What fun we had (Sensei Tracey, Sensei Jackie, myself and a first time guest - Sensei Richard Baier) discussing one man's adventure in China. We hope and expect that Sensei Baier will be on many times in the future. This book has so many aspects to it that we'll need two episodes to cover it all. It reminds me of when we read Living the Martial Way. If you're interested. Here's the link to the first of 3 episodes on that book:https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/8783348But back to today. One of the things that came up in conversation was the fact that Sensei Tracey's son Sam had his own adventure in China. Luckily, we interviewed him and here's a link to that interview:https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/2611630One more thing, please: if you have a couple of extra dollars - support the show using the link below that says "support the show". COBRA KAI meets FOOT FIST WAY in a delightful, hilarious, heartwarming comedy, with cool fight sequences.Inspired by Bruce Lee, life in Seattle and the legacy of kung fu and kung fu movies we get behind the team that created this instant classic. Interviewed and Edited by Ramon Youseph. The leads - Alain Uy (True Detective), Ron Yuan (Mulan) and Mykel Shannon Jenkins (Undisputed 3), three worn out middle-aged men on a kung fu mission, are outstanding; the fight scenes are tremendous and thrilling; the laughs come thick and fast and often unexpectedly - and the film is a poignant meditation on remembering former glories, and trying to recapture them.Three Kung Fu prodigies have grown into washed-up, middle-aged men, now one kick away from pulling their hamstrings. but when their master is murdered, they must juggle their dead-end jobs, dad duties, and old grudges to avenge his death.Writer director Quoc Bao Tran, making his feature debut, imbues the film with beautifully drawn characters and real emotion, and you'll be itching to see THE PAPER TIGERS get back in shape and do their thing. They're the most unlikely kung fu heroes you'll ever see, and you'll be rooting for them all the way to the end credits. Those who know me and know this channel, are familiar with my love for martial arts. I have been training for the past 10 years and during this period, I have exposed myself to various systems. I have also witness debates about what martial arts represent and unfortunately, the true essence of martial arts, which is beyond (but does include) fighting is rarely discussed. So I decided to speak to the man who is the source of my knowledge - Shifu Kanishka Sharma. Most of you know him as the first Indian to be trained at and authorized officially as a representative of the Shaolin Temple in India as well as the official mentor of the Special Forces in India. He is also the official representative of Progressive Fighting Systems and Contemporary Jeet Kune Do under Sifu Paul Vunak. He has trained and mastered 14 different martial art systems, including but not limited to, Shaolin Kung Fu (and Sanshou), Wing Chun, Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do (Under Sifu Sitta Wang as well as Sifu Vunak), Muay Chaiya, Pekiti Tirsia Kali, Balintawak and Tai Chi. I speak to him about what the purpose of martial arts truly is, the perception that Shaolin monks (and traditional martial artists) can't fight, and why no one really talks about the healing aspect of martial arts. Do let me know what you think of the show by writing to me at aadharmalhotra@gmail.com. Show Notes As we grow, form our self-identity, and dream of a future full of work we love that uses our great gifts and strengths most of us come face to face with ways that society – including peers, institutions, and groups, including our family of origin – tell us we can't or we shouldn't or aren't able to have those dreams because of who or what we are. That's especially true for girls and young women. Changes are being made of course, but restrictions still exist. And sometimes our own thoughts and beliefs feed into those restrictions. Often we spend the first portion of our lives living up to others expectations and then something happens that helps us to break free and decide to create a life that's consistent with our own beliefs and expectations. Today's guest is a great example of all of that. Jodi Harrison Lee is a Martial Arts Master, co-owner of the martial arts studio, The Martial Way in LA county California. She's also a best selling author, speaker and trainer whose core mission is helping girls and women to find an embrace their strength, exude the confidence they have deep inside, and be able to defend themselves in any situation they're in. So Listen in as Jodi and I discuss: How young girls lose their confidence and how they can regain it How we often allow the opinions of others and beliefs of society to pigeon hole us and keep us trapped in a place we weren't meant to be The how sports and athletics lead to increased confidence and courage for children and adults. How easy it is to allow societal structures to keep us playing small Tips for finding and embracing your own inner strength As always listen all the way to the end where I'll share your cocktail exercise and action step for this episode.   Guest Contract Information Jodi's website Jodi's book, Find Your Strength Connect with Jodi on Facebook Jodi on YouTube
