Today, I'm delighted to be joined on The Egg Whisperer Show by Marc Sherman of Organic Conceptions, a company he founded after a 20-year career in corporate America. The idea came after he and his wife Erin struggled with infertility, decided to adopt, and then unexpectedly found themselves pregnant. Realizing that this phenomenon occurs regularly, they decided to conduct the first-ever research project to better understand the insights, patterns, and commonalities from similar stories. They partnered with Ph.D. Kate Webster and conducted a multi-year study that uncovered 9 key emotional transitions that were common across these stories, and that are required for conception. Their program, The Journey to Parenthood & Beyond, helps couples identify, name, address, and overcome the suffering involved when struggling to conceive, resulting in healthier patients and better outcomes. I'm thrilled to host Marc Sherman, founder of Organic Conceptions to The Egg Whisperer Show. We're diving into the essential role mental health plays in fertility—whether you're trying naturally, through IVF, or IUI. Marc shares his personal story and insights on the emotional stages couples experience, and how understanding these stages can help you find balance, resilience, and even joy during this challenging time. Fertility journeys can feel all-consuming, and I was blown away by the wisdom Marc shares on today's episode, "we get to the root of our experience and give people the tools to really change the way in which they're interpreting their journey and the meaning they give it, and the life they created around it. A lot of people allow the fertility journey to consume them. And I want to tell them, 'Keep living fully, even while it may feel like you're living to try." We’ve all heard the stories. Your neighbor started the adoption process and got pregnant in the middle of the process. A cousin gave up on conception after 3 years and was pregnant within a month. Is there something internal going on that helps this happen? On this episode of Inside Reproductive Health, Griffin talks to Marc Sherman, founder of Organic Conceptions. After two unexpected pregnancies amidst a journey with infertility, he wanted to investigate this phenomenon. Teaming up with a psychologist, Organic Conceptions created an online program for couples struggling to conceive. Their program helps to reassess patient expectations and help them through their mental and emotional challenges. Today’s episode is a re-release of episode two. Missed it the first time around? Well, we’re back with a remastered version. Loved it back in the day? Re-listen and re-love it (and maybe pick up on some gems you didn’t hear when it first aired). Today’s guests are Marc Sherman and Dr. Kate Webster, creators of the revolutionary online course Organic Conceptions. This course began with Erin and Marc Sherman’s personal struggle in trying to conceive for a decade. In partnership with Dr. Webster, they created a roadmap for themselves and others to chart a course that engages and empowers couples on their path to parenthood. They share the primary goals of Organic Conceptions, the main three chapters and primary expectations that arise and the importance of surrender. Marc and Dr. Webster are really doing some amazing work with helping others achieve emotional health and insight during their process and I thank them for digging deep in their own experience to provide a ton of hope, guidance, and information for others. Takeaways: [7:48] I share the impressive backgrounds and bios of Dr. Kate Webster and Erin and Marc Sherman. [12:15] Dr. Webster covers the primary goals of Organic Conceptions, stemming out of predictable problems and patterns with infertility. She also shares what the program is not so people have appropriate expectations. [13:08] Depending on the statistics, between 1-in-6 and 1-in-8 couples struggles with infertility. [21:07] They combine influences from biological, emotional, psychological, and sociological models. [27:11] The program provides the opportunity for couples to go through the steps at their own time in their own home rather than rushing to appointments. [31:37] Every story culminated into three chapters and nine transitions: The conception of doubt, couples losing patience, and surrender into life. [24:31] Dr. Webster lists the five primary expectations that arise: age, sequencing of life events, gender roles, images of success, and trust in the medical model. [39:38] The stages in the surrender into life chapter: rawness, reaching forward and uniting together, renewal. [41:48] More than one third of women have pre-conceived doubt about their reproductive abilities before they even try get pregnant. [49:48] It’s difficult for young women today to try and fit in a career, marriage, and family goals all in one decade. [60:56] We hear the difference of mal-adaptive vs adaptive coping. [61:57] Surrendering does not mean just relaxing or giving up on a dream for parenthood. Dr. Webster and Marc share stories of couples that accept the things they cannot change, let go of past disappointment and control over the future to end up finding life again and new interests and passions. A lot of times people have success even after they are significantly older than when they first started on their journey. [74:23] Every listener gets a free PDF and a monetary discount. They are coming out with a workbook shortly as well. What we think may not always be true.” About Organic Conceptions: Organic Conceptions began with founders Erin and Marc Sherman’s personal struggle in trying to conceive for nearly a decade. In partnership with Ph.D Kate Webster they used proven scientific practices to dig deep into stories from couples like them who unexpectedly overcame infertility naturally (i.e Adopted then conceived, and other such stories). Each individual story offers insight, but when woven together, they provide a road map that can guide others on their journey. Organic Conceptions’ goal is to chart a course that educates, engages, and empowers couples on their personal path to parenthood.

Facebook Twitter Instagram The Outdoor Biz Podcast Support the show Please give us a rating and review HERE Show Notes Mark has had one job in the Outdoor Biz with Outdoor Gear Exchange and tells us how he got started, the unique evolution of the shop, and some of the great features and services they offer. First Exposure to the Outdoors I've been enjoying the outdoors since I was a kid. We used to do to a lot of camping with my parents and skiing. I was actually coming up to stowe ski regularly from my home state of New Jersey as a kid. I remember the drives very distinctly and all the things that you do with kids to keep them busy on a six hour drive. Also remember being dragged out for the first first chair every day by my dad who was indefatigable on terms of the need to ski regardless of what the weather was like. And I married someone who's just like that. I tend to be more of a fair-weather skier at this point in my life, and that's OK, I've got the skills. We also used to do an annual camping trip with my father. We do a canoe camping trip every summer for a week and it was just all part of my tradition. Things we talked about Outdoor Gear Exchange Vermont Teddy Bear Outdoor Retailer Panel- How to Thrive in the age of Amazon Nickel Bag Program Conservation Alliance Vermont Hut System Advice, tips I think getting into the outdoor business is similar to getting into any business. My advice is for people to find a business itself that you value, that you value their values, that you like the way the business runs and just get a job there, doesn't matter what it is. If you are engaged and involved in your business and you're working in an organization that has a good culture, you'll get recognized and you'll move up the ladder. Because you know, a certain portion of everybody working in the outdoor industry, businesses cycles through. You know, for a lot of people it's a stepping stone to get out of college, you want to sort of plant yourself in town, you're in for a couple of years, get a job in the outdoor shop and then move on. We've got that as a big piece of our employment. We also have many of our employees that have been with us for over five years. We now have an employee ownership program where we've got currently 12 employee owners, Joe, my initial partner and I continue to create that engagement and people want careers, they want a place to stay. They want to stay there and grow. We've been able to create positions and now have a whole department that is just managing fulfillment by Amazon. And that's a great, that's a great avenue for people who want to focus more on the technical aspects. We've also got a great ski tech department and we try to promote our ski in our bike texts to learn more skills and develop their careers. And we encourage our employees when they're ready to leave, we encourage them to move on and we give them recommendations as needed. We were not looking to be the end point in anybody's career. We want to support our employees, grow their education and when it's time for them to follow their next passion within the industry, we want to support that so it gives us room to move people up who are in a lower area organization who do want those careers as well. So it's good, very positive cycle.
