Sekitar 422 aktivis kemanusiaan internasional dari armada Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) yang sempat ditahan militer Israel saat mencoba menerobos blokade laut di Gaza, kini telah tiba di Istanbul, Turki, setelah resmi dideportasi. Mengenakan pakaian olahraga abu-abu dan keffiyeh, kedatangan mereka disambut haru oleh keluarga dan perwakilan negara yang telah lama menunggu. Sambil mengacungkan salam dua jari dan meneriakkan yel-yel pembebasan Palestina, beberapa aktivis yang tampak mengalami cedera langsung diarahkan untuk menjalani pemeriksaan medis. Angkatan Laut Israel kembali melakukan aksi sepihak dengan menangkap puluhan aktivis global dari gerakan Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) di perairan internasional dekat Siprus, sekitar 159 mil laut dari Gaza, Palestina. Rekaman video memperlihatkan momen saat tentara Israel bersenjata lengkap menaiki kapal Alcyone dan menahan seluruh aktivis yang memilih mengangkat tangan tanpa memberikan perlawanan. Tim pelacak GSF melaporkan lebih dari 40 kapal telah disita sejak bertolak dari Marmaris, Turki. Satu jam sebelum penyergapan, Kementerian Luar Negeri Israel sempat mengeluarkan ancaman agar kapal mengubah haluan, sembari menegaskan bahwa mereka tidak akan mengizinkan pelanggaran apa pun terhadap blokade laut di Gaza. Operasi agresif ini menyusul insiden serupa pada April lalu, saat Israel mencegat 20 kapal dan menahan 175 aktivis di dekat Yunani.

Militer Israel mulai mencegat kapal-kapal aktivis yang berlayar menuju Gaza pada Senin pagi waktu setempat. Aksi ini menargetkan armada Global Sumud yang terdiri dari lebih dari 50 kapal dan berangkat dari pelabuhan Marmaris, Turki, pekan lalu.Siaran langsung menunjukkan para aktivis mengenakan jaket pelampung dan mengangkat tangan saat kapal pasukan Israel mendekat. Tak lama kemudian, pasukan Israel dengan perlengkapan taktis naik ke atas kapal dan siaran langsung terputus secara mendadak. Rekaman lain memperlihatkan speedboat militer Israel menghalau armada dan memerintahkan para aktivis pindah ke bagian depan kapal. Beberapa kapal dilaporkan berada di lepas pantai Siprus saat intersepsi terjadi.Satu jam sebelum operasi, Kementerian Luar Negeri Israel meminta para aktivis membatalkan pelayaran dan segera kembali.
