Boston-bred singer-songwriter Will Dailey has a new record out called BOYS TALKING. Well, it's not “out” out. As in: It's not streaming on all the usual platforms — which means it's not available to be randomly and conveniently ignored. If you want to get Will's new record, all you have to do is… 1. Get out of the house. 2. Go to a club that's hosting one of his live performances. 3. Look him in the eye and purchase it from him. Simple, right? But in this world of complacent digital bubbles, this basic act of human connection feels like a clarion call of spiritual rebellion. And we at the LIFERS podcast are here for it. Join us for a deep (deep) conversation with Will about art, music, commerce, and being fucking ALIVE!!! Also: Gabe forgets that he already showered for the day.

Brilliant American singer / songwriter Will Dailey is easily one of the best interviews We Talk Music has conducted in 2023. Philosophical, thoughtful, and incredibly well spoken, Will Dailey doesn't just give the standard answers to questions, he absorbs what you ask and returns it in kind. This though is no surprise to anyone familiar with his art, as he approaches it with the same care, working hard at his job to create a special moment for listeners of his music. No better example of this attitude exists than his current project, an ingenious idea that showcases his innovative, unique mind and style. It's called the $10 Song, and it's a chance for each individual who listens to the the tune to have their own experience that will never be repeated or forgotten when they listen to the aptly titled “Cover of Clouds”. As described on his own website, every night it will be waiting on the merch table, in an antique discman with a pair of headphones waiting for you. Anyone at the show can come to the merch table and offer whatever you like ($10 or 10 cents) and take the discman, headphones and listen for 15 minutes, before or after the show. This will be the only place and time to hear it. So check out this podcast to learn more about the song, the idea, and the man. You definitely won't regret it. You may not be fortunate enough to catch Will Dailey on this limited 18 city tour, but you do have a chance to take a peek inside his mind, and that's a trip worth taking. Jared Bowen filled in for Jim Braude at the Boston Public Library. Turns out Jim was too busy taking photos of Trump supporters outside of Mar-A-Lago. Last night the news broke about Trump's indictment by a Manhattan grand jury. We started the show by hearing from former federal judge Nancy Gertner with her reactions and legal analysis. Then we opened the phone lines to hear from listeners. What were their reactions to the news, and what does the indictment mean for next year's presidential election? Sue O'Connell discussed the transphobia surrounding the Tennessee mass shooting. On the lighter side, she celebrated the one-year anniversary of Wordle, and ancient artifacts that may or may not be sex toys. Corby Kummer joined to discuss the James Beard Award nominees, a meatball made from mammoth DNA and the state of food insecurity in Massachusetts. Journalist Andrea Bernstein from WNYC and co-host of the Peabody winning podcast Trump, Inc. joined to discuss Trump's indictment. Will Dailey, a local singer/songwriter, joined for Live Music Friday. He performed two songs and spoke to Margery and Jared about his new podcast called Sound of Our Town.

About a year ago we had the great opportunity to speak with Baseball Writer’s hall of famer and longtime musician Mr. Peter Gammons at his annual event celebrating the Peter Gammons College Scholarship.  This scholarship, which allows Boston and Chicago area high school students a cash scholarship to the college of their choice has sent 150 Boston and Chicago area students to college by awarding them over $600,000 in scholarships. But this wonderful foundation is only one piece of the puzzle – just one beneficiary of many in Boston and Chicago under the umbrella of the Foundation To Be Named Later. After Theo Epstein became the general manager of the Red Sox in 2002, being a guitar player himself, Peter Gammons asked Theo to join him onstage for the next Hot Stove event. And so the Foundation to be named later was born. The foundation – now celebrating its 20thyear, is dedicated to improving lives through education and leadership and works to raise funds and awareness for nonprofit agencies serving urban youth and families.  Funds would be raised through unique events focused on baseball and music, two of the twins’ passions. This years events begin February 7th.  Get more info and purchase tickets at www.foundationtobenamedlater.org.Business of Baseball Lunch – DEVELOPING PITCHING IN AN OFFENSIVE ERA presented by GIVING Grousbeck FazzalariFebruary 7th — Seaport Hotel, 1 Seaport Lane Boston – 11:30 am – 1:30 pm Includes reception, lunch, panel with Q&AModerators: Peter Gammons, Alex SpeierPanelists:Tom Verducci, Analyst, MLB Network; Craig Breslow, Director of Pitching, Chicago Cubs; Rich Hill, Pitcher, Minnesota Twins; Aaron Civale, pitcher, Cleveland Indians; David Bush, Pitching Coach, Boston Red Sox; Matt Blake, Pitching Coach, New York Yankees; Ryan Dempster, Former Major League Pitcher and MLB Network AnalystVIP TICKET: Hot Stove Cool Music 20th Presented by GIVING Grousbeck Fazzalari – celebrating music, baseball and giving–Buy Tickets $500February 8th — Paradise Rock Club, 967 Commonwealth Ave. Boston – 5:30 pmFEATURING: Letters To Cleo and Belly’s Tanya Donelly & Gail Greenwood and are joined by Peter Gammons, Theo Epstein and the Hot Stove Cool Music All Stars, BOTO. Today on Boston Public Radio: Sue O'Connell and Joanna Weiss discussed the weekend mass shootings in Ohio and Texas and other national headlines in a political round-table. O'Connell is co-publisher of Bay Windows and South End News, and in-depth politics reporter for NECN. Weiss is editor of Experience, a magazine published by Northeastern University. WGBH News analyst Charlie Sennott looked at how America compares to other nations when it comes to gun deaths, and why mass shooters who espouse white nationalism aren't charged with domestic terrorism in the country. We opened the phone lines to hear from our listeners about where they stand on gun control. Reverends Irene Monroe and Emmett Price discussed what rural Christians heard during the Democrat presidential debates. Monroe is a syndicated religion columnist and the Boston voice for Detour’s African American Heritage Trail and a Visiting Researcher in the Religion and Conflict Transformation Program at Boston University School of Theology. Emmett is Professor of Worship, Church & Culture and Founding Executive Director of the Institute for the Study of the Black Christian Experience at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Together they host the All Rev’d Up podcast. TV guru Bob Thompson previewed the American Experiences documentary on Woodstock, and reviewed other media headlines. Thompson is founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture and a Trustee Professor of Television and Popular Culture at the Newhouse School of Public communications at Syracuse. We got an acoustic set from musician Will Dailey, who will perform a series of concerts at Fenway Park this summer.

