despite the connected world we live in today I had never realised that he was sick. My sincere condolences to his family and friends and I hope they will take some comfort from the huge difference he made to so many when he was with us. Micheál was one of the very early guests of the Win Happy podcast and this is the recording of our conversation back in October 2018. Micheal, you total gentleman, we will miss you. Among other things she chatted about the huge role of parents, the changing media landscape, roller skating and why we should not “shrink to fit” Enjoy the show! On today's podcast I chat with Andrew Dewar the serial entrepreneur, Thetahealer and co-founder of Five Year You. Andrew, who grew up with a sister with severe autism, lived in a constant state of stress and the very worst nearly happened when she actually tried to kill him. This traumatic experience had a huge impact on his life and it is only in the last few years after much therapy that he has rediscovered the real Andrew, Inspired by his own transformation, he co-founded Five Year You, whereby people are helped to create the version of themselves that they wish to be. This conversation was very personal for both of us.
