Óscar cuenta la historia de Yajnavalkya y Maitreyi. Un ejemplo claro de autoconocimiento.
First up, there has been a media frenzy around the fouls made against rising basketball star and Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark. Commentators and fans have called her fellow WNBA players bullies, jealous, and catty. But Code Switch co-host Gene Demby and Defector's Maitreyi Anantharaman say a lot of the people commenting misunderstand the WNBA. Host Brittany Luse learns what the new fans might be missing and how racism, sexism and homophobia could be fanning the flames of the latest hot takes. Maitreyi chooses the knowledge that leads to immortality over her husband's offer of money. Her philosophical ambition reveals the roots of women-led institutions in Buddhism and Jainism. “Of the two, Maitreyi was a woman who took part in philosophical discussions (brahmavadini—a philosopher like Gargi), while Katyayani's understanding was limited to womanly matters.” In his latest video column, scholar and professor of Sanskrit and Indian religions at the University of Texas at Austin, Professor Patrick Olivelle delves into the story of Yajnavalkya's two wives, Maitreyi and Katyayani.----more----Read full article here: https://theprint.in/opinion/maitreyi-from-upanishads-broke-wife-mother-mould-in-ancient-india/2151959/
Yogacharini Maitreyi explores nuances around the importance of reclaiming Tantra - India's science of liberation. Maitreyi also shares some personal stories about how she has applied Tantric principles in her own life. Yogacharini Maitreyi was born in India which was colonized by the British during her grandfather's time. For over 200 years Yoga, Ayurveda, Indian martial arts, and other arts were banned by colonial rule just like bagpipes were banned in Scotland after the uprising of 1745 and drumming was banned amongst African slaves. The school she runs, Arkaya Foundation, is dedicated to reviving the deeper dimensions of these arts and sciences which have been watered down by mainstream appropriation. Maitreyi has been sharing the depth of Yoga and Tantra for over 26 years. When she settled in Vancouver over 6 years ago she connected with the First Nations community and elders to create more awareness about their Indigenous lifestyle, values and healing.
“I believe that it is possible to be friends with any other human being…” In this talk, Maitreyi explores the unique emphasis of friendship with quotes from Sangharakshita. Two wisdom keepers have an illuminating conversation on the realities of colonization. Colonization has had an impact over many generations around the world. This conversation explores the challenges and solutions for decolonizing our own hearts, minds and bodies. Aaju Peter is a renowned Inuit lawyer and activist who has spent her life fighting for Inuit rights in Canada, Greenland and Denmark. “I was born in Greenland and colonized by the Danes, and then I moved to the Canadian Arctic, then being colonized by Southern Canada. So our history has been written by outsiders and visitors.” She says, “I realized that I had been colonized twice, and that is done. Now I am in the process of decolonizing twice. So the next journey is about how I go back to my values, beliefs, and way of being in this world. I'm in the process of that right now, which is very exciting.” Yogacharini Maitreyi was born in India which was colonized by the British during her grandfather's time. Our teacher Sangharakshita has said: "It is in friendship (maitri) that we may find the emotional equivalent of the intellectual understanding of the doctrine of ‘no self'”. The gift of these teachings can help us move beyond self-clinging into a deeper and far more mysterious connection with one another; a Greater Love. From the talk Spiritual Friendship and the Heart's Release by Maitreyi given at Taraloka Retreat Centre, 2018. *** Subscribe to our Dharmabytes podcast: On Apple Podcasts | On Spotify | On Google Podcasts Bite-sized inspiration three times every week. Host Jackie Powell sits down with Defector's Maitreyi Anantharaman to discuss what we should make of the two most recent hirings from both the Phoenix Mercury and the Chicago Sky. Maitreyi takes listeners inside why history could be repeating itself following the hiring of Nate Tibbetts, an NBA coach without any women's basketball experience. The pair also discuss the uncertainty that remains in Chicago amid the great energy that came from new head coach Teresa Weatherspoon. Also, stay tuned for an Around the Horn style game of Buy or Sell.Thumbnail Photo Credit: Left Jesse Morrison, Right: Chicago SkyLinks:The Mercury Turn To A Girl Dad To Solve Their Problems from Maitreyi Anantharamanhttps://defector.com/the-mercury-turn-to-a-girl-dad-to-solve-their-problems‘I'm coming here to stir things up': Inside Teresa Weatherspoon's intro presser as Chicago Sky head coach from Monique Newtonhttps://www.thenexthoops.com/wnba/im-coming-here-to-stir-things-up-inside-teresa-weatherspoons-intro-presser-as-chicago-sky-head-coach/Follow & Subscribe on All Podcast Platforms…

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan has big dreams. The 21-year-old gained full celebrity status with her breakout role as Devi Vishwakumar in the Mindy Kaling-produced hit Never Have I Ever. The final season just dropped on Netflix so we're revisiting our 2022 conversation with the star where host Brittany Luse gets Ramakrishnan dishing on everything from cosplay to car chases. They also talk about Ramakrishnan's wildest dream role, how to deal with haters and why she hopes this is just the beginning – for her, and for other nerdy brown girls who want to make it in Hollywood. You can follow us on Twitter @NPRItsBeenAMin and email us at ibam@npr.org.
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan never had a part-time job. She never worked retail, or had an after-school job in food service. The story of her actual first job is well known: she submitted a tape to Mindy Kaling's open casting call for the series Never Have I Ever. She beat out 15,000 other applicants for the role, and has delivered a memorable, comedic, and authentic performance over the show's last four seasons as Devi, the feisty, awkward and determined nerd—with aspirations of being popular. Devi was no stranger to making a reckless decision for the sake of good grades or chasing a boy. Avery and Maitreyi chat about how her high school experience in Mississauga, Canada, (close to where Avery is from) was very different from Devi's, the importance of having a tight inner circle to keep you grounded and her biggest lessons from Never Have I Ever as the show comes to an end. Plus, Maitreyi opens up about the difficulties of making friends as an adult, and the boundaries she's had to put up to protect herself from being used for her fame.