Above The Basement - Boston Music and Conversation

Episode 125 - a conversation with Peter Gammons. As a Boston Red Sox fan living in the NY/NJ area back in the 90’s and early 2000’s, life as a Sox fan was...well...difficult. Especially after Game 7 of the ALCS when the New York Yankees walked off the Sox in 2003. But that was just the beginning of a Red Sox renaissance that eventually brought the city of Boston 4 World Series Trophies since - including the recent 2018 championship. With 11 championships since 2001 – Boston fans really have nothing to complain about when it comes to sports. But during that painful time of losing before all the winning, there were a few people we turned to for our Red Sox fix. Peter Gammons was number one on that list. So what is a world class sportswriter and analyst doing on a music podcast? Peter is also a songwriter and guitarist and has played with the likes of Eddie Vedder, Will Dailey, Buffalo Tom and many others. He also started Hot Stove, Cool Music – which is the signature fundraiser for The Foundation To Be Named Later started by Paul and Theo Epstein. But Peter is much more than just a sportswriter and musician, he is also a humanitarian who works hard for the kids in the city of Boston. We spoke with Peter at his scholarship dinner for the Peter Gammons College Scholarship in Boston and got to talk with Chief Cook and Bottle Washer, CEO and Executive Director of The Foundation to Be Named Later Allyce Najimy, Scholar Program Manager Lesly Suriel, the Foundation's founder Paul Epstein and Boston musician Will Dailey. Song List: All songs from the album Never Slow Down, Never Grow Old Song 1: Tanqueray Song 2: Come, Labor On Song 3: Model Citizen

In this day and age we all seem to crave the connection to others that seems to be missing in this environment of screens and social media. Will Dailey wants to break down that wall. And if you don’t want to climb over the remaining pieces, well he is OK with that. With his latest album Golden Walker Will wants you to turn off those distractions. To drop the needle on the album and listen. We loathe to place Will into a nice box by calling him a singer-songwriter, because somehow it is not quite so simple. What we can say about him is that he is a very thoughtful guy and we really enjoyed spending time with him to talk about that missing connection, being an indie artist and having no regrets. Song List: Song 1: Bad Behavior (Golden Walker) Song 2: He Better be Alive (Golden Walker) Song 3: Up To Your Heart (Golden Walker) Song 4: Castle of Pretending (National Throat) Live Song: It Already Would Have Not Worked Out By Now

Having the title of Director Of Good Vibes would be a daunting title for any normally pessimistic human being, but James MacDonald is an optimist. Formerly with the Life Is Good Festival, James started Festival At The Farm in Canton, MA which will take place in September and features Amos Lee, Dawes, and former ATB guests Martin Sexton, Ali McGuirk and Jesse Dee as well as one of our upcoming guests Will Dailey among many others. The music in this episode is from some of these artists. James has worked in all areas of music including artist management, but now devotes all his time to this amazing festival. But the weekend is more than just music. It is a celebration that offers locally-sourced and inspired food vendors, a farmers market, non-profits, backyard games, a craft vendor marketplace and even includes music for the kids. We also discovered that James is a wonderful guy. Song List: Song 1: Long Time (Ali McGuirk - Slow Burn) Song 2: On My Mind, In My Heart (Jesse Dee - On My Mind, In My Heart) Song 3: When It Dies (Will Dailey - Golden Walker)

Will Dailey is a versatile and award-winning musician based in Boston, Massachusetts whose latest record Golden Walker will be out on June 1st. He is deeply involved with multiple charitable organizations including Farm Aid, Foundation to Be Named Later, and Zumix as well as other local organizations. He's a husband and a father of two, and a genuinely down-to-earth, affable, and humble human being.  I met up with Will at his home and studio just outside of Boston where we had a long and compelling chat about the positive impact on the arts of affordable access to healthy food, the selfishness of making art, the difference between quitting and moving on, the consequences of trying to do everything by yourself, the automatic privilege of being a white male, that guns represent weakness and fear, and we even had time to go off on a tangent about our magical experiences of seeing Pearl Jam in concert for the first time. Meet Will.

In episode 9, we take a break from big brand CMOs to hear from independent musician Will Dailey. Why this deviation? Well first, I’ve been trying to get an interview with Will Dailey ever since I saw him speak at a Content Marketing conference in 2016 because I was certain his story would inspire marketers big and small. Second, Will really is a renegade, having walked away from a major record label just as his career was gaining steam. This was an incredibly gutsy move that helped set the stage for his instructive approach to fan building. And finally, I secretly hoped Will would perform on the show, and amazingly, he did just that, making it easy for you all to understand why I’m such a fan!
