The sexual assault happened in June 2021 but the incident didn't come to light for more than two years. 8th grade students in our middle schools recently had the opportunity to be interviewed by Troy community members about their learning journey. A woman calls in for Group Therapy because her family is mad at her for wanting to skip her nephew's 8th grade graduation. She doesn't think an 8th grade graduation is that big of a deal and isn't sure what she should do.

Fourteen-year-old Acie Holland III saved the lives of 20 students and their bus driver from what could've been a terrible accident. The driver was in medical distress, so the 8th grader took the wheel and was able to park the bus safely.

There are a number of Girls Sports Camps available this summer which build confidence and relationship skills. The local nonprofit Girls With GRIT has a 2024 summer sports camp program which includes soccer, track, volleyball and basketball. Nick Gaspar was a 14 year old 8th grader who became lethargic and his normally upbeat personality became withdrawn in May of 2021. He also developed a tremor in his left hand and after being taken to his pediatrician, was quite quickly transported to Boston Children's Hospital where he was diagnosed with a Mixed Germ Cell Brain Tumor. Nick's mother Jen will talk about the next 2 years of Nick's life, which originally showed promise after his tumor was completely removed during a 12 hour Craniotomy. Unfortunately in the months ahead , Nick's condition went downhill, and he passed away on May 19th of 2023.
