JP Dinnell: Develop Habits for Personal and Professional Growth and Empower Others Through Genuine Relationships

The Essential 11

Staying firm in your beliefs while respecting others' perspectives can be challenging but essential for meaningful connections. It's about understanding that conviction doesn't require imposing your views on others; you can hold onto what you believe while allowing room for differing opinions. Respecting diversity of thought often comes down to listening with an open mind and engaging in conversations with empathy, knowing that every perspective has value. JP Dinnell, a former Navy SEAL and Chief Training Officer at Echelon Front, is a seasoned leader and speaker. With a decorated combat background, including a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars, he now trains others in leadership and operational excellence. Today, JP shares his experiences balancing the demands of family, faith, and his professional responsibilities. Join in as young leaders pose inquiries about life, personal development, and beyond! Quotes: “Knowledge is not power. You can have all the knowledge in the world, but if you do nothing with it, what good is it? You have to make a choice to implement that knowledge.” – JP Dinnell “Accountability is a tool. Don't use it as a crutch.” – JP Dinnell “There is a very real spiritual battle going on right now, and men need to be equipped to identify it, handle it, fight it, and lead their families.” – JP Dinnell “As men, to be capable every single day, we have to be intentional about our growth, development, and the relationships we build around us.” – JP Dinnell “Sometimes, it also means admitting what we don't know, which I've gotten better at over the years. At least I can pass along my curiosity and say, 'I think this is important for us to know. Maybe we can all learn this together.' That's a part of leadership too.” – Matt Beaudreau Takeaways: Reflect on your personal priorities and create a clear framework to ensure you're making intentional choices that align with your values as a leader, family member, and person of faith. Examine your communication style and identify ways to make it more simple, clear, and concise to foster better understanding and buy-in from those around you. Consider how you can empower and give ownership to the people in your life, whether it's your children, team members, or community, to cultivate a culture of accountability and growth. Identify opportunities to build genuine, trust-based relationships that allow you to positively influence others, even when they may be resistant to your guidance. Explore ways to share your faith and beliefs in a bold yet compassionate manner, respecting the diverse perspectives of those around you and focusing on leading by example. Conclusion: Intentionality, empathy, and a firm commitment to personal growth are essential for creating meaningful change. By focusing on these values, individuals not only improve their own lives but also improve the communities they serve. This combination encourages deeper connections, stronger relationships, and a more supportive environment for growth. In the end, personal progress and community well-being go hand in hand, driven by purpose and compassion.

In this session, Joe emphasizes the vital role that carrying the message plays not just for the person receiving it, but for the one delivering it as well.“The healing comes from using it for a higher purpose. So it's important for him to realize that your attempt to pass this on to him plays a vital role in your own recovery. What do they mean by vital? Yeah, it sounds pretty important, doesn't it? When they talk about a vital organ, it's not like, ‘Yeah, it's not for me.' If you want to live, then you're going to have to act like you're living. You have to speak life into everyone you encounter. That's the condition. So actually, he may be helping you more than you're helping him. How many of you have learned that? Make it plain he's under no obligation to you, that you hope only that he'll try and help other alcoholics when he escapes his own difficulties.”Joe explores the importance of service, explaining that the act of helping others not only strengthens one's recovery but is essential for spiritual growth. Sharing your struggle, and what you're doing to get through it, or how you got through it is going to give people hope. People who are going through the same thing will realize that they are not alone and will have the strength to claim that it is not the end of their journey. Sharing your story won't only help people who are going through the same thing. In this episode you will learn: Why are so many young people not motivated Why is Sean so loved by everyone: his staff, his superiors and the public How to lead others with integrity and warmth Why great leaders inspire through community and not ego What are the essential qualities of a successful leader/mentor Why does a GM of a large gym clean floors Can we teach leadership or are you born with it   In this episode I talk to Sean Severson, who is by all accounts a leader, someone to look up to and learn from. He is a Senior Director at Lifetime Edina, one of the top gyms in the country…and that would entitle him to walk around like a “boss”, except - this man leads in a way that he inspires every staff member or gym member by: doing absolutely any task other staff members do from busing dishes to vacuuming and cleaning machines, interaction with members, checking on maintenance but he is ALWAYS with a smile, kind word and helpful hand. Frankly, I was astounded to watch this before I got to know him. This handsome and charismatic man, impeccably dressed in the most beautifully designed suits is also the man who vacuums the halls. He is fond of saying:  I love to teach practical ways to impact those around me and to inspire others to get out of their comfort zones and become better humans.   Links:  https://my.lifetime.life/clubs/mn/southdale.html Shawn Severson Linked in: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shawn-severson-2945a7249/

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 28, 2023 17:44

Welcome to today’s episode of The Mindset Mentor Podcast where today we are going to dive deep into how you can help yourself grow, and simultaneously empower others around you to grow as well. Here’s what I’ve gotta preface this episode with, because I get a lot of people approaching me and asking the same question around this… I find a lot of people when they first get into personal development and start working on themselves and experiencing transformation… a lot of people end up stressed out because they are trying to get others around them to want the same growth but more often than not it only ends up creating conflict in their relationships.  If you have experienced this in your own life, I need you to first ask yourself this question, “Are you trying to get someone to change who they are, or are you allowing them the space to grow into who they are meant to be?” The first 4 years of my wife and I dating, she wasn’t into personal development at all. I bought her books, I tried getting her to go to conferences, but it just wasn’t her thing. And then one day she just caught on and decided to taste what the pursuit of personal development was like. What happened is when I stopped trying to force her to change into the person I wanted her to be, I focused on being the lighthouse instead.  Your job for those around you is to nurture others and allow them to become who they want to become.  Now turn the tables… ask yourself this: “How are the people around you nurturing an environment for you to grow in?” If a flower doesn’t grow, you don’t change the flower. You change the environment. If you’ve been stuck for a while, maybe you should reassess your environment and determine if it’s actually conducive for you to grow in.  If you like this episode…  Make sure to share it with someone that needs to hear it and help us get the message out there so that together we can help make people’s lives better and make the world a better place.  And BY THE WAY: My first book that I’ve ever written is now available for pre-order. It’s called LEVEL UP and It’s a step-by-step guide to go from where you are now, to where you want to be as fast as possible.Within its pages, you'll discover powerful insights and practical steps that will revolutionize the way you approach your goals, personal motivation, and mental focus.
